TOPS meets every Thursday at 7:30 at the
Maryfield Clinic. Everyone welcome.
WANTED
Would anyone have a walker that they might donate
to the Seniors Harmony Centre. Some of our
members/guests need some support once they get
inside and a wheeled walker would be a big help.
Call Mary Lou Sweeting 306-646-4524.
WANTED
Years ago, Ethel Northcut put together a school
picture history of Maryfield, Fairlight and
surrounding rural schools. We would like several
copies of this book for former students of the area.
If you have a copy you don’t want, we would be
interested. If I remember correctly, the books sold
for about $18. They were done on a photocopier
and put together like the old yearbooks with a navycolored cover. If you have one you would be
interested in selling, contact Bob & Helen Johnson,
306-646-4348

supper and a decorated castle cake. The candles
that set the alarm system off was noisy but fun to
end the day of my birthday. Both evenings were
enjoyed.

TD SUMMER READING PROGRAM:
Register now for the
Summer Reading Program
presented by
Southeast Regional Library.
The program is designed to keep young people
reading during the summer months. Students
can drop 2 grade levels during the summer
holidays so this is a great way to keep up their
interest and reading skills. The program has 2
levels - pre-reader for preschoolers and regular
for elementary school children. The children
receive a package which includes a reading log
book and stickers to keep track of the books they
read. They do not need to come to the library to
participate. They can earn points for end of
summer rewards by doing their reading anywhere
- at home, on vacation, at the lake or in the car.
They can read for themselves, to their siblings or
to Mom & Dad. They can also read books online
through Hoopla, Tumblebooks, etc. Every book
counts! For more information, please visit the
website: tdsummerreadingclub.ca OR come
into the library to check it all out. Ashley
Leepart - the playschool teacher- will be doing a
special event with each of the pre-reading and the
readers (older kids) groups during the month of
July. WATCH FOR POSTERS!
HOOPLA FOR KIDS: A GREAT FEATURE FOR
PARENTS! Log on to this site and let the kids
decide on the features they want. All adult items
are blocked and the materials are all appropriate
for kids.
VIDEO GAMES: As of Feb. 1, 2016, Southeast
Regional Library's video game collection is
available for loan. Only Southeast Regional
patrons will be able to use them. We have
access to many of the newest and most popular
games or Wii, WiiU, XBox, Playstation 3 and
Playstation 4. You can place a hold at the library
or on the Southeast Regional library website
using your library card and password. Games are
loaned for a week (7days) and have an overdue
fee of $1.00/day (just like DVDs). Plans are in
motion to expand the collection this year and to
get a small collection installed in every branch.

R.M. OF MARYFIELD NO. 91
The R.M. of Maryfield No. 91 is asking that
ratepayers who spray and hire custom applicators
with hi-clearance sprayers to please use approaches
to enter your fields. Driving through the ditches
causes many ruts. The R.M. of Maryfield mows the
ditches and willows to keep the roads safe for all rate
payers throughout the fall and winter seasons. With
increased ruts comes increased costs of repairs and
more down time thus the ditches will not get
mowed. If you have any further questions please
don’t hesitate to call the office, 306-646-2033.
SCRAP TIRE PROGRAM
RM of Maryfield is excited to a part of the Scrap Tire
Program! The Program will allow rate payers to take
any used tires to the drop off to be disposed of FREE
OF CHARGE!! The Wawota Lions group is holding a
tire round up from June 27, 2016 to July 17, 2016.
Tires can be dropped off at NNW 33-10-32 W1 (4.5
miles west of the Viterra Elevator on the South side of
the highway) OR you can call the Wawota Lions and
they will come and pick up your tires! Wawota Lions

Found someone who is lost?
747,000 Canadians are living with a form of
dementia. Many will wander and become lost.
Check for a MedicAlert ID bracelet. Read the vital
information on the back. It is the quickest way back
home to a caregiver or to family. Help bring a
person with dementia safely home.
Understanding Wandering
Wandering refers to the need to keep on the move,
often seen in people with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Wandering behavior may appear to be aimless or
confused but it is often quite focused. The person
may be trying to get to a particular destination or
accomplish a task such as meeting someone or
going to work. Wandering may occur at any time of
the day or night, and may take the person out of the
home. Wandering outdoors can expose the person
to such dangers as traffic or extreme weather
conditions.
Wandering, like walking, is not in itself a dangerous
activity. Short term memory loss and the impaired
ability to reason or to make sound judgments can
contribute to unsafe wandering behavior. When
done in a safe environment, it can be a healthy
physical and mental outlet for a person with
dementia.
Reasons for Wandering
Aimless wandering – non focused walking with little
or no apparent direction, purpose or destination,
may be the person’s response to feelings of stress,
anxiety or physical discomfort.
Purposeful wandering – may be looking for a familiar
place that will give them feelings of security and
reassurance. They may appear to be searching for
something or trying to return to familiar surroundings
from their past.
Night time wandering – broken sleep patterns may
cause restlessness and disorientation in the middle
of the night. Confusion about time may also cause
the person to be unaware of the difference between
day and night.
Industrious wandering - the person may incorporate
repetitive behavior into their wandering. In their
need to keep busy, they may continue habits or
recreate schedules or routines established long
ago.
Managing Wandering
Allow safe wandering – when able to wander freely
in a safe and secure environment, the person with
Alzheimers or dementia can enjoy a healthy outlet
for feelings of anxiety, distress or restlessness. A
fenced backyard can ensure that the person is able
to wander safely outdoors. Consider putting locks
or alarms on any doors to the outside.
Provide visual cues – Provide familiar objects,
furniture and pictures and consider signs and
labels. Leave a light on in the hallway or by the
bed.
Develop meaningful activities – consider involving
the person in day to day activities, such as doing
chores or helping with household duties. Try
another activity if they show signs of becoming
bored or frustrated.
Exercise – try to involve the person in a regular
exercise program. This can provide stimulation,
and use up extra energy and may help the person
sleep better.
