Bookawocky: A Celebration of Summer Reading
Teen Summer Reading Program
June 9 - August 12, 2012
Get reading this summer with Bookawocky, a celebration of summer
reading!
All you have to do is read a book and tell us what you think of it. Go
to the library's website, www.rclreads.org/teens, and fill out our
*NEW* online review slip to enter
into a weekly prize drawing. You
can enter as many reviews as you
like and there are no limits on prizes. Your reviews will be posted in
our library catalog and the best
ones will be featured on Ramsey
County Library's website each
week! Open to ages 12 through 19.
Join us as we kick off the Summer Reading Program on Saturday,
June 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library in Roseville. Hang out in the
teen room all afternoon with a live DJ and gaming, but be sure to
come back at 7 p.m. for a night like no other when the Upper
Midwest Professional Wrestlers bring the smackdown to the library!
“Bookawocky” is sponsored by the Friends of the
Ramsey County Libraries, Metropolitan Library
Service Agency (MELSA) and Flaherty's Arden Bowl.

Parent Resources
Studies show that one of the best activities a parent
can do is read with their child. Reading together
strengthens the parent/child relationship, promotes
academic success and develops communication skills.
While the act of reading is important, what parents
read to their children is just as important.
Tami Lee,
Selecting books with positive, accurate depictions of
Children’s Librarian
different cultures and ethnicities can help children be
more comfortable with themselves and their communities. Books that
depict a multitude of cultures allow children to develop an understanding of others, while giving affirmation to children of diverse backgrounds. Choosing books that show people from diverse backgrounds
playing, working and problem-solving together help children understand that even despite differences, all people share common feelings,
hopes and dreams.
Ramsey County Library strives to offer a wide variety of materials that
reflect the cultural diversity of our community. Your children’s librarian
would be happy to help you find multicultural materials for your child,
including book lists, picture books, music and electronic resources.
