Nescopeck State Park
Nescopeck State Park - Three inactive, illegal dumpsites were properly
removed by hired contractor, Gary Fronk Excavating. The dumpsites
consisted of two old foundations filled with concrete block and trash
and a third, an abandoned hunting cabin. The blocks were considered
clean fill and used to fill in the foundations, which were then graded
and seeded to blend with the natural surroundings. Scrap metal from
the dumpsites was recycled. Nescopeck State Park personnel were
on hand to assist during the cleanup.
Bordered on the south by Mount Yeager and on the north by
Nescopeck Mountain, the 3,550-acre Nescopeck State Park
encompasses wetlands, rich forests, and many diverse habitats. It
offers 19 miles of trails for hiking and cross-country skiing. Lake
Francis and Nescopeck Creek offer trout, bass, and panfish fishing. Six
miles of Nescopeck Creek are designated as a high quality, cold-water
fishery. A year-round environmental education center also offers
programs on the park’s unique and valuable ecosystems. Nescopeck
State Park is a true Pennsylvania gem!
