A year in review from the Board President and Executive Director:
Over the past five years, there has been a consistent commitment on the part of the
Humane Society of Elkhart County to take a leadership role in nonprofit management
and community engagement. Therefore, we were pleased to receive the Better
Business Bureau’s Torch Award for Marketplace Trust. This reflects the efforts of
the board, staff, volunteers and the executive director to bring professionalism and
community responsiveness to the forefront of the organization’s work.
Increasing humanitarian approaches to animal concerns require broader community
involvement. The Humane Society continues to provide leadership in advancing
animal welfare causes and in supporting and educating other groups to take bolder
measures to be effective in addressing varied issues. Nothing is accomplished by
one group alone. However, our collective voices make a difference in dealing with
hoarding, animal abuse and neglect, educating those who lack the capacity to be
informed and responsible pet owners and creating a community that understands our
human responsibility to “all creatures great and small.”
In 2013, over 8,800 animals’ lives were impacted by the services provided through
the Humane Society. Our vision for the future will expand our network and education
capabilities for even greater impact.
The mission for this organization remains steadfast in “promoting respect and
responsibility for all animals and to the prevention of suffering and neglect through
education, public service and adoption.” It’s a huge responsibility. We ask for your
voice, your time, your talent, your treasures and your passion to support us now and
in the future as we continue to meet the challenges that lie ahead.
