EVANGELIZATION: Go and Make Disciples Evangelization means bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the driving power of the Gospel itself. We are looking for people who would like to join us in a parish Evangelization team. The Evangelization team assists the parish in discovering ways to deepen the faith, share the faith and invite others to the faith. They act as a catalyst for evangelization to happen in the parish. They are not the sole evangelizers of the parish. This team will help us remember that we are ALL called to evangelize. With our baptism, came the mission to share our faith with others. The Church tells us that the reason St. Patrick’s and all parishes exist is to evangelize. Please join us in making this parish a vibrant faith community. We are excited to welcome those wanting to be part of the team to carry out the mission and gather new ideas. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Vicki Borst, Pastoral Minister at 402-721-6611 ext 18 or [email protected]. From the Pastor From the Pastor, Fr. Dave Belt “Elijah prayed for death, saying: ‘This is enough, O Lord! Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.’ But then an angel touched him and ordered him to get up and eat. Then, strengthened by that food, he walked forty days and forty nights.” Elijah wasn’t too happy with God. After all that he had done as one of God’s prophets, he was running for his life. It seems that Queen Jezebel wasn’t too happy that Elijah had killed 450 of her personal prophets, so she had vowed to kill him by noon of the next day. Elijah is to the point where death actually sounds pretty good. But God has a different plan in mind. Even when things are looking bleak and hopeless, God has a way to overcome evil and turn a difficult situation into something good. Elijah is able to continue his journey because of the word of encouragement he received from the angel and the food that he received from heaven. We too receive a message of hope and the gift of nourishment for the journey when we gather to celebrate the Eucharist. It is in this gathering that our weary lives are touched by the beautiful and abundant grace of God, so that we may continue on our way to eternal life in heaven. “The Eucharist bathes the tormented soul in light and love. Then the soul appreciates these words, ‘Come all you who are sick, I will restore your health.’” –St. Bernadette Soubirous From Dan Koenig, Principal of Archbishop Bergan Catholic School ~The Bergan On-line Store has added some dress-code items to its listings. All school Masses will be taking place at 8:30am this year. This change has been made so that we have to ability to schedule and offer all of the intended curriculum during the school day. ~The Middle/High School day will be extended 10 minutes and we will be dismissing daily at 3:30pm. This change was made in order to allow us to exceed instructional hours for specific courses required by the Nebraska Department of Education. God of all knowledge, You knew us when we were still in our mother’s womb. You know our comings and our goings. Grant us wisdom to act on the knowledge we have of you, and humility to admit when we do not know what to do. Bless our minds with the knowledge of you and how you sent your Son into the world to show us the way to you. Bless all students who are preparing to go back to school. Bless their teachers and aides that help them to learn. In addition, give us who are parents the ability to be the first teachers in the faith we have received from our parents. Amen. Who are either baptized or unbaptized, but are not Catholic. Who are 18 and older. RCIA is a journey of faith: It is the process by which men and women enter the Catholic Church. It is a journey in that you are paired with a Catholic sponsor to help guide you along the way. You will join other candidates and sponsors in the form of weekly classes that begin in early September, culminating with entry into the Catholic Church the night before Easter. RCIA is about Sacrament: Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion) are typically celebrated at the Easter Vigil mass. Stewardship-A Way of Life 4 Parish Financial Stewardship Summary Weekend of August 1 & 2: Total received this week $ 21,038.00 Faith Direct weekly giving (265 families) $ 7,914.00 Collection needed for Budget $ 28,183.00 Weekly Difference $ 769.00 ‘15 - ’16 Collected YTD ‘15 - ’16 Budgeted ’15 -’16 YTD Difference $ 135,335.00 $ 104,453.00 $ 30,882.00 Memorials received: $150 to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in memory of Daniel Martin Living Catholic Stewardship The city of Ephesus was one of St. Paul’s major centers of operation. Many scholars consider it to be the most theologically sound of all his letters. One of Paul’s major purposes in writing it was to make clear to the Gentiles that they have been brought together with the Jews in the Body of Christ. Unity is important. In the interest of Christian unity Paul includes an important piece of advice in today’s Second Reading: “All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.” The idea of forgiveness is so important to us if we truly wish to be Christians and good stewards. Most of us understand that we need to be forgiven, but that does not make it any easier for us to forgive. Yet, that is at the basis of our ability to be unified and loving in the way Paul advises. See more at: http://www.thecatholicsteward.com Archbishop Bergan School Tuition Assistance Fund: A portion of the funds returned to St. Patrick’s/Archbishop Bergan, $3000, from the Archbishop’s Ignite the Faith Campaign has been used to help establish a nonendowed tuition assistance fund. The trustee of the Harold E. Willey Trust, James Morrison, has also made a generous gift to help establish this Fund. The Fund has been created using the Fremont Area Community Foundation as administrator, and is currently available to receive tax deductible contributions. If you are interested in receiving further information, please contact the Parish Office. Living Catholic Stewardship (cont. from the left) million mortgage on the elementary building. Through your faith and support we managed to completely pay off that line-of-credit, and we are on pace to reduce the mortgage to $2.68 million at the end 2015. Thank you for demonstrating a true sense of Stewardship and Community. Now is the time for us to renew this campaign and help eliminate the remaining debt associated with the construction of the Elementary School, while also establishing a reserve fund which will allow us options if presented with cash flow issues in the future.
