Enrichment [NGHE] is excited to offer more learning opportunities than ever before to homeschooling
families.
For the fall 2016 semester, NGHE continues to expand its STEAM (Science/ Technology/ Engineering/
Arts/Mathematics) classes. Here are just a few from the new class line-up:
* Dissect This! (for every grade level!)
* Drones! Drones! Drones!
* Big Brains! Engineering Challenge
* AFA CyberPatriot Competition
* CSI Forensics
Some other great new classes that can be found in the expansed course catalog include:
* All Fired Up! Clay and Glass Fusion
* Songmaker Symposium
* Elite Tumblers and Cheerleading & Beyond!
* Young Mavericks - Entrepreneur Academy (like Shark Tank!)
* and, much more!
What an amazing opportunity and honor it is be homeschooling “for such a time as this”! These
sentiments were overwhelmingly felt during the development of the 92-course catalog that follows (the

During this course, students get a rare opportunity to be part of the Air Force Association's National
Youth Cyber Defense Competition! The competition puts teams of high school and middle school
students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small
company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent
operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and
hardening the system while maintaining critical services. AFA

Sunday to complete the challenge. These will occur off site in another location than North Lanier
Baptist Church. In Algebra, students develop algebraic fluency by learning the skills needed to solve equations and
perform manipulations with numbers, variables, equations, and inequalities. They also learn
concepts central to the abstraction and generalization that algebra makes possible. Students learn
to use number properties to simplify expressions or justify statements; describe sets with set
notation and find the union and intersection of sets; simplify and evaluate expressions involving
variables, fractions, exponents, and radicals; work with integers, rational numbers, and irrational
numbers; and graph and solve equations, inequalities, and systems of equations. Algebra

There is an amazing opportunity through youth sports to teach kids how to succeed in life. In
Basketball and Beyond!, students are challenged to redefine society’s mainstream ideas of what it
means to be successful (i.e. wealth, fame, etc.) and establish more value-based aspirations,
standards, and life principles. In the process, students also receive the training to become better
basketball players, regardless of skill level. Anyone who enjoys the game or could benefit from
building life-skills is encouraged to participate.

This class empowers students to learn more about the exciting world of 3D design and printing;
from the design stage to a finished object. Students design, model and print their ideas and
creations. Students learn about designs concepts while navigating 3D software. The skills gained in
this class teach students to quickly design, develop and test new ideas. Many industries already
utilize 3D printing including: engineering, prototyping, doctors, dentists, biomedical companies and
artists. This is an amazing opportunity for your student to get a head start on the future!
Each student has a choice of color for the filament (PLA) to be used on their designs. Students must

Cheerleading is a huge part of sporting events at all levels of play. When athletes need
encouragement and fans need entertainment, cheerleaders can take sports experiences to another
level by adding excitement and spirit to any sports event, and it is great physical fitness!

In Chefmaster!, students focus on “why” foods are prepared the way they are, what history may
exist behind the food or method of cooking and begin creating associations to which the students
may relate. The two-hour long class delves into the science of cooking and teaches why food reacts
the way it does in different situations and what the best approach is to obtaining the desired results.
While continuing to stress kitchen safety and healthy choices, students math skills are also
challenged by measurement (both weight and volume), as well as reading and understanding
directions. Basic chemistry and biology of food reaction are introduced, such as what makes bread
rise or why different temperatures are chosen for different foods or methods of cooking.

KITCHEN
Many opportunities for experimentation are offered at this level. Students are encouraged to
experience different flavor and texture combinations and put their own spin on recipes. Advanced
cutting (including knives suitable for purpose and knife safety are taught. Some kitchen tools used

Cursive writing is so essential, yet is vastly becoming a lost art. It doesn’t matter how a student is; if
they know manuscript writing, they should also know cursive writing. How else can students read
important documents in their original cursive format (such as the Declaration of Independence- so
vital to our country’s beginnings!). Studies show that when students have good handwriting, they
have improved memory retention, improved creativity and improved focus! Who doesn’t want that?!
Macauley, C.
Students learn cursive writing with letter families that build on one another. This course uses the
modified American style of cursive writing, but uses its own unique process to teach cursive easily
and in a fun way. Students practice their cursive writing with Bible verses and even turn their
penmanship into gifts of love for others at the end of the semester. $130/$10

Kickboxing provides a high-energy class that allows the students to have fun while working out.
Each class differs and focuses on strengthening a different set of muscles- abdominal, arms, or legs
during each class. All kickboxing classes include cardio-vascular training, stretching, and resistance
training end with a focus on deep-breathing and stretching. This class utilizes plyometric exercises,
basic calisthenics, and throws in several rounds of combinations of kicks and punches on targets. These classes are designed to improve every aspect of fitness and athletic ability no matter what
the experience level. Beginners to advanced students are welcomed. This is for fitness only and
students do not physically contact each other. Kitchen Science

Many times students get into a discussion with someone with whom gave reasons that were wrong
but they didn’t know why. Other times, students listened to politicians and knew what they were
saying didn’t line up, but they couldn’t quite put their finger on why. In these cases, students have
most likely encountered a “fallacy” (an illogical argument).

In this class, students learn to identify different types of fallacies such as the bandwagon, the red
herring, ad hominem, and many more. Students play fun games, such as” table football”, “pin the
band on the wagon”, and "find the red herring"! There are lots of ways to get tricked and even more
ways to learn how to combat those tricks with logic! So whether students are a logician, an actor, or
an artist, this class has very unique and exciting ways to learn how to fend off those fallacies!

Excitement about the real world makes young students eager to develop their mathematical
knowledge. In Math Mastery, connections are continually made to mathematical concepts previously
learned and to their life experiences. This is a supplementary course for students looking to be
challenged for a strong foundation in arithmetic. Topics include hands-on learning and applying math skills in everyday life for grades 3-4. Students
learn together and work up some excitement for math in the "real world". Math topics include word
problems, logical reasoning, measurement, geometry, spatial thinking, probability, statistics,

math doesn’t have to be boring. By the end of the year, students master the utilization of number
sense concepts, develop automaticity of all basic math operations, gather, interpret and apply
measurement, analyze and apply geometric concepts, and begin to explore algebraic expressions. **This is a year-long course.**
Math Mosaics: Algebra offers a unique, proven way to introduce algebra to students. New concepts
are explained in simple language, and examples are easy to follow. Word problems relate algebra to
familiar situations, helping students understand abstract concepts. Students develop understanding
by solving equations and inequalities intuitively before formal solutions are introduced.
Math Mosaics:

Students begin their study of algebra using only integers. Next, they discover rational numbers and
expressions. Later lessons extend coverage to the real number system.

these finished works, but they are a useful biographical tool. Once can actually see examples of
