ARCHA RECORD BREAKING SEASON UNDERWAY! After being honored with the NRCHA Affiliate of The Year in 2015, the chances of topping that honor became a reality as the banquet was the most attended affair in 10 years. In addition to that, our first show weekend of the year broke a record with 227 entries and 14 new memberships! Friday evening found members, family and friends enjoying a night filled with laughter, great food and 2015 Champions being honored at the Barnhouse Village in Bath, PA. Following a delicious buffet, the presentation of awards was emceed by Tom Iannotti and our new president Frank Prisco. The Awards Committee outdid themselves again this year with beautiful awards created and designed by Skyline Silversmiths. ARCHA recognized Judy Iannotti, Lashon Bussell, Edie Petaccio, Debbie Gastelu and Joanne Hatchen with beautiful Bandera pocketbooks for all their hard work throughout year. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a custom headstall and gift certificate to Tom Balding Bits & Spurs given to our outgoing president Dom Conicelli. It was also announced that this year’s 1K Non-Pro Champion will receive a Ranch Cutting Saddle graciously sponsored and donated by Dick Rosell and Meg Rosell-Pursel of “Rosell Trailer Sales” in Lenhartsville, PA. The Silent Auction was again a huge fundraiser for the club due to a variety of donations. Besides donations provided by members, we would like to acknowledge several businesses that generously donated items for the auction. Many thanks to Kinda Silly Cafe, Tom Balding Bits & Spurs, Skyline Silversmiths, Sue Rosell, who donated a fabulous pencil drawing of “Gus” from Lonesome Dove, Tackroominc.com, Henderson Western, Bill Pursel Tack and Ashley Eitel just to name a few. The following morning started our 2016 show season at the beautiful Willow Brook Farms in Catasauqua,PA. Two full days of NRCHA/ARCHA/AQHA classes found many new faces and horses enjoying their first show of the year! Kinda Silly Cafe spear headed by Edie Petaccio was back in full force, with over a dozen crock pots filled with hot meals for all to enjoy throughout the day. Members also contributed their favorite dishes from morning to evening. The ARCHA would also like to wish Frank Prisco the best of luck as he takes over the presidency. Great to see a large turnout of Green Riders again this year. Non-Pro members Lyndra Bills and Liz Parsons have stepped up again this year with supplying Green Rider Hi-Score awards at each show! Lastly, we cannot go without thanking all the people who work so hard putting in long hours to make our shows what they are! The support and the camaraderie from the membership truly shines! APRIL 2016 GREEN RIDER HIGH POINT CHAMPIONS Thank you to Non-Pro members Lyndra Bills and Liz Parsons for graciously sponsoring the High point awards for green classes at each show again this year. Congratulations to Green Rider I High Point Champion Mike Rizzo - Sheza Lil Happy (Top Left) Congratulations to Green Rider II High Point Champion Danielle Prisco - Austin Moody (Bottom Left) Congratulations to Green Horse Box High Point Champion Lori Palmentera - Telenita Mac (Right) VET CORNER BY ARCHA MEMBER Paul L. Henrich, D.V.M. We all travel with our horses-how else would we get to our shows? Going on the road increases our horse’s exposure to both sickness and accidents. It is a good idea to have some items on hand for both possibilities. Sickness can strike anytime and to any degree. A little trailer soreness may be treated with a dose of Bute given 12 hrs. before showing. Travel stress ulcers can be prevented during travel by pretreating with a quarter tube of either Gastrogard or Ulcergard as they are the same medications named differently for marketing purposes. Having some TMZ’s on hand for a mild cold or slight fever is always a good idea. Dreaded colic can be initially treated with Banamine if mild and before professional care arrives if more serious. Accidents call for different treatments. Ointments for scrapes and small lacerations should be easy to have on hand as drugs like Bacitracin are available over the counter. Rolls of cotton, Vetwrap, tape and gauze can cover a lot of minor wounds. With your veterinarian’s approval tranquilizers can be critical in an emergency. A fly mask and ophthalmic ointment may save time in case of a mild eye infection. An ice bag may be handy to have for any leg swelling and would be hard to locate quickly. As with all occasions keeping your veterinarian’s phone number in your truck or trailer can save a lot of anxiety. A good relationship “ with the vet” will help both you and your horse. Proceeds to benefit Equi-librium Therapeutic Riding Equi-librium began in 1982 as Monroe County Riding for the Handicapped. It was started by a small group of dedicated volunteers from Monroe County 4H and the Monroe County Easter Seal Society; it served five children with cerebral palsy and had one instructor. After the merger of Easter Seals of Lehigh and Northampton Counties, the program known as Easter Seal RISE (Riding Instruction for Special Equestrians), serving children in Lehigh, Northampton and Monroe counties. In the 1980”s and 1990’s, programs were conducted throughout the Lehigh Valley and the Poconos at various commercial equestrian centers, utilizing these centers’ horses and facilities.
