World premiere for the 908 HYbrid4
A
Quality time
with the 508
Peugeot has launched an international
communication campaign for the 508,
its new large touring car.
The campaign, dubbed "Quality
Time", will be broadcast on major
national TV channels in Europe.
The new 508 embodies a new
generation of large touring cars which
offers both impressive driveability
(accurate steering and ergonomic,
high-tech controls) and a veritable feast
for the senses (thanks to sophisticated
materials, exceptional finishing, quality
lighting and acoustics).
Each journey in a Peugeot 508 should
be quality time.
It was with this in mind that Peugeot
and its agency, BETC Euro RSCG,
came up with the car's advertising
positioning: with the new Peugeot 508,
diesel hybrid version of the
new Peugeot 908 in white
livery had its world premiere
at the Geneva motor show.
It features Hybrid4 technology
which combines diesel and electric
power, two fields where Peugeot
has forged a solid reputation for
excellence.
The system employed by the 908
HYbrid4 recovers and stores the
kinetic energy generated under
braking before feeding it back into
the driveline during acceleration.
Using the recovered energy in
this way significantly improves the
efficiency of the powertrain.
The system provides a power
boost of 80hp during the seconds
that follow its redelivery.
Recovered energy (500kJ
between two braking phases) is
stored in lithium-ion batteries
before being automatically fed to
the rear wheels under acceleration
(no "push to pass" function).
It will be possible to run in
electric mode only along the pitlane, and it is this mode that
will be used for the car's
homologation.
Powered by a 3.7-litre diesel V8
HDi FAP engine with 550hp, the
new 900kg 908 HYbrid4 will have
its maiden track test at the end of
March.
Peugeot to start
operations in India
Peugeot is set to enter the Indian
market with both commercial and
industrial operations.
Initially, the French automaker will
produce a mid-sized sedan car in India.
The future production site's location
is currently under evaluation.
Peugeot operations in India will be
headed by managing director Dr Rajesh
Nellore, who will be based in Mumbai.
“India is a key market. This move
reflects our ambition to become a
global player. As in China, we will
offer Indian customers vehicles
adapted to their expectations,” said
Gregoire Olivier, who is member of the
managing board and executive vicepresident of Asia for Peugeot.
The Lion brand has three strategic
ambitions, namely to become more
global, be a step ahead in services and
products and reinforce its operational
efficiency.
time spent on the road and in the car
is an exceptional moment, and in other
words, quality time.
The film's storyboard conveys the
notion that in today's fast-moving world
with its countless daily demands, the
real luxury is managing to find time for
yourself and living special moments.
The film therefore highlights the
hectic, nonstop life of a businessman
for whom moments spent at the wheel
of his Peugeot 508 provide a rare
chance to catch a breath.
Bill boarding, internet advertisements,
regional European press and local radio
spots will also combine to support
the launch of the French marque's
new large touring car. Check out the
promotional film at the following link:

Olivier says India is a key market for
Peugeot.
Peugeot aims to achieve a target of
having 50 per cent of its sales outside
Europe by 2015, compared with 39 per
cent in 2010.

Growing Peugeot sales in Malaysia
The 207 sedan and sporty 308 Turbo were the
major contributors to commendable Peugeot sales
of 672 units in January this year.
A total of 306 units of the 207 sedan were sold
while the 214 units of the 308 Turbo were snapped
up.
The 207 sedan comes with a number of premium
features for a B-segment car while the 308 Turbo is
offered with a six-speed auto-adaptive transmission
and a higher maximum power output of 156hp.
Apart from the new transmission, the upgraded
308 Turbo also comes with new sporty black dials
on the instrument panel as well as Bluetooth and
USB connectivity to enhance its premium quality.
Meanwhile, Nasim Sdn Bhd, the official distirbutor
of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, also recorded
sales of 71 units of the 308 VTi, 48 units of the 407,
and 33 units of the 3008.
The multiple award-winning 3008 SUV has a
powerful twin-scroll THP (turbo high pressure) 1.6litre engine and a six-speed automatic transmission,
and comes packed with premium comfort and
safety features.
Presently, there is a long waiting period for the
3008. This is a testament to its popularity among
Malaysian buyers.
Attractive offer for the 407
It is a fantastic time to get the
luxurious yet sporty Peugeot 407.
The French saloon is now offered
with either instalment payments of
RM1,260 per month or at a low interest
rate of 1.33 per cent (terms and
conditions apply).
This campaign runs from March 1
till May 31, 2011 and is valid only with
pre-selected banking facilities.
Customers can opt for other banks
but will not enjoy the special interest
rates for this campaign.
The 407 has class-leading features
such as a front double wishbone and
rear multi-link suspension, sensor
activated xenon headlamps with
washers, dual zone climate control
system and superb safety from its
seven airbags, ABS, EBD, EBA and ESP,
as well as a Euro NCAP five-star crash
rating.
NASIM Sdn Bhd, the official distributor
of the Peugeot brand in Malaysia, will
be increasing exports of the new 207
to Thailand soon.
The company is exporting the
popular sedan to Indonesia starting
this month.
Nasim began exporting the 207 to
Thailand last November with an initial
batch of 44 units.
“Besides Thailand and Indonesia,
we will soon begin exporting the 207
to other markets in the region such
as Brunei and Sri Lanka as well as
right-hand drive markets in Africa. This
in turn will further establish Malaysia
as Peugeot’s hub for the region,” said
SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin, who
is CEO of Nasim, during a recent visit
by Marc Barety, France’s ambassador
to Malaysia, to the Naza Automotive
Manufacturing (NAM) plant in Gurun,
Kedah.
Barety was accompanied by
members of the French Embassy and
the Malaysian French Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (MFFCI).
During the visit, the ambassador was
given a tour of the assembly facility for
Peugeot vehicles such as the 207, 308
and 407.
Barety was also briefed on the
preparations for the production of a
new C-segment model codenamed T73.
Nasim will produce 60,000 units of
the T73 over a five-year period from
2012 to 2016 with about 60 per cent to
be exported to other right-hand drive
countries in Asean as well as markets
outside the region.
Meanwhile, SM Nasarudin said sales
of the 207 in Malaysia have been
commendable.
In January, Nasim sold a total of
306 units of the 207 sedan, which is
equipped with an array of premium
features and Peugeot’s trademark
driving dynamics.
Also, Nasim Sdn Bhd was recently
awarded by Peugeot for the Successful
Industrialisation and Commercial
Launch of the 207 at the Peugeot 2011
Convention for Worldwide Distributors
in Valencia, Spain.

Peugeot gearing up
for more triumphs
P
eugeot Sport recently unveiled
in Paris, the new 908 endurance
racing car in which they will
campaign in this year’s Le Mans 24
Hours and the ILMC.
The 908 complies with all the latest
technical regulations and has the new
for 2011, “shark fin engine cover”.
It is a closed-cockpit car, with the
same size front and rear wheels, and
is powered by a new 3.7-litre V8 HDi
FAP 550bhp diesel engine.
This means Peugeot Sport will be
competing in endurance racing for
the fifth year running with a diesel
engine equipped with a particulate
filter (FAP).
Since 1998, more than seven million
HDi diesel engines have been sold
worldwide, thus helping Peugeot to
earn a reputation as one of the largest
producers of clean diesel power.
The 908 shares the same
technology used in all Peugeot HDi
diesel road cars.
There is a very close collaboration
between the group’s engineers and
specialists and their counterparts
at Peugeot Sport, to ensure that
expertise in areas such as fuel
consumption, respect for the
environment and performance is
shared between road cars and motor
sport.
Peugeot’s all new car, built to the
new technical regulations introduced
for 2011, was originally given the code
name 90X.
However, with the 908 HDi FAP
helping Peugeot build up an enviable
record of world class successes,
including the title in the 2007 Le
Mans Series, a one-two finish at Le
Mans in 2009 and the inaugural
Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC)
crown in 2010, it was decided to keep
the same name for the new car.
“We chose 908 as the name of the
new car in order to build on the wave
of success with which it is associated,”
says Peugeot’s director of marketing
and communications, Xavier Peugeot.
“At the same time, the new
car fits perfectly with the brand’s
new modern image. It mirrors the
modernity that is clearly visible in the
408 sets new
benchmark in Brazil
new 508 and the recently announced
new 308. At Peugeot, we have always
sought to associate our commitment
to motor sport with the real world
and with our model range. The name
908 consequently stood out as the
obvious choice.”
Following in the wake of the
legendary Peugeot 905 and the 908
HDi FAP, the 908 is the third car to
have been developed by Peugeot
Sport for endurance racing.
Like the previous cars, its mission
will be to extend Peugeot’s winning
record at Le Mans which already
stands at three wins, in 1992, 1993
and 2009.
The new car made its track debut
on July 27, 2010.
“This was the deadline we set
ourselves, although we knew we
would almost certainly run into
teething trouble given that this
was an all-new car. We did indeed
have problems but we succeeded
in resolving them one by one as we
got more and more kilometres on
the clock. One of the very positive
points we found was that the car’s
handling lived up to our expectations
straight out of the box. Between the
car’s track debut in 2010 and the
2011 Le Mans 24 Hours, we will have
completed 12 tests in all, at a
number of different circuits,” said
Peugeot Sport technical director
Bruno Famin.
Peugeot Sport has a busy year
ahead of it with a comprehensive
endurance racing programme.
The highlight of the season will
again be the Le Mans 24 Hours (June
11-12).
The calendar for this year’s ILMC
features seven races, including Le
Mans which will carry double points.
“We clearly want to defend our
ILMC title,” underlined Peugeot Sport
director Oliver Quesnel.
“We won all three rounds of the
series in 2010, but there is one round
we are especially targeting this year,
and that is Le Mans. Le Mans will
put an even bigger spotlight on
endurance racing which is a discipline
that permits car makers like Peugeot
to showcase their know-how and
technology in extreme conditions.
We have, therefore, submitted entries
for two cars for every round, with
the exception of Spa-Francorchamps
where we will take three cars to use it
as a full-scale dress rehearsal ahead of
the Le Mans 24 Hours.”
Peugeot recently launched
the 408 in Brazil, and it is the
first vehicle in the soccer-loving
nation to display the new Lion
logo.
Before introducing the 408
in Brazil, Peugeot took into
account the characteristics of the
Latin American markets and the
expectations of consumers.
The 408 project required
close collaboration between the
development teams in China,
where the vehicle has been on
sale since April, and various
research and production centres in
Latin America and France.
Test drives were conducted over
more than 1 million kilometres,
driving along the roads of Latin
America, to develop this highperformance saloon.
Elements that Peugeot aimed
to incorporate into the 408
included a unique style, a spacious
passenger compartment set off
by a very smart finish, a high level
of driving enjoyment and various
technological features as well as
the sporty appeal that the Lion
brand is renowned for.
Produced in the Peugeot factory
in Palomar, in the Buenos Aires
metropolitan area in Argentina,
the 408 is a notchback of
generous dimensions.
With its half-height architecture
that gives a strong sensation of
space, it is 4.69m long and 1.82m
wide, with a 2.81m wheelbase.
Those in the front enjoy a high
quality, dynamic environment,
adding to the driving pleasure,
while rear passengers have a
very luminous, comfortable and
extremely spacious compartment.
The large boot, with
pantographic opening and
excellent access to the interior, has
a load space of 526 litres, one of
the largest in the segment.
Also, the 408 incorporates
Peugeot’s expertise in terms of
dynamic driving behaviour and
safety.
Its rigid structure, together with
the passenger restraints (up to
six airbags) and equipment such
as ESP and ABS as standard for
emergency braking assistance and
Electronic Brake-Force Distribution
(EBD), guarantee an exemplary
level of safety.
In order to become one of
the market benchmarks, the
408 boasts the latest generation
technologies and driving
assistance equipment such as the
electrically-controlled retractable
seven-inch colour navigation
screen, which is new on the South
American continent, directional
Bi-Xenon headlights and front and
rear parking assistance.
