Today, his legacy lives on through the energy of the
many causes he has supported over the years and
through the efforts of his wife, Rachel, and daughter,
Coral. Together, they have agreed to support the
Charles E. Grout Memorial Golf Tournament as
tribute to a man so dedicated to the quality of life
for so many people in our area.
With the funds raised from this event sponsored
in memory of Mr. Grout, the Clark Memorial YMCA
will continue to improve the quality of life for many
children and families in our community. On behalf
of the Clark Memorial YMCA and the many people
served each day, please join us in thanking the Grout

The late Charles E. Grout,
World War II Veteran,
Veteran
Advocate
and
local icon, passed away on
September 20, 2003, at
the age of 85, leaving a
void in the complexion of
the community. A kind and
generous man who devoted
so much to the community
through his volunteer efforts
through the American Legion
Post 193 where he held every
office at least once since his affiliation began in
1945; to his involvement with the American Legion
Beano Committee who have supported so many
Clark and community endeavors over the years;
to his commitment to Town Government as Town
Moderator, Chair of the Finance Committee, and
acting Town Clerk and Town Manager at different
times; and through his church, Mr. Grout has set
numerous examples to inspire all of us to become
more involved in our community. Mr. Grout received many awards and various levels of
recognition for his years of community involvement,
including the Massachusetts Veterans Service
Agents’ Association President’s Award(1998) and
the Clark Memorial YMCA’s Community Service
Award (1979) and the Aims and Goals Award (1987),
to name just a few.
