Preschool: Mrs. Angulo
In Preschool we were richly blessed
during Week of Prayer (April 7-11) with the
awesome Pastor Jessie preaching her
theme of “IDENTITY.” Pastor Jessie also
spent her time with us involved in our daily
routine. That was simply wonderful.
We also had other important visit to our
classroom: Christelle's mom, Mrs. Jacob.
As we are talking about community helpers/
workers, Mrs. Jacob came to give us a nice
presentation about being a nurse. She
talked to us about what she does in the
hospital and how she helps doctors and
people as well. She also gave us some tips
about staying healthy and finally had a cute
"doctor's kit" treat for each student. In our
classroom we are spending our time
playing with tactile but educational
games to reinforce everything we have
learned before, especially basic concepts
they must know, like numbers, colors,
shapes, and the alphabet.
We are now in the letter "R" of the
alphabet. We learned that rainbow, rabbit,
rooster, and raccoon all begin with the
letter "R". The students also are working
with their names, making a puzzle,
recognizing each letter, and counting how
many letters their names have. I hope
before the school year finish they can spell
their names by themselves.
In Bible, we walked about Hannah and
Samson. Each one is completely different
each other, but we learned how God's
compassion works in an awesome way in
our lives.
I encourage you to please continue to
practicing with your child every single day,
everywhere you are, and read different
books together.
Happy Sabbath, have a lot of fun over
Spring Break, and God Bless you!
Pre-Kindergarten: Ms. Norton
The past couple of weeks in Pre-K we
have been talking about miracles that Jesus
performed and how much He loves
children. It's amazing how His disciples
could tell the small children that Jesus as
busy. Thankfully Jesus turned around and
told the disciples that He wanted to see the
children and to let them come hear His
stories! We've also been talking about the
word "missionaries." Jesus has called each
of us to be missionaries. Sometime when
we hear that word we think of someone that
goes to a far country, but that's not always
the case. You can be a missionary in your
neighborhood to those people around you.

We've been reviewing many things we
have been doing throughout the school
year. It's always important to review what we
have learned in order to keep it fresh in our
minds. We are always very excited to put
our knowledge to work! We are looking
forward to building words with some of the
letters we have been learning!
Have a wonderful weekend and a
Happy Sabbath!

MEMORY VERSES: "Faith means being
sure of the things we hope for. And faith
means knowing that something is real even
if we do not see it." Hebrews 11:1-2
"Without faith no one can please God."
Hebrews 11:6
BIBLE: Faith means understanding and
doing the right thing (Abel). Faith means
not wanting to live apart from God (Enoch).
Faith means believing what God says and
doing what God asks (Noah). Faith means
knowing that God is all-powerful (Roman
officer in Capernaum).
LANGUAGE ARTS: We have been
working on the letters Ll, Kk, Vv, and Ee.
Ask your child what sounds each letter
makes and what words begin with that
sound. Practice writing L l K k V v E e. NEW
SIGHT WORDS: her, like, make, some,
would.
MATH: PRE-KINDERGARTEN: We
c o n t i n u e d w o r k i n g w i t h p a t t e r n s
and recognizing the numbers 1 to 20.
KINDERGARTEN: We are learning what 2
numbers put together add up to 6, 7, 8,
and 9. Practice this at home by putting 6, 7,
8, and 9 objects together and having your
child separate them into two groups and
writing the addition sentences, for
example, 2 + 4 = 6, 6 + 1 = 7, 3 + 5 = 8, 4 +
5 = 9.
SCIENCE: We have been learning
about life on the prairie when the European
settlers first came to this new land. Look at
the picture of our prairie children!
First Grade: Mrs. Cristian
This week in Math we have been
learning about tens and ones. In Science we
have been learning about what clouds are
and what they are made of. Also we have
been learning what to do in order to stay
safe in bad weather conditions. In Social
Studies we have been learning about
landforms and bodies of waters for
example: lakes, rivers, oceans, plains,
mountains, and hills. In Language we have
been learning about the different
components of a sentence: for example the
naming part of the sentence and the action
part of the sentence. The students are also
working on a poem about nature that will
be displayed at camp meeting. We also
celebrated a birthday. Happy Birthday
Guilherme! Over the break please have

your child read. It is important that your
child practices reading to become fluent.
Also, please have them review what we
have been learning in chapter 6 in Math:
counting and writing up to 120, counting

Second Grade: Mrs. O’Geare
In Language Arts we are have started
our theme on the environment and are
reading the book Will We Miss Them? It is
beautifully illustrated and was written by an
11 year old who explores some of the
animals that are endangered and the
reasons they are. The students were happy
to learn that the bald eagle is not bald, but
are called bald because they look that way
from a distance.
In Bible we are talking about some of
Jesus’ miracles. The students learned how
important it is to say thank you from the
story of the Ten Lepers and the importance
of sharing in the Feeding of the 5,000. We
learned that it is more of a blessing to give
than to receive.
We have completed chapter 5 in
Science and have learned about germs and
are doing all we can not to spread germs by
practicing good healthy habits. We learned
that brushing for two minutes at least twice
per day and flossing can prevent cavities.
We also learned how to stay safe while
walking on the streets and what to do in an
emergency. Some of the children do not
know their address and telephone
numbers. This information is very important
in an emergency.
In chapter 8 Math we are learning
about inches and how to use an inch ruler.
We learned how many inches make a foot,
how to estimate the lengths of different

objects in our classroom, how to choose
the best measuring tools when measuring
lengths and how to convert from feet to
inches by using the number of feet and
guessing what the sum of that many 12s
would be.
We are in need of disinfectant, wipes
and kleenex in our classroom. If you have
not helped with these items yet and you
are able to, it would be greatly
appreciated. Remind your child to log on
to Raz Kids each night and keep reading.
Next book report is due on Monday, May
5.
Thanks to all the parents who
contributed and helped at the food festival.
It was a great time of fellowship and great
tasting food. If you were not able to attend
Parent/Teacher Conference last week
please make an appointment to see me as
soon as possible. The students have two
projects to work on over the break. One is
an endangered animal and one is a
diorama. They also have Bible and Science
homework. Please check folders for more
details. Also remember that tutoring is
available for your child every Wednesday.
Call the office for more information. The
Student of the Month for March is Anabelle
Mendes. Congratulations Anabelle! Keep
up the good work.
Have a great and safe Spring break!!!!
Third Grade: Mrs. Cook
Happy Spring Greater Boston Academy! What a lovely time of
year it is. The students have really been looking forward to Spring
Break next week.
We have been enjoying learning so many things in class. The
students have been studying about animals in science, calendar
and time in social studies, area and perimeter in math, and the
Bible story of the ten lepers and the one who came back to say
thank you.
In Literacy, the students are reading about the first seeing eye
dog. They have also been doing research and projects on a special
animal. We were so excited to see the first crocus coming up in the
flower beds around the flag.
Even though it has gotten colder outside, spring is here and
with it a cheerful spirit in the air. Love and smiles from the third
grade class. Have a great Sabbath and Spring Break, friends. April 18, 2014

Fourth and Fifth Grades: Mr. Gowasack
By Carlus Alves (fifth grade)
This week, the 5th grade has been
learning about negative numbers and
positive numbers. Also this week, the 4th
grade has been learning about different
kinds of angles like acute angles and right
angles. They have also been learning about
types of shapes.
In Social Studies we have been leaning
about when the American colonists struck
back against the British and the American
Revolution.
In reading, we have been publishing
our own books and almost half of our class
has finished publishing.
If have you not made a appointment
with Mr. Gowasack to see how your kid is
doing and their grades, please do so as
soon as possible. Have a great Spring
Break.
Sixth and Seventh Grades: Mr. Byas
By Marcus Alves (seventh grade) and Daniel Cortes (seventh grade)
Good afternoon GBA. Thank God it’s
Friday!!! We had a fantastic week with our
substitute teacher Ms. Sarita Ago while Mr.
Byas is with 8th grade class on their trip to
Washington, DC. In Bible we are learning
about Paul and how warned the Christians
that the early churches were going to stand
up and persecute the Christians. In Science,
we are learning about astronomy and the
universe. We are learning about the
different types of telescopes and things that
are amazing about outer space. We are
reading the book “Heartbeat.” The book is
about a girl and her pregnant mother. We
are at the part where the baby is about to
come out. We had fun without Mr. Byas, but
we hope he comes back safely. Everyone
have a good vacation! Have fun and have a
wonderful Sabbath! God Bless!

Mathematics
Bible
Throughout this week math classes are buzzing with learning
new concepts at different levels – from converting word problems
into proportions then solving them, to how to calculate volume of
different solids, i.e. trapezoid, cone, pyramid, and cylinder (all of
which comes in different shapes), to factoring and solving
polynomials, to solving rational polynomials and identifying
excluded values, to solving problems on Pythagorean Theorem
Converse, to Trig functions & inverse functions and identities.
It is refreshing to see regulars at our Tuesdays and Thursdays
after school sessions. Please keep this habit going and KUDOS! to
all of you who come faithfully.
Students in Bible II & III have been working diligently on some
very thought provoking topics. Bible II has been continuing their
Church History journey and have arrived at the establishment of the
Catholic church. Students have been very intrigued with the
concept of how God followed and blessed the church to what it is
today. Bible III has been continuing their study of the book of
Romans and have been really dealing with heavy concepts like
Righteousness, Human Sin, and Salvation. In class this week we
discussed the simplicity in Salvation from John 3:16 by Mr. Purba
by Mr. Ayala
Science
History and English
This week, our Earth Science (10th Grade) students have taken
on the challenge of recreating our outdoor classroom and worship
area. This area has not been usable, and for the most part
forgotten, after a series of winter storms that knocked down several
trees along the edge of our campus. Although we will not rebuild
the trail that once led from this area, it will be great to have a spot
where teachers can take their students to learn of nature and to
worship outdoors. This week has been very exciting for the literature and history
students. In English 1 the freshman are learning about
autobiographies, and how they are different from memoirs.
The sophomores are reading and discussing the themes of
How to Kill a Mockingbird in World Literature, and learning about
the Middle Ages in World History. "I've always been a history geek,
so I enjoy learning about the different time periods. It makes me
feel like I am stepping into another world," said Sarah Cabral,
sophomore.
The juniors are learning about the Civil War in American
History, and examining the Gettysburg Address in American
Literature.
In English Literature, the seniors are learning about
romanticism. Senior Rodney Bruno says, "I found the definition of
romanticism interesting because it opened my eyes to other
concepts."
