1411-1 Wire
Wire is a toolbox staple that's taking center stage in
every type of jewelry design, from rings to bracelets to
necklaces. Here’s one of my favorite wire weaving
techniques.
Customizing your jewelry is easy! Katie combined
Katiedids™ Creative Components with wire-wrapped
links in this statement necklace.
Materials
Oval frame
15 assorted 4-6x9mm crystal beads
24-gauge Artistic Wire
Nylon jaw pliers
Wire cutters
Instructions for the weaving technique
1. Cut a 6” piece of wire and wrap one end
over and around the edge of a wire frame in
a tight coil.
Crystals and colored wire play well together!
Choose your favorite color palette or flip through
the pages of Beadwork or Stringing magazine for
inspiration. The color combination shown here is
one of Katie’s favorites. It was inspired by Monet’s
water lilies painting.
2. Pass through a crystal or two, and then wrap
the wire under and around the opposite edge
of the frame.
3. Continue wrapping over/under, adding 1-3
beads on each pass. Nestle the beads
together within the frame.
4. When you reach the end of the oval, wrap
the wire in a tight coil around the oval’s
edge.
5. Trim off any extra wire, then use nylon jaw
pliers to press firmly on the coiled wire.
