* The Joiner’s fee is a one-time fee as long as you
stay a member. If you cancel and rejoin you must
repay this fee. **Includes all dependents claimed on
income tax return.
COLLEGE STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
$25 PER MONTH plus joiners fee of $10. Students must
have a minimum of 9 credit hours a semester. Must
provide a photo I.D. and official school transcript. Joiner’s
fee will be waived with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Membership cards are issued to all members eight
years of age or older upon completion of application
and full payment of dues. All members eight and up
must present their membership card when using the
facility or registering for a program or class.
There is a $5 charge for replacing cards.
If you are a YMCA member in good standing, you may
phone-in a program registration with the exception of
Childcare, provided there are still openings in the
Program and current credit card is on file. For Online
Registration, an e-mail must be registered at the YMCA. All
programs, with the exception of Childcare, can Register
Online. We cannot guarantee a space will be available

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE POLICY
The Hammond Family YMCA wants everyone to enjoy
its programs and services. Adult and family members
who are unable to pay the full cost of YMCA
membership may apply for reduced fees. The YMCA
will not turn anyone away due to inability to pay. A
Financial Assistance application and last year’s IRS
tax returns must be presented. This process is
required to be done annually. Failure to comply will
result in automatic cancellation. Please contact Jimmy
Gonzales, Associate Director at ext. 228 for
membership assistance.

Children 11 years and under must have a parent or
guardian with them in the building. The Hammond
Family YMCA is a “programmed” facility, meaning the
time we spend with children is scheduled. We
encourage the use of our facility (Open Gym, Open
Swim, and Open Recreation) by our youth members;
however, we do not provide staff supervision for
these times and recommend that you enroll your child
in one of our many programs if he or she plans on
being at the YMCA for longer than two hours.

For everyone’s safety and well-being, children ages
12-17 who are left at the YMCA for the day without
being enrolled in a specific program may be
considered neglected. We reserve the right to contact
the proper authorities.
HOLIDAY CLOSING
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES PROGRAM
For youths 6-14 yrs. of age: Activity Coordinator will
conduct age appropriate activities for above age
children who are not in programs while their parents
are using the facility. Hours of operation are Monday
thru Friday, 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Children 5 years of age and under may use Kid’s Zone
Babysitting up to 3 hours as long as a parent is in
the facility (e.g. exercising in fitness center, watching
another child participate in sports or aquatic classes,
etc.). FAMILY/YOUTH MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.
IN ALL CASES, YOUTH MUST LEAVE THE FACILITY BY
8:00 P.M. UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT.

LOCKER ROOMS
The YMCA is not responsible for your personal
belongings. Members are urged to use locks on their
lockers. We suggest not bringing valuables of any kind.
If you choose to use one of the free daily lockers, your
belongings must be removed upon leaving the facility
for the day. Belongings left in the locker or locks left
on daily lockers will be removed at the end of the day
– contents will be held for 2 weeks then discarded.

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Individual medical insurance is NOT provided by the
Hammond Family YMCA. Individuals are responsible for
their own medical costs arising from injuries while
participating in YMCA activities.
DRESS CODE POLICY
Use of Family Locker Rooms by opposite sex children is
restricted to age 5 and under when accompanied by a
parent. If assistance is needed for children 6 years and
older, it is suggested that the two Special Needs
Locker Rooms be used.
Garments that have pictures and/or writing that are
vulgar, suggestive, indecent or otherwise offensive or
that allude to drugs, alcoholic drinks or gang
involvement are not allowed. Shirts and shoes must be
worn in building. Individuals are not permitted to dress
in a manner that’s unsafe or disrupts the mission of
the Hammond Family YMCA. Members who do not
follow the dress code policy will be required to leave
the building. Continual abuse of the policy will result in
membership suspension or cancellation. Workout
clothing and hygiene items should be carried in a gym
bag.
RENTAL LOCKERS
Y - RACQUETBALL COURT POLICY
FAMILY & SPECIAL NEEDS LOCKER ROOMS
A limited number of rental lockers are available in the
Adult Locker Rooms. Please contact the Front Desk for
details. Fees: $75.00 per year or $6.25 on a monthly
bank draft.
PROGRAM REFUNDS
Program fees are refundable only in the form of a system
credit if the YMCA cancels the class. System credits are
given for doctor substantiated reasons and then only for the
portion of the fees unused after written notification. No
refunds or credits will be given for classes or sessions not
held due to “acts of God” such as severe weather, power
failure, fire, etc... for questions please call the Associate
Director.
1. All court times are reserved in one hour increments.
Court must be relinquished upon expiration of
reserved time. Court may be reserved up to two (2)
days in advance. If court is reserved the same day no charge for reservation. If court is reserved one
or two days in advance a $5.00 fee will be charged.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
2. Children ages 13 and under are permitted on the
court with a parent.
3. Racquetball court is to be used for racquetball &
handball only! No other sport activities may use the
racquetball court.
4. Shirts and proper gym shoes must be worn at all
times. Protective eyewear is highly recommended.

CHILD CARE
KID’S ZONE
Kid’s Zone offers a babysitting service for the convenience of our members while they are working
out or participating in a program. Our qualified staff provides a safe, clean and friendly environment
to ensure both parents and children have an enjoyable time while at the Y.

Children must be no younger than three months and not older than five.
•
Staff will not be responsible for bottle feeding, snacks or diaper changes.
•
Parents must sign their children in and out of Kid’s Zone.
•
Parents must be in the building at all times while children are in Kid’s Zone.
•
There is a three hour limit to babysitting in Kid’s Zone. ( Note: the parent that signs the child
in must sign the child out & provide membership tag number)
•
Family or youth membership is required for free babysitting service.

No food in Kid Zone.

CHILD CARE
Hammond Branch YMCA School Age Child Care
The Hammond Branch YMCA offers convenient, affordable, safe and dependable childcare for
working parents in schools throughout Hammond. Before and After School Care is offered for
children in grades K-5. Care is offered on school vacation days for grades K-8 at the Hammond
Branch YMCA. In case of an emergency school closing, the YMCA facility will provide childcare for
that day. In the event of a delay, care will be provided at the school site. Program curriculum
includes: games, arts & crafts, nutritional and character development and homework assistance.
Free dinners are being offered for our students as well.

School Vacation Days and Extended Day Care
Childcare is provided during school vacation days and holidays when school is not in session.
Children are provided with a snack. Parents must provide their child with breakfast and lunch on
these days. Daily activities include enrichment activities, special events, swimming and much more.
Childcare is provided at the Hammond Branch YMCA. SNOW DAYS POLICY: In case of an emergency
school closing, the YMCA facility will provide childcare for that day. In the event of a delay, care will
be provided at the school site.

DISCOVERY PRESCHOOL
Our Discovery Preschool program is planned and based on a set of beliefs that children learn best
from hands – on activities. We believe that learning needs to be active. Our Discovery Preschool
program provides the tools and activities for the children to experiment while promoting our four
core values that include: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The thing that makes our
program unique is that swimming is included at our YMCA branch location.

Theatre Class
Participants in our Theatre Class will be taught script reading,
audition preparation, non-verbal communication, voice diction,
and character building. We also offer a Special Needs Class.
Teaching these techniques and rehearsal will be provided
every class by our instructor Gary Wilson. Classes run in
monthly sessions.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar or electronic keyboard? We offer one on one

Ballet
Dancers age 3 to 7 years old will explore the world of ballet during this five-week program. Students
will learn ballet terms, basic steps and simple choreography as they develop grace, discipline and
poise. The focus of the class will be on developing confidence and discovering the joy of movement.

(T.S.T.)Teen Strength Training
Teen Strength Training is an extensive, five-week Fitness Center orientation and introduction to
weight training. The program is open to boys and girls ages 12 to 14. The course includes
information on aerobic exercise, stretching and weight training as well as an overview of major
muscles and their joint actions. Other topics covered include the dangers of steroid use and the
importance of proper nutrition. The operation of equipment in the Fitness Center will be
demonstrated. After successful completion of this class, graduates will receive a T.S.T. T-shirt and
will be permitted to use the Fitness Center. There is a maximum of six students per session, so sign
up early to reserve your spot. A minimum of three students must be registered prior to the start date
for the session to be conducted.

Home School P.E.
At the Y, nurturing the potential of every child and teen is our focus. Our program is available for
homeschooled youth ages 6-14. One hour is devoted to gym games and exercise and the other hour
is devoted to swim class. In order to provide families a broad range of options, the Crossroads
YMCA branches have partnered together. This gives home school students a chance to attend all
three classes during the week. All branches will run on a 5 week session schedule and will offer the

Welcome to the YMCA Aquatics
Department
The goal of the Hammond Branch’s Aquatics Department is to provide a positive aquatic experience.
We help build self – esteem through accomplishments, develop awareness of safety through practice

OPEN SWIM TESTING:
Swim testing is one of the most efficient ways to minimize potential incidents.

Boy/Girl Scouts Water Badge Program – Learn and Earn
Scouts can earn their water badges with the Hammond Aquatics Staff. The program is designed to
accommodate the skills needed for your troop to earn their swimming and/or water safety badges. Staff has
been trained to administer the testing for merit badges, swim test, for camp and the BSA lifesaving badge. This

This course is the great workout for all ages. A class that is safe, effective and a challenging waterbased workout, which integrates a combination of salsa dancing and hip hop while learning aqua
fitness disciplines.
Don’t be fooled, this is not your normal aqua class. The moves are intense. Remember, you will be
moving your bodies for 45 minutes against the resistance of water. The movements are challenging
and you can really feel the muscles working against the resistance.

Finally, your own personal trainer! By simply making an appointment, you can arrange to have your
very own personal workout partner. This qualified individual will tailor your workout, spot you
through your free-weight program, and assist you with stretching routines while encouraging you to
attain your exercise goals. Our personal trainers are certified by AFAA, ACE, or the YMCA. Please
pick up a packet at the Welcome Center. MEMBERS ONLY. Doctor’s clearance may be required.

Physical activity helps to combat stress, increase your energy level, improve your attitude, help manage your
weight, and makes it easier to complete your normal activities. The YMCA has always recognized the benefits
of exercise. Our wellness staff can help you get more physically active and live a healthier life. Classes are
scheduled in 5-week sessions. Most classes are free to members. Nonmembers can take these classes but
must pay a fee. Members must pay additional fees for HIT and other specialty classes. Nonmembers may
enroll in these classes at a higher rate or pay a “Drop-In Fee” of $7 per class. Specialty classes are not eligible

Tabata Tuesday
Tabata Tuesday is an energetic blend of cardio and toning moves. Tabata timing is a proven interval

weights and cardio moves, each Tabata round allows you to push yourself to your best effort.

Y Wellness Walkers**
You can walk your way to fitness! The benefits of regular brisk walking include reaching or
