If you are above age 70 1/2 and you have money invested in an IRA, you are allowed to give up to $100,000 to a charity in 2013. Your spouse can give an equal amount from his/her IRA. By making the gift directly from the IRA to Hillsboro (or other qualifying charity or a combination of charities), you avoid having to pay any tax on the distribution, and the charity receives the benefit of the full withdrawal. Please consult your financial advisor about your own situation. If you wish to make such a transfer, call Barbara Fox in the church office (665-0014) for details of how to make the transfer. Remember that we have the option of making our contributions—regular or Vision of Faith—by automatic bank draft. If you are interested, information is available in the office.
