Thank you Bill and Cheryl. A Happy Birthday to Sir Knight Mike Faley who turned 95 on September 4th. The October 24th Exemplification is only 4 weeks away. Have you asked anyone yet? Our recruiting teams are busy attending Council meetings to encourage Knights to be at the Spalding Center on October 24th for the Exemplification. Watching Pope Francis say Mass was very inspiring. I hope this will encourage 3rd Degree Knights to say YES on October 24th. Please pray for Pope Francis’ safe visit and safe trip home! Vivat Jesus SK Don Stahl Faithful Navigator NOTICE!! October Business Meeting The next regularly scheduled meeting of Spalding Assembly 0206, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will be Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Radnor Road in Peoria. If anyone wants to bring a snack to share, please feel free to do so!! Sir Knight Mike Faley was assisted in celebrating his 95th birthday and was presented with a cake from his fellow Sir Knights during the 4th Degree picnic at Sir Knight Bill Meismer’s farm after the Toluca Labor Day Parade. As a footnote, Sir Knight Mike averages 50 Honor Guards each year! marching orders . . . . . Sir knight JIM COPES Greetings All, I would like to express my gratitude to all of our Sir Knights who travelled to Kewanee and to Manito to support our Brother Assemblies in a couple of major events. We had nine Sir Knights at Kewanee and ten at Manito. On September 29th, for the first time, we attended the arrival of the Honor Flight at the Peoria Airport. We had eight Sir Knights attending in full Regalia (swords included). It was an honor to be present for such a great event and we are hoping that next year we can participate in all of the Honor Flights at Peoria Airport. It was especially gratifying to be there for one of our own who made the flight, Sir Knight Carroll Besing. The picture of the Color Guard was not accepted for publication in the Columbian, however, the picture will be on the Supreme’s website (www.kofc.org/knightsinaction) for the month of October. I would like to ask all Sir Knights to ask the Grand Knight or Scribe to contact me as soon as possible for the Deceased Members Masses in November. Dates will fill quickly, and I would like to have the opportunity when there is a conflict to be able to contact the councils and try to get dates moved so we can avoid the need to split the Honor Guard. As a note to all Sir Knights on my calling list, I am trying to convert the calls to emails for more effective time for me and I am able to put more complete messages into my communication. I am pretty sure that everyone on my list received my messages last week. I know this is probably not a normal thing for you to do, but I would like to ask that you check emails at least once per date in the early afternoon. I will try to get all updates out in the morning so that we can execute the calling tree fairly early in the day. My thanks to all of you for your help with this. Again, I would like to invite all Sir Knights with Regalia to please participate in our Honor Guards. If you are a Sir Knight who does not have Regalia and would like to purchase a package but could use some assistance, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Fourth Degree Officers. The Assembly can assist you. May the Lord be with you each and every day. MEMO FROM THE MARSHAL —sIR KNIGHT MIKE WEST TO: My Brother Sir Knights FROM.: Faithful Marshal, Sir Knight Mike West My Brother Sir Knights: Last month I encouraged you to put more focus on correct protocols at the various events we attend. We’ve done visitations, funerals, and masses and I want you to know that both your Faithful Captain and I have noticed a huge improvement. I congratulate all of you! (And, I think I’ve improved my personal focus on right vs. left!!) This past weekend, September 26th and 27th, we assisted the Kewanee Assembly and the Pekin Assembly. In Kewanee on Saturday, nine of us were able to make the 100th Anniversary Mass at St. Pope John Paul II Parish celebrated by Bishop Jenky. Total in the Honor Guard - 15. Then on Sunday in Manito, along with Faithful Master Bernie Mennemeyer, ten of us joined eleven Sir Knights from the Pekin Assembly. Total in the Honor Guard - 22. At both Masses, all went extremely well. As much as possible, depending on the venues, we did things for the Bishop as we do at the Cathedral, and both assemblies thanked us for our presence and our help. While this is always very gratifying to hear, it brings me to my next point… Recruit! Recruit!! Recruit!!! The plans for the physical aspect of the Exemplification are moving along very well. The intangible aspect - CANDIDATES - are things that we on the committee can work on as we do our own recruiting, but the BULK of the Candidates will/ should come from all of you! Look at the numbers in the previous paragraph, and then think (if you’ve been around long enough - and believe me if you haven’t) about how many more Sir Knights used to be in the Kewanee, Pekin, and Spalding Assemblies! Don’t rely on the same few to do the recruiting or just figure that “someone else” will sponsor someone. You do it!! I again challenge each and every one of you to sponsor at least ONE candidate. 20, if you can. There is NO LIMIT here. If we don’t continue to sponsor Knights into our Councils and Assemblies, we will cease to exist inside thirty years. I’ve heard it said that - “Losers LET things happen; Winners MAKE things happen!” I’d prefer that we all WIN this one. Think about it… Vivat Jesus! SK Mike West Faithful Marshall, PFN LAST MINUTE ADDITIONS/CHANGES!! It was learned after printing most of this newsletter that Sir Knight Joe Waugh was also on the Honor Flight on Wednesday, September 29th. Also, ther e is a change r elating to the All Saints Day Mass on November 1st: It will be at Sacr ed Hear t instead of the Cathedral.
