HARVESTHAMPER
Harvesting Time is celebrated as different festivals in different parts of India.
India is the only country with such huge variety of seasons where we get different
crops harvested in different seasons. Each time the farmers would cut the crops,
they made them special and memorable days for celebrations by naming them.
Harvest festivals can be found at various times at different places. In Britain,
North America, Canada and the US , these festivals are celebrated as Thanks
giving festivals.
In the month of January, farmers of Punjab started growing and harvesting
maize, til and sugarcane. They started offering them to the God of fire as a symbol
of thanks giving every year. Yes, we are talking about

During the same time when Punjabis celebrate Lohri, the people in
North of India celebrate Makar Sankranti and people in Kerela
celebrate
POngal
.On the eve of Makar Sankranti, North Indians
offer jaggery made of sugar cane, moong dal and rice (in the form of
Khichri) to Brahmins or needy and poor people. On the special day of Pongal,
people make a special dish , boat races are also held which is a major part of
celebration.
Followed by Lohri, comes Basant Panchmi. It is celebrated on the fifth day of
Maagh maas ( name of Hindi month). It reflects the blossoming of yellow
mustard flowers in the fields. People in Bengal worship Goddess Saraswati on
this special day. They offer yellow flowers and sweet yellow rice, where as people
in Northern India worship the Sun God for blessing them with the golden crops of
mustard and wheat .Thus they welcome the season of Basant
