Bio-Logic - Fire On The Mountain
Bio-logic ||
While women‘s products have grown to more than 37% of adult ski sales, equipment suppliers have failed to introduce
a significant innovation in the category for several years. Völkl introduces an entirely new concept, called Bio-Logic,
that delivers a huge leap in performance PLUS the potential to reduce injury. Völkl engineers set out to re-invigorate
the women‘s category, and found through testing the new products that there was an added benefit - reduced stress
on the knees. 3 key attributes allow the new Bio-Logic system to create this revolutionary blend of improved performance and ease of use:
Bio-Logic Stance
Marker and Völkl engineers developed new Motion systems that put the skier in a more balanced stance. The
tradition of using heel lifts only exacerbates the biomechanical challenges that women face while skiing. For BioLogic, we created a more neutral stance by raising the toe of the binding – resulting in better balance between the
muscles in the front and rear of the legs. The Bio-Logic stance affords less overloading of the quadriceps muscles, which undergo most of the strain in the turn. More balanced muscle action between the quads and hamstrings
means better performance, and potential protection for the knees.
Bio-Logic Geometry
Bio-Logic ski geometry – The proprietary Bio-Logic sidecut shapes are narrower in the tail than those of unisex
skis. They feature a specific, progressive design that has a tighter radius in the front of the ski for easier turn
initiation and a longer radius toward the tail. The narrower tail allows the skier to finish the turn with less effort,
allowing her to transition from one turn to the next with ease. This also reduces the load on the knees during the
end of the turn.
Bio-Logic Flex
Völkl engineers carefully matched the flex of all Bio-Logic models to work in synergy with the new stance and
geometry. Slightly softer than unisex designs, the Bio-Logic flex enhances the overall performance of the system
and gives the skier the ultimate in comfort and control.
0809_Ski Collection
1. The Wide Ride interface is 30% wider than the original iPT. It was developed specifically for skis 80mm and wider.
2. The toe and heel pieces for the Wide Ride system are the same design as those of the Marker Duke and Jester freeride bindings. The new components contribute to better
performance with a more secure wrap on the boot lug, and increased directional elasticity in the heel.
3. Lighter weight, shorter connection to the ski. Both the new toe and heel components are extremely light, allowing the skier to have a very wide ski that is as easy to handle
and maneuverable as a narrower system. This is also aided by the short overall length of the system.
iPT Wide Ride Benefits:
Pioneered by Völkl and Marker in 1999, the Motion system has undergone continuous development to ensure better performance for skiers of all abilities. iPT Wide Ride was the first ski/binding system to account for today’s wider ski shapes. Until now, system suppliers have adjusted their system specifications for wider skis only by adding wider brakes, hardly a performance enhancement. iPT stands for ‘internal power transmission,’ meaning that the
binding interface is built INSIDE the ski, resulting in unparalleled power transmission and precision. Wide Ride improves performance in three key ways:
0809_Ski Collection
Power Switch Technology - Power Switch™ consists of dual carbon fiber rods encased in full-length longitudinal “tuning tubes.” Power Switch features 3 distinct modes. Moving the switch from Cruise to
Dynamic to Power compresses springs at the front of each rod, increasing the ski’s power, for the ultimate personalization for the end user.
Power - When the skier wants to ski hard with a lot of energy
Dynamic - More relaxed ride than Power, the ‘middle’ setting
Cruise - The ‘off’ setting, for when the skier wants to relax and just cruise

Motion Systems
Völkl is the only supplier that offers a distinct interface for every range of ski widths. Most manufacturers are content to use
the same interface on all their systems, regardless of ski width. Not Völkl. The interface, width, and components of each of
our ski/binding systems is precisely tailored to the skier type for that system. This ensures the best possible performance
for anyone who buys a ski/binding system engineered by Völkl and Marker.
Motion iPT Wide Ride (80 + mm)
The Wide Ride interface is the first ever designed for the widest mid-fats. Our engineers
designed an interface that is 30% wider. The interface occupies a shorter length on the ski,
resulting in even better flex. Combined with the Triple Pivot Elite toe and Inter-pivot heel
from Marker, Wide Ride sets the performance standard for mid-fat systems. Demo and retail
friendly, iPT Wide Ride is available in 14.0 (5-14) and 12.0 (3-12) versions.
Motion iPT Speed Ride (75-79mm)
Motion iPT Speed Ride was developed for skis with between 75mm and 80mm waist widths.
The system features a wider interface than the original iPT, plus a new, Triple Pivot Comfort toe based on the Triple Pivot Elite toe of Marker’s Royal Family bindings. The new toe
is shorter and lighter than that of the four-linkage toe, with enhanced power transmission.
Combined with the Inter-Pivot heel, Speed Ride ensures optimum power to the edge for
greater precision and incredible tenacity and precision on groomed snow.
Motion iPT (under 75mm)
Motion iPT was the original Internal Power Transmission product, and is still featured on our
Racetiger and Tigershark models. With the interface built into the ski, it provides precise
power transmission and easy ski flex for the optimal blend of power transmission and allmountain skiing performance.
3Motion
The 3 Motion interface was designed specifically for Völkl’s mid-range systems. Marker and
Völkl engineers applied what was learned from the award-winning Motion iPT system – that
improving flex in the mid-body of the ski yields a smoother ride and better edge grip. To
achieve this, they devised a new, segmented interface, allowing for more uniform flex under
the foot. Available in both 11.0 TC (3-11, Twincam Heel), and 10.0 (2.5-10) models.
Motion LT
The Motion LT system is ideal for novice to intermediate skiers who want to improve, featuring the original Motion rail design and Marker 10.0 toes and heels. The new toe and heel
components on the Motion LT reduce weight by 26% to 989 grams, making the Oceana, Cielo,
Tiger, and Unlimited AC models lighter in weight and easier to handle for skiers who are just
learning.
3Motion Jr.
Junior 3Motion features a segmented interface that allows the mid-body of the ski to flex
more easily, for easier turn initiation, more consistent edge contact, and better control.
Because both the toe and heel are moveable, the skier can always be centered in the correct
standing position on the ski. The 3Motion 7.0 (din 2.5-7) and 4.5 (din .75-4.5) models are available in lengths 80-150cm. A lower stand height gives kids easier maneuverability and better
control. The ultimate performance and convenience for retailer and junior skier alike,

Women-Specific Technologies
In addition to Bio-Logic, Völkl uses several other technologies dedicated to making our women’s products easier and more
fun to use.
Attiva eMotion (70 to 80mm)
The new Attiva eMotion binding system features the raised toe, Bio-Logic stance along with
a new, Triple Pivot Comfort toe adapted from Marker’s Royal Family bindings. The new toe is
shorter and lighter in weight, with boosted power transmission. A shorter interface that goes
from 260 to 330mm means the shortest possible footprint on the ski for optimum flex. The interface is designed for women’s iPT skis with waist widths between 70 and 79mm.
Attiva Motion iPT Wide Ride (80 + mm)
Also with Bio-Logic stance, the iPT Wide Ride is built for skis 80mm and wider with a shorter overall footprint of 260-330mm.
Attiva 3Motion
Updated with a new toe spacer to create the Bio-Logic stance, Attiva 3Motion’s interface is designed to improve intermediate
through advanced women’s performance by allowing a round ski flex in the mid-body of the ski.
Attiva Motion LT 10.0
Attiva Motion LT 10.0 (din range 2.5-10) is ideal for improving women skiers. The Motion rails on this system feature the extra
pin hole, 1cm ahead to adjust the skier’s standing position. The new toe and heel components on the Attiva Motion LT reduce
weight by 26% to 989 grams, making the Oceana and Cielo models lighter in weight and easier to handle for skiers who are
just learning.
Attiva Cores
In Völkl’s women’s cores strips of lighter weight wood are integrated in the laminations, giving the core 20 per cent less
weight and 20 per cent softer flex. The women’s wood cores enable us to create the right performance and feel for any
woman skier, making high performance skis that have the liveliness and resilience of wood, while still offering the critical
attributes of light weight and soft flex. Pictured above is a cross section of the Sensorwood Light core, featured in the Aura
and Kiku models.

Ski Constructions
Double Grip Technology
Völkl engineers found a way to create better edge grip without compromising the versatility offered by modern ski geometry.
Here’s how: two longitudinal chambers run the length of the ski, tapering toward the tip and tail. Doubling the height of the
construction above the edge creates added support for the edge, and in turn, better edge grip. Three distinct Double Grip
constructions are used in the 2009/2010 lineup.
Extended Double Grip
The unique Motion iPT interface allowed Völkl engineers to further develop our signature Double
Grip construction, creating Extended Double Grip. The added height extends from tip to tail, placing more material where it’s needed - in support of the edges. Featured on several new models
for both men and women for next season, Extended Double Grip has the most consistent pressure distribution of any construction Völkl has ever created, offering more control, and better
performance.
Power Grip
All skis with 3Motion feature Power Grip™ construction, which improves power delivery to the
edge with a unique 3 Dimensional design. As with Extended Double Grip, the segmented Motion
interface allows the ski to be shaped with more material supporting the edge, for better edge grip
and smoother turns.
Double Grip LT
The Double Grip LT construction also utilizes dual longitudinal chambers. Developed with the
needs of novice to intermediate skiers in mind, fiberglass layers are built up inside the chambers.
This places more material where it can support the edges, while allowing a clean balance between
longitudinal and torsional flex.
Power Construction
Völkl’s longest-running construction, Power Construction utilizes traditional vertical sidewalls and
a torsion box internal layup. Used on the Race Stock skis as well as all the Freeskiing models, this
construction provides tremendous grip and stability when combined with the Sensorwood core.
Power Shell Construction/Power Shell Light
Völkl’s Power Shell Construction utilizes a full cap shell, without a vertical sidewall. This design
allows for an easy, round flex pattern, with an extremely friendly ride quality.
* Power Shell Light construction was developed for Völkl’s backcountry skis, and features an
epoxy-based cap construction.
Core Configurations
Extended Sensorwood Core
Extended Sensorwood Cores are created in a complex CNC milling process. This highly sophisticated milling program enables Völkl to produce wood cores with extreme precision. It is ‘extended’
upward and lengthwise, milled to form the chambers of the Extended Double Grip construction
The core consists of a blend of poplar and beech wood, and is found in Völkl’s highest performing
models.
Sensorwood Core
Like the Extended Sensorwood Core, the Sensorwood core is CNC milled using vertically laminated
poplar and beech wood.
0910 SKI COLLECTION ||
Extended Wood Core
The Extended (XTD) Wood Core is also used in Extended Double Grip constructions. More forgiving
than the Extended Sensorwood Core, it consists of two full-length wood cores along each side of
the ski. Each is laminated to the bottom layer of titanium, forming the ski’s ‘backbone.’ The top of
each section is milled to adapt to the Motion iPT interface.
Dual Wood Core
As the name suggests, The Dual Wood Core consists of parallel strips of wood surrounded by PU.
Featured in the Power Grip construction, it is layered with extra glass sheets top and bottom for
added ski rebound.
Wood Core
A central member surrounded by PU, Wood Core provides stable, lively skis to improving novice
and intermediate skiers.
Extended Low Profile - Völkl Rocker Designs
Round Shape Throughout
Völkl engineers have refined ELP, or elongated, low profile rocker design to match
the new Gotama and other freeskiing models. Its round overall shape allows easy
smearing and speed control without sacrificing the tracking characteristics and firm
snow performance of our big mountain skis. The profile features a smooth, gradual
bend toward the nose and tail. It’s high enough to float in the powder, but when you
tip the ski on edge, there’s more consistent edge contact, giving the skier more control, regardless of snow conditions. The new Gotama is a prime example of the versatility of ELP, with its amazing combination of flotation and all-mountain versatility.
Three Flex Zones
The Gotama and Kuro feature three flex zones: the front of the ski is stiff – since the
rocker design is pre-flexed, added stiffness in front provides stability. The flex in the
mid-body of the ski is medium, providing a transition to the softer tail, which allows
ease of turning on the groomed, and maneuverability in powder.
Specific Sidecuts
Each Völkl ski with ELP has a sidecut that is adjusted to match its pre-flexed design
and intended use. Deep powder for the Kuro, switch riding for the Chopstick, high
speed for the Katana, and all-terrain, all-conditions versatility for the Gotama and
Kiku. Even the Jr. Gotama has a rocker-specific shape. All of these shapes take
groomed snow performance into account as well.
Lower Tip Shape
Part of the extended design is a lower tip shape, which provides a smooth ride on the
groomed, and does not dive in soft snow since there is a consistent bend throughout
the ski. Despite the lower profile, the ELP tip is the same height as a traditional tip, it
just achieves the height over a longer distance.

Additional Völkl Freeskiing Technologies
Tough Box Construction
Tough Box construction consists of the use of a Multi-Layer wood core (see below) and a composite/
fiberglass sheath to create the ultimate resilience and snap for our freeskiing models. The sheath is
wrapped around the wood core in the mid-body of the ski, increasing strength and screw retention.
Many Völkl freeskiing models also feature a carbon layer in the bottom of the ski that provides additional stability and durability.
Multi-Layer Wood Core
Völkl freeskiing models without Titanal feature a multi-layer wood core that features two different densities of wood. In the
binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates more secure screw retention, preventing binding pull-out, and the soft, supple poplar section allows for resilience and
snap. The flex pattern is tailored to each ski model depending on the desired performance.
Symmetrical Sidecut
The symmetrical sidecut allows the park and pipe rider the best possible performance by
allowing a center-mounted ski to perform the same while riding switch as it does while riding
forward. It also allows completely even balance for rail sliding, since the exact same amount
of material is over the rail on both sides.
Butter Zone
Völkl jibbing skis feature a butter zone, softer in the fore body of the ski for rolling up on the tip,
but with a normal, progressive flex pattern in the tail for support on landings, and enhanced
all-mountain performance.
Völkl Sidecut Technologies
Dimension-3 Sidecut Technology
Völkl continues to design sidecuts while simulating the ski’s flex, as though it were in a turn. This proprietary technology
enables us to determine the line and shape of the ski’s natural arc. Traditional 2D computer design works in horizontal and
vertical planes only. Völkl’s Dimension-3 technology is different, because it adds the crucial “third dimension” to ski design.
The benefits of Dimension-3 Technology are:
• Dimension-3 simulation allows Völkl to match the ski’s sidecut to its flex, creating a true
synthesis of the two. This provides a smooth ride quality
• Consistent edge contact from tip to tail. Uniform edge contact results in better control at
any speed.
• Versatility, stability, feel, balance, edge grip, and power, are all increased.
XTP - Extended Tip Profile
The actual extending of the sidecut beyond the forward contact point into the tip area. The widest point of the sidecut is
located in front of the contact point. All models with XTP have their tip dimensions measured at this location. The direct result
is effortless turn initiation in all conditions, combined with complete directional stability.

The Gotama Jr. revolutionizes soft snow skiing for kids. When you put a young skier on an 80mm or even wider ski, it creates a
great deal of force to push against. The benefit of using an ELP rocker shape for kids is huge – as they sink down in the powder
they maintain a maneuverability that allows them to focus more on making turns and less on pushing snow around. The shape
of the Gotama Jr. is 113-80-105mm, wide enough for the deepest of snow conditions, yet still narrow enough for the groomed
or park and pipe terrain. A truly compelling new junior product.
