F. KEITH DREIER, GRAND MASTER
F. KEITH DREIER
Grand Master
Brothers, we have reached that time of year
when each of us has a greater good in mind. The
month of December is a special month for everyone as we approach that special day of the year and
a new beginning.
Why is it that in the month of December every
person has a bigger smile, a greater feeling for
mankind? What is so different than the other
eleven months of the year? Is it that we are too
busy to stop and REACH OUT TO A BROTHER?
Our fraternity teaches us to help those in need.
Do you all remember the line in the Entered
Apprentice Degree that says “this is to remind you
of your now poor and penniless condition, should
you find a brother, more especially, a brother
Mason in like poor and penniless condition, you
should come to his relief as liberally as possible,
without detriment to yourself or family”. Does it
say anything about only in the month of
December? Let us each take our obligations seriously and remember that we are a fraternity that
builds itself with good men by taking good men
and making them better. Let us each as we
approach the end of 2007 and the new beginning
of 2008 make an effort to have the same passion
toward each other and our fellow man in each and
every month as we do in December.
Let us all not forget those who are less fortunate. Remember that we are responsible for those
brothers and sisters that reside in our Masonic
Homes that are under our Masonic Care. To help
them have full, enriching lives, Debbie and I invite
you to support them through the Fruits of Our
Labor program. Why not adopt one of them for a
day or two? Fruits of Our Labor donations go
100% directly to the Masonic Care residents. What
a wonderful gift for them at this time of year!
The month of December also brings about
another time of year, election of officers. The election of officers is a very important event in the life
of our lodges. A time when we must elect a brother to govern the lodge as Master. He must be true
and trusty, a lover of the fraternity, one so qualified
to preside over them in the capacity of Master. He
should be exemplary in conduct, easy of address,
steady and firm in principle, well skilled in the
ancient charges, regulations and landmarks of the
order. This brother will lead the lodge for the ensuing year and must be ready to guide the lodge and
its members for the betterment of the fraternity.
Let us not forget “That from the Craft we came so
to it we must all return”. Choose well my brothers,
for the next several years will determine the future
of our beloved fraternity forever!
As the Holiday Season is upon us, Debbie and
I wish each of you and your families a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God bless
you and keep you in his Holy Spirit.
‘MASONRY MATTERS’
Freemasons District Deputy Grand Master Mitch Phillips (right) presents a check to Marshall County High
School Principal Trent Lovett, with Marshall County Chapter Representatives looking on.
The Marshall County Freemasons are once
again finding ways to give back to the community.
Recently, representatives from the Briensburg
No. 401, Calvert City No. 543, Hardin Berkley
No. 567, T.L. Jefferson-Benton No. 662, Doric No.
737, and Alford No. 925 Masonic Lodges met with
District Deputy Grand Master Mitch Phillips to
present donations totalling $2,051 to Marshall
County High School Principal Trent Lovett as part
of a newly implemented agenda known as
“Masonry Matters.”
The program was initiated by Supreme Court
Justice (and fellow Mason) Bill Cunningham,
whom after speaking with members in the area
about the relevance of the Freemasons in society
today, encouraged local members to raise money
for aiding Marshall County students to participate
in school activities, or even just basic needs, that
might not otherwise be able to afford them.
“It’s an unbelievable help,” said Lovett. “You
don’t ever, especially in our position, want some-
one to miss out on something because they couldn’t afford it.”
All contributions are purely free will, and go
toward such things as field trips, extra-curricular
activities, school clothes and supplies, and any
other school related areas of need. The only stipulation is that each student assisted be informed that
funds were provided by the Marshall County
Masons.
Initial fundraising took approximately two
months of simple “passing the hat” during business
meetings at the six county Lodges, though the program is set to be an ongoing process, with donations to be made to Marshall County High School
on a monthly basis.
The program is the first undertaking of its kind
by the Masons in the area, and currently Marshall
County is the only participant, though the Masons
hope the idea will catch on, particularly in the
remainder of the district which is composed of
three counties: Marshall, Graves, and Calloway.

And the Masons are more than glad to assist.

says Ted McCown, a member of Briensburg Lodge

HOLIDAY SEASON
As yet another year comes to a close, and we
prepare to celebrate another Holiday Season,
many of us are again saddened by the loss of family members, close friends and Brethren. It is a
strong and understandable human trait to have
these feelings of sadness, and even despair, in
remembering those who were with us at this time
last year- but have since been called to their heavenly reward.
However, in the beginning there was a great
promise made to us by the Grand Architect of the
Universe that should gladden our hearts and bring
eternal light to crowd out this darkness of sadness
and despair; His promise to care for those who put
their trust in Him. With that happy thought in
mind, we can take great comfort in the knowledge
that our loved ones are in the arms of a loving and
caring God, and are enjoying eternal bliss.
So as we move into the spirit of this meaningful Holiday season, on behalf of the Grand
Lodge Office Staff, Mary, Christy, Jamie, Jeanne,
Peg and yours truly, we wish for each of you the
happiest of the Holiday Season, and may the
“Reason for the Season” keep each of us mindful
of our obligations to exemplify the tenets of our
Fraternity, Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth;
those tenets revered by Freemasons worldwide!!

year, how easy it is to overlook some of the routine functions the lodge Secretaries must perform
to keep our records current.
Listed below are several items that should be
taken care of as soon as the information is available.
LIST OF LODGE OFFICERS AND
MASONIC DIRECTORY FOR 2008
The next task facing the Grand Secretary's
Office is compiling the Masonic Directory. At the
end of November each lodge should have
received a form on which to list the officers elected for the year, the address and telephone number[s] of the three principal officers and the
Secretary. As soon as the officers are elected,
please complete this form and send it to the Grand
Secretary's Office as quickly as possible in order
that we may process the information for the
Directory. DO NOT hold up the notice if a Junior
Officer has not been elected or appointed at that
time. It is important that the Master and Secretary
be listed in the Directory- any of the other officers
may be reported at a later date as they are elected
or appointed. Please note that you are to identify
each officer by name and Lodge membership
number. This procedure will reduce the opportunity for error in the Lodge Officer listing.
For the Directory to be meaningful, we must
have it available as early as possible after the
beginning of the New Year. If the completed form
from your lodge has not been received in the
Grand Secretary's Office before January 10, 2008,
there is a good chance the officers of your lodge
will not be listed in the Directory. Please do not
let this happen.
Also, on the same form, we ask that you furnish the exact address, or location, of your lodge
so that it can be easily found from the information
Page 3
provided in the Directory. It has come to our
attention a number of lodges have relocated -- or
their address has been changed -- with the old
address still listed in the Directory. Hopefully,
with the information you provide, the new
Directory can be brought up to date.
IRS REPORTING FORM
Also, on the bottom of the Lodge Officers
form mentioned above is a space to list the information required by the Internal Revenue Service
from each Subordinate Lodge. The information
received from the Subordinate Lodges is compiled in this office and a summary transmitted to
the IRS. Failure on the part of a Lodge Secretary
to respond may result in a visit from an IRS
Representative -- and there are penalties involved
that could be imposed for failure to report.
Be sure the form is signed by the Lodge
Secretary and the seal of the Lodge is placed
thereon.
Thanks to the elected and appointed Grand
Lodge Officers, the Brethren, my family and
guest who visited Hiram Lodge No. 4 on the
occasion of Awards Night at which I received my
50 year Grand Lodge of Kentucky Masonic
Veterans Award. It was a very pleasant and humbling surprise, even though I had to endure a mild
and somewhat revealing “Roast” by the Grand
Master and a selected few. Freemasonry is said to
be a way of life—but it is the Brethren that keeps
it alive and relevant. Thanks for making the occasion a lasting and memorable night for me

MASONIC MEMBERSHIP CARD
I hold in my hand a little scrap of paper 2 1/2 x 3
1/2 inches in size. It is of no intrinsic worth, not a
bond, not a check or receipt for valuables, yet it is my
most priceless possession. It is my membership card in
a Masonic Lodge.
It tells me that I have entered into a spiritual kinship
with my fellow Masons to practice charity in word and
deed; to forgive and forget the faults of my brethren; to
hush the tongues of scandal and innuendo; to care for
the crippled, the hungry and the sick, and to be fair
and just to all mankind.
It tells me that no matter where I may travel in the
world, I am welcome to visit a place where good fellowship prevails among brothers and friends.
It tells me that my loved ones, my home, and my
household are under the protection of every member
of this great Fraternity, who has sworn to defend and
protect mine as I have sworn to defend and protect
theirs.
It tells me that should I ever be overtaken by adversity or misfortune through no fault of my own, the
hands of every Mason on the face of the earth will be
stretched forth to assist me in my necessities.
And finally, it tells me that when my final exit from
the stage of life has been made, there will be gathered
around my lifeless body, friends and brothers who will
recall to mind my virtues, though they be but few, and
will forget my faults, though they may be many.
It tells me that, and a great deal more, this little
card, and makes me proud yet humble, that I can possess this passport into a Society of Friends and brothers
that are numbered in the millions.

Masonic Community Outreach
On November 3rd Wickliffe Lodge used
their monthly breakfast to raise money to help
the Tim Tipton family with the expenses they
have incurred over the last year and a half while
their daughter Jessica has been in and out of the
hospital. The Master of the Lodge, Leon
Blankenship, presented Jessica Tipton a check
for $775 on November 13.
Mr. Tipton said Jessica was home from the
hospital for good and is in remission at this time.
She will only be going back to the hospital for
periodical checkups. Jessica is looking forward
to returning to Ballard County Middle School after the Christmas break.
Wickliffe Lodge serves an “all you can eat” breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, biscuits,
gravy, juice, milk and coffee from six O’clock until ten O’clock for $5 the first Saturday each of each
month. One hundred and fifty eight people had breakfast with the Lodge and many of them made
extra donations. A number of people sent donations that were not even at the breakfast.
The members and officers of Wickliffe Lodge want to thank everyone that came out for their support in this effort and invite you to eat with us next month on the first Saturday in December.
Pictured Leon Blankenship, Master of Wickliffe Lodge # 625, presents a check to Jessica Tipton.
