Fourteen of our Class of 2014 were Girl Scouts
for 8 years at St. Petronille. Although they are
no longer official "scouts" they still are giving
back to their parish and community. In April,
some members of the troop participated in the
first annual Family Fitness Walk at Lake
Ellyn, which raised funds for Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare. This
past Sunday the troop gifted St Petronille with $377.88, the
remainder of the troops funds. They asked that the money be
evenly distributed between the school and the parish for
whatever needs Ms. Aspell and Fr. Jim find most
appropriate. Ms. Aspell would like to direct the funds towards
the new literacy program that will be beginning this year. Fr.
Jim is going to direct the Church's portion to our Springboard
campaign. We are so proud of these girls! They told Fr. Jim
how grateful they will always be to be a part of our St. Petronille
community.

Today: Teen Mass- 5 pm
St. Petronille Youth Ministry has been blessed with
wonderful teens who have been a part of the choir,
led retreats, planned events, gathered to learn about
their Catholic faith, done multiple mission trips and
other service in the community. At the June Teen
Mass we will be giving a blessing to our seniors/
graduates as they begin the transition to college and
beyond. They will be missed. We are also blessing
our National Relief Network teens and adults who
will be leaving the next day. Please join us –We
will be serving cake after Mass too!
Would you like
to invest in the
faith life of St.
Petronille teens who are embarking on a pilgrimage to World
Youth Day Krakow, Poland in July of 2016?
Pope John
Paul II instituted this international event following the 1984
Year of Redemption. As he observed over 300,000 youth
from all around the world in St. Peter’s Square he said:
“What a fantastic spectacle is presented on this stage by
your gathering here today! Who claimed that today’s youth
has lost their sense of values? Is it really true that they
cannot be counted on?” It was at this gathering that the Holy
Father invested in the youth of the Catholic Church and
instituted what is now known as World Youth Day. The first
official World Youth Day took place in summer of 1986.
Crowding hundreds of thousands of youth together in one
place may terrify the average person, but to witness this
gathering is to witness joy, singing, dancing, young people
proudly holding their own flags high and exchanging
greetings and tokens. Every few years they come together
sharing one faith and learn to appreciate how very different
that looks in different cultures! St. Petronille has participated
in WYDs in Rome, Toronto, Cologne and Sydney and we are
looking forward to Poland!
So about investing:
 Pray for us as we prepare, that we grow in love and faith
during our pilgrimage.
 Support us financially by purchasing “Stock” in our
young people attending WYD or by participating in
fundraising events/opportunities we have.
 Follow us as we prepare and travel in July of 2016 via
Facebook and Instagram (to be set up this fall)
 Attend the “Stockholder’s” dinner where we will share
pictures and stories.
For more information on how to support our “WYD
Pilgrims” contact Mary at: [email protected]

Developing Saints
Some thoughts on
Development and Devotion
“There is only one tragedy, not to be a
saint.” Leon Bloy
Our life in this world is preparation for the
life of the world to come. Not that this life
isn’t important – on the contrary, it is of
infinite value. Jesus becoming one of us
shows that. Still, this life is a bit like
“Spring Training” for Heaven. We will
do well, then, to practice, practice, practice our faith
that we may improve and become more and more like
Christ. That is known as “sanctification” and it is a
life long process whereby the Holy Spirit replaces our
small, selfish lives with His own Godly life. Nothing
else is remotely as important as this!
Here is an excerpt from a prayer of Sanctification:
“Soul of Christ, Sanctify Me!”
Dear Jesus, Make a saint of me. May my heart
increase its power to love, so as to be able to minister
kindness to all and mercy to the wayward. May I
have the honor to bring cheer to those I meet on the
long and sometimes difficult road of life. In your holy
name I pray. Amen. - “The Catholic Devotional”
