exhibitiondedicatedtotheworldofsurfing.Inaddition,therenownedlocalvisualartistAlbaG.
Corralhascreatedanexclusiveinstallationforthefestival.
TheeventwillalsofeaturethepresenceofAlvaroBayona,paraplegictopsurfer,aswellasthe
creatorsoftheenvironmentalinitiativeTheSeabinProject.
Inadystopianfuturedominatedbycorporations,allnaturalhabitats,includingseasandoceans,
havebeenextinguished.ButmanresistsandacollectiveknownasSurfcitizenshascreatedthe
latestwaveontheEarth,anartificialintelligencemadeoflight,wheretheyhavemanagedto
capturethelastdropofmarinelife.Sobeginsthestorysuggestedbytheimageofthissecond
editionofArnetteSurfcityFestival,multidisciplinaryartshowfocusedonsurfculture,tobeheld
intheartspaceFabraiCoatsinthecityofBarcelona(Spain)onApril9thand10th,2016.This
meetingpointforsurfersaroundtheworldalsoapproachestheirphilosophyoflifetourbanites
mergingtwoapparentlyantonymconcepts,SurfandtheCity,anddoesitsothroughmultiple
activities:artexhibition,craftmarket,workshopswithindustryinsiders,lecturesbysocialand
environmentalleaderfigures,surfmoviepremieres,skatedemos,DJandconcertsandseainspiredcuisine.
ART
ArtistsandcraftsmenformthecoreofArnetteSurfcity
Festival, which presents the 5th edition of WE ARE
ANTONYMS, a group exhibition of contemporary art
about the festival's concept, Surf Vs City, which
includes unpublished works of artists from five
continents. They will come from Australia (Kasper
Raglus), Canada (Sean Mundy), France (Edgar Flauw,
Thibault Daumain, Thomas Lodin), Germany (Gabriel
Schmitz, Peter Phobia, Simon Frank), Japan
(330photogalleries), Mexico (Rodrigo Vázquez), Peru
(DanielaCarvalho),Philippines(CzarKristoff),Portugal(AlfredodaCrook,AmbasasDuas,FlyBlack
Bird), Russia (Anton Ivanov), South Africa (Grant Ellis) and the United States (Brooks Sterling,
ITAL/C,TylerSpangler).AndfromSpaintherewillbeÁlvaroSánchez-Montañés,Artinwreck,BYG,
Carles Medina, Grip Face, Joaquin Ballester (Fundrawings), Marc Durà, Marcos Navarro, Natxo
Bassols, Ramon Suau, Roberto Alegria, Sergi Castellà, Sergio Villalba, Víctor Bensusi, Xavi Ocaña.
Besides,localartistsJosepMargalefandtherenownedvisualartistAlbaG.Corralhavecreated
eachaninstallationspeciallyforthefestival.
SURFCITY MARKET will showcase young
designers and small enterprises related to
surf, for example handmade wetsuits
from Japan by Setsugekka, besides BCN
Wax -surfboard wax from Barcelona-,
Macho -auteur fins-, Wreck At Sea -sea
artisans-, Reset Priority -swimsuits-, VO /
MA -surf clothing-, Arvuus -surfing tools
and gadgets-, or handmade wood
skateboards by Ayma Board. Ayma
himselfwillshowhowhecreatestheseart
pieces in SURFCITY WORKSHOPS, where
other surf and skateboard craftsmen will
also show their skills as the French artist Edgar Flauw, CeCe Longboards experts and Chipiron
Surfboardsshapers.
CONSCIENCE
Socialandenvironmentalconsciencedominates
on SURFCITY TALKS, a series of lectures by
professionals in the sector as the Australian
surfersbehindTheSeabinProject,thatcollects
all floating garbage, oil, fuel and detergents in
ordertokeepoceansclean.Alsotherewillbea
lecture by elite athlete Álvaro Bayona,
paraplegic after suffering an avalanche while
snowboarding in 2010 -as reflected on the
documentary Camí d'Alaska-, who today is 31
years old and bronze winner at ISA World
Adaptive Surfing Championship. He's also a champion of increasing awareness advocating
breaking all limits practicing various modalities of adaptive extreme sports, in addition to
manufacturing chairs suitable for water sports through his foundation. Inclusive diversity is also
promoted by Goofys sports project, whose purpose is that children with various pathologies
enjoythesea,surfandmusic,escapingfromhisroutine.Inaddition,otherNGOswillhaveaspace
atthefestivaltopublicizetheirinitiatives.
LIFESTYLE
Of course, there will also be room for fun and this last block
reflects the good vibes and the rhythm of life on the beach.

LIVE by Estrella Damm will DJ music, live concerts and
performances as the "sound poetry" by Oficina de Hechos, a
trioconsistingofpoetLuisTejerina,musicianUnaiAzkuneand
filmmakerNachoSusaeta,allBasquesurfersandartisanswitha
characteristic way of understanding life. Finally, SURFCITY
CINEMA will premiere in Spain films as Rhythm Presents: The
SoundOfChangeExperience,amoviethatblendsart,surfand
music, as it follows various riders and shapers in a journey
aroundtheworld;Freezing,acomedyabouttwoBritishfriends
traveling to the cold beaches of Iceland in search of the perfect wave glimpsed in an old family
photo;orashortfilmaboutthetriptoIndonesiatakenbytheadventuroussurferKepaAcero,
starofthepopulardocumentaries5waves5continents.
