untouched Alpine landscapes and ample glacier regions. Stone pine tree populations, rockslide and waterfall areas are as well an important part of the Nature Park.
Engelswand rock face, awarded “Natura 2000 Area” and Tirolean Nature Preserve,
stands for an unrivaled habitat of rare Alpine fauna and flora perfectly adapted to the
harsh living conditions.
The 5 main aims of the Ötztal Nature Park are to preserve nature and landscapes,

WAALWEG WATER WALKS
Man-made irrigation ditches for watering the meadows and fields were called
“Waale” in the Ötztal Valley. Still today they are forming the Alpine landscape. Many
of these old water routes decayed as they require a lot of maintenance work, but a
few are still intact or have been reactivated successfully.

in Ötztal
FAMILIES
Walking tours and hiking routes made to measure for families and children. The trails
are fairly easy and suitable for the youngest walkers while little adventures add to a
fabulous day in the outdoors.
HUTS
The fascinating mountain world of the Ötztal Alps attracts mountain hikers and alpinists from around the world. Already 150 years ago the Alpine Association started
to build Alpine infrastructures like mountain trails and refuge huts. Varied serviced
mountain huts can be found in Ötztal up to 3000 m above sea level, either traditional
stone buildings or modern wooden huts. Hikers and alpinists enjoy all comforts:
lodging, picture-book views, local specialties and quaint hut atmosphere.
Recommended tour 1: ALMZEIT Family Theme Hiking Trail - Discover the infinite
variety of Sölden’s pasturelands, mountain huts and Alpine meadows with all senses.
Information boards provide interesting details, typical specialties are served in the huts
and exciting attractions promise a wonderful ALMZEIT day for all the family.
More detailed information at www.oetztal.com/huetten-verzeichnis

Recommended tour 2: Acherkogel Mountain Gondola ride up to Hochoetz. From the
top station on a comfy and easy trail to Balbach Alm. Walking time: 45 min – then back
to the WIDIVERSUM, the hike’s main attraction next to the Acherkogel top station.
Little explorers enjoy WIDIs Mountain & Water Worlds incl. a giant woolen hop ball,
quicksand and mud area, rafts, rodeo sheep and a lot more.
PASTURELANDS
The cultivation of Alpine pasturelands has a long tradition in Tirol. During the summer months the cattle are driven to the high Alpine meadows where regional dairy
specialties are produced. The Ötztal valley boasts a huge number of quaint little huts
deeply rooted in history as well as top modern mountain inns where hikers can stay
overnight, snack stations or entire Alpine holiday villages. The marvelous ALMZEIT
Theme Hiking Trail gives an insight into Ötztal’s huge choice of typical huts and
pasturelands. A highlight not to be missed, especially for families.
