C
orporate HR of Nestlé Philippines succeeded in opening the NCE Gate on
December 6, becoming the first market HR in the Nestlé world to do so. It also
earned the distinction of being the first function beyond operations within
Nestlé Philippines to open the NCE gate, paving the way for more nonOperations units to follow suit.
Embarking on the NCE journey in June 2011, the NPI HR team was one of five
HR groups in the Nestlé world to pilot NCE. Through the 18 months before its gateTurn to page 4

Australia), Group Accounting, and Global Business Solutions
(Vevey Switzerland) on December 6, making a leap forward in its
ongoing NCE journey. PEC Certification is one of the five elements of
the Compliance Foundation in F&C.

Pulilan Factory and Cagayan DC earned another win for the Company by receiving the DENR Official
Seal of Approval, the highest recognition conferred to companies by the principal government agency tasked
to take charge of the country’s vast environmental resources. This achievement came with being adjudged as
awardees of the Philippine Environmental Partnership Program (PEPP) Track 1 Category of the Department of
Environment & Natural Resources (DENR). The recognition was
given to the Company on November 29 at the DENR Central Office in
Quezon City.
Pulilan Factory and Cagayan DC achieved this feat after successfully passing through the stringent
requirements of the PEPP Evaluation Committee, which included a laborious review of voluminous
relevant documents and on-site audit.
The PEPP, pursuant to DENR Administrative Order 2003-14, is a DENR partnership program with
industries, in cooperation with other environment-related agencies, aimed at promoting voluntary industry
self-regulation towards improved environmental performance and full compliance with environmental
standards. There are two
tracks or classifications of
companies under the PEPP.

Procurement Credits BU Inno-Reno
Approach
In support of Procurement’s mission to deliver sustainable
value by focusing on innovation, the NPI Procurement team
initiated a total of 12 mini-supplier events in 2012. This
was in line with the team’s new approach of conducting an
innovation/renovation (inno/reno) event per Business Unit
instead of its past strategy of holding one big inno/reno day
where suppliers would display their premiums and talk about
their new technologies and capabilities to develop new product
ideas or concepts.
With the BU approach, the Procurement team allowed the
strategic buyers assigned to the particular BUs to determine
their unique needs and engage suppliers that may be able to deliver
innovative solutions. Eventually, it became evident that these small BUfocused inno/reno meetings were more beneficial than corporate wide events
as the strategic buyers were able to reach the target audiences such as the
Consumer Marketing Managers, Packaging Specialists, and Applications
Groups faster. They
were also able to
collectively agree on
specific action steps
to drive innovation
implementation. The
activities were held
both at the head office
and at the factories.
Supplier innovation
and renovation remain
as one of the main focus
areas of the Procurement
team in its desire to
further contribute to
delivering a competitive
edge for the Business
Units. The team plans to strengthen and sustain its inno/reno initiatives
by actively involving procurement partners in the BU’s cross-functional
meetings through supplier business reviews and by strengthening vendor
partnership and collaboration through a joint and balanced scorecard.
Nestlé Launches Business Continuity Project
Nestlé Philippines recently launched a Business
Continuity Management (BCM) project to ensure
the safety of employees and the continuity of critical
business processes when faced with calamities such as
earthquakes, typhoons and floods.
The BCM project aims to assess the Company’s
current state of readiness by identifying gaps in
existing plans, policies, procedures, and level of
understanding of BCM requirements. Identified gaps
and issues are addressed through Business Continuity
Plans (BCP) for critical business processes that include order capture, credit
control, stock allocation, perform billing, purchasing, time and payroll, and
demand and supply planning.
To start the ball rolling, a BCM orientation was conducted among key
staff at the Makati Admin Office that triggered discussions on: what to do
during the occurrence of a
critical incident or crisis, such
as flash flood or earthquake;
roles and responsibilities of
staff during such incidents;
site/building evacuation
protocol; and business
continuity options, such as
work-from-home or transfer to
alternate sites.
Lipa HR Conducts OMP for 2013
Lipa HR Team led by Department Head Luz Tanquintic recently held its 2013
Operation Master Planning (OMP) at Valentino Resort & Spa in Lipa City. Joining
the team was GA Pillar Lead Roma Fe Magcawas who helped guide the whole process
of OMP.
Team members did a pre-work for items needed as inputs to the OMP. They
prepared and presented some of the Department issues they encountered in 2012
that needed to be addressed in 2013. They also did a SWOT (Strengths, Weakness,
Opportunities and Threats) analysis and reviewed the updated 2012 Department
OMP.
To begin the Master Planning, the group discussed safety and quality updates
and came up with some relevant and important milestones. After a day of thorough
discussions, the team drew up a series of activities for each of different HR functions,
ensuring that these were aligned with the Factory’s objectives. The team also looked
into some priorities where improvements were needed.
The Lipa HR
Team now looks
forward to a fruitful
and successful 2013
by ensuring that all its
objectives are met and
activities coming from
OMP are delivered
on time and executed
flawlessly.
GA and FI Planning Session
at Pulilan
The GA and FI Pillar Team of Pulilan Factory recently held its planning
session for 2013, reviewing its 2012 performance, refreshing its SWOT
capabilities, and drawing up objectives for the year. The planning was led by KJ
Aguinaga for GA and Anniebeth Laynesa for FI.
The team later had the opportunity to undergo a team building workshop
with Frances Lee-Chua of HR as facilitator. The team went through different
activities related to their role as NCE advocates in the Factory.

HR Technical Holds
LEAD Meeting
HR Technical organized a
LEAD (Learning Enablers and
Advocates Development) Meeting
on November 22 at the St.
Giles Hotel in Makati City, led
by then HRBP for Operations
Renee Valdez and facilitated by
Corporate Technical Training Lead
Cecille Lansangan. In attendance
were the Learning & Development and
Technical Training Leads, who discussed the
milestones and challenges that were attained from their respective
sites during the latter half of 2012. The Leads were also asked to
discuss the information acquired from their respective Factory
OMPs with regard to people development, and to determine the
type of support needed from Corporate HR to ensure the success
of their site activities.
Renee opened the LEAD Meeting with a brief overview on
the meeting objectives, followed by updates on Operations and
Technical milestones. The rest of the morning was filled with
presentations from each of the Learning & Development and
Technical Training Leads. In the afternoon, the participants geared
for productivity after being divided into two groups. Given the
Technical OMP Priority of developing leadership capability and
building competence to drive high performing organization, the
groups were tasked to finalize their respective drivers and driver
measures.
After the final discussions and agreement as one team, the
participants plotted the milestones for 2013 and used these as
inputs to the Technical OMP.
Table top exercises based on chosen scenarios were likewise conducted at
pilot sites, which included MAO, NBS/NDC, and CDO Factory to further
test and refine the BCP. At the MAO BCM table top exercise, the scenario
was as follows: “No access, limited communication and short term damage to
local infrastructure due to an earthquake of over 7.2 magnitude that impacts
MAO and Metro Manila, preventing staff from entering the premises for 96
hours.”
Some 32 participants led by Chairman & CEO John Miller were divided
into five Incident Management teams, each tasked to identify actions to
enable MAO to respond effectively and recover from the incident. The whole
exercise, facilitated by the Hill & Associates Risk Consulting group, lasted
four hours.
The outputs from the table top exercises were used as inputs to the
BCP of the pilot sites. The fine-tuned BCPs will then be used as reference
templates by the factories and distribution centers later on.
BCP Lead Jun Pangilinan lauded the active participation of
the teams in the Business Continuity Planning. He said,
“Implementing the BCPs will increase our recovery
capabilities, aid us in making the right decisions quickly,
cut downtime, and thus minimize financial losses. In times
of disruption due to calamities and other incidents, the best
way for us to cope is to be prepared. A good, well thoughtout BCP helps us define our way forward so we can meet our
obligations even in times of crisis.”
Cabuyao Welcomes Campo
Cabuyao Factory warmly welcomed former Technical Director and now Nestlé Nutrition
Technical Manager Campo van Beek who visited the site on December 4. Factory Manager Craig
Thomas and the ManCom team were happy to receive the special guest, who was in the country for
the first time since his transfer to Vevey in 2011.
The objective of the visit was to check on the progress of the Performance Acceleration (PAc)
Team project and the Nestlé Nutrition business as a whole. Campo toured certain areas of the
Factory, for the first time seeing the Factory’s Life Saving Rules Playroom.
He later held a talakayan with the Factory employees, giving updates on the Nestlé Nutrition
business and mentioning the vital role
that Cabuyao Factory plays in the global
marketplace. Campo also addressed
questions raised by employees on the
integration of Wyeth Nutrition into the
Nestlé global family.
Asked what he misses most
about the Philippines, Campo said he
misses the “NPI employees’ level of
engagement, enthusiasm, and smiles.”
John, David Visit Pulilan
Chairman and CEO John Miller and Technical Director David Findlay visited Pulilan
Factory just before the year 2012 ended, taking the time to mingle with the staff and hold a
talakayan session with them.
The Factory was delighted with
the visit and employees made the
most of the chance to ask questions
and communicate directly with John
and David. Inspired by the visit, the
One Puilan Team looks forward to
a great year ahead knowing it has
the support of the Chairman and the
Technical Director.
CDO Rock Climbers
Celebrate Christmas
Members of CDO Factory’s Nestlé Workers
(NEW) Rock Climbing Club celebrated its first
Christmas party together with members of Zero
Grab (another group of rock climbing enthusiasts)
in Cagayan de Oro City on December 21. The hatsthemed party was held at the wall-climbing gym at
Alwana Sports Avenue.
The fun-filled event became a venue for the
NEW Rock members to get to know one another
better and get themselves ready for the upcoming
activities in 2013.

opening, the team got positive reviews from external coaches and observers
who noted the high level of engagement of its people and its openness to
solving problems and improving ways of working the NCE way. With the
advantage of having been involved in deploying NCE in the factories and
other units in Operations, the HR team openly embraced the challenge of
imbibing the NCE mindset, adopting and adapting to the NCE practices,
learning and honing the different problem-solving tools, and eventually
achieving acceptable levels of maturity in Goal Alignment, Leadership and
Development, and Compliance.
“On Day 1 of our NCE journey, we said to ourselves that we will take
this opportunity to be part of one of the greatest changes in the history of
HR in the Nestlé World. Little did we realize then how huge and daunting
the challenge that we have signed up for,” said HR Director Mitzie Antonio.
“The transformation that NCE required of us was not only about introducing
new ways of working in HR but more importantly it’s about transforming
our mindsets, our hearts and minds, to new ways of thinking to bring about
meaningful continuous excellence with focus and discipline.”
The team underwent pre-Gate assessment in October, conducted by
the Regional Implementation Support Team (RIST) and the Market Goal
Alignment team. It earned a score of 57 and rating of “Emerging” in most of
its NCE practices. Prior to this, it also had the benefit of coaching visits from
the RIST team in May and July, which helped steer the team to the right
directions.
The ensuing Gate assessment in early December showed that the
Pulilan, Cagayan DC…
team had achieved
several pluses in its
NCE journey. Among
these was the group’s
improved 2013 OMP,
which reflected that
people understand how
their measures and
actions help drive the
over-all performance of
the unit. Also cited were the team’s well-developed performance measures
and the people’s good engagement, passion, and sense of ownership. These
pluses were seen in the unit’s five centers of expertise, namely: employee
relations, learning and development, recruitment, compensation, and
business excellence.
“The change transformation was ably supported throughout the journey
by Corporate NCE and HR in Vevey, NCE RIST for AOA, and Market
NCE, who provided continuous feedback on strengths and improvement
opportunities during coaching sessions as well as during the recently
completed Gate assessment,” added Mitzie. “Every single member of the HR
team understands that NCE is a journey, a continuing adventure towards
excellence which will be trekked together by One HR Team. With 2013
ahead, the HR Team is now more focused and disciplined to win with people
all the time leveraging on NCE.”

performance. Track 2 covers companies that are currently unable to comply with
regulations and are driven by survival needs, composed of mostly Small & Medium
Enterprises (SMEs).
In order to qualify for the DENR Official Seal of Approval, the worksite must
have no case filed with the Pollution Adjudication Board (PAB) in the last three
years prior to the date of application, must be fully compliant with all applicable
environmental laws, rules and regulations, and must possess a proven record of superior
environmental performance.
Since 2009, only 39 of the thousands of registered business entities in the country
have been awarded with the DENR Official Seal of Approval. Among them are NPI’s
Lipa, Cabuyao, and Cagayan de Oro Factories, and both NDC and SDC worksites. This
year, 18 companies more— including Pulilan Factory and CDC— were recognized and
added to the elite list, qualifying under the program’s Track 1 classification.

Lipa Production Nourishes “One Team” Mindset,
Embarks on Life Balance Journey
The combined Production Management Team of MILO, Coffee,
and COFFEE-MATE (MCC) Plant and Breakfast Cereals (BFC) Plant
of Lipa Factory spent three days together for a daylong team building
workshop on December 27 and a two-day Life Balance workshop on
December 28-29 at Balay
Indang, Cavite.
The team building
was an important step in
the group’s journey toward
establishing a “one site” or
“one team” mindset, aiming
to build a foundation
of open communication
between the two plants.

to ensure that PEC processes are aligned with the defined Best
Practices. The team worked in close coordination with NBS AOA
and CCC Philippines.
The assessment, which took four months, covered several
areas such as: Best Practices in preparatory PEC activities,
Accounting Operations, Management Accounting, P&L Allocation,
Reconciliation Reporting, and Organizational Best Practices. The preparation and assessment processes spelled benefits for
the whole F&C team, including NBS AOA and CCC Philippines.
“Compliance with PEC Best Practices delivers value to the
organization. This is a notable contribution that the Management
Reporting team has made, indeed a leap forward in our pursuit of
continuous excellence!” said F&C Director Daniel Aellen. The workshop started with a familiarization activity that encouraged
participants to share about themselves, leading to more activities
that helped them understand their differing personalities, appreciate
one another, share best practices, and focus on a common goal as they
explored the different stages of team development.
In the My Life, My Balance workshop, facilitated by
Management Strategies, Inc., the participants further gained an
understanding of one another and themselves through such activities
as life balance assessment and sharing of their defining life moments.
They defined what life balance meant to each of them and crafted
their personal mission statement. They also agreed on ways to
support one another in achieving their life balance goals.
The workshop included a yoga session and an Aikido lesson with
Sensei Victor.
Mind-mapping for
Tanauan Management
A workshop on Mind-mapping was held for Tanauan
management staff on December 10 at the Restaurant
Function Room in Tanauan Factory.
Conducted by Bernard Marquez, a certified instructor
from the Buzan Center Asia and a pioneer of mind-mapping
in the Philippines, the workshop sought to unleash the
creativity of the participants and help them organize their
thoughts and ideas in a way that is beneficial to a learning
organization. It also
taught them tips
and techniques on
how to harness the
power of the human
brain to maximize
learning and
memory retention.

New employees of Tanauan Factory lined up for their
turn to “PASS” the fire extinguisher in a firefighting workshop
conducted on December 12 by Site Safety Officer Jherson
Santos. This was part of the group’s VOYAGE program.
The workshop discussed the proper use of portable fire
extinguishers. Participants experienced actual combat with
fire using the “PASS” procedure: pull the pin at the top; aim
the nozzle toward the base of the fire; stand approximately 8
feet away from the fire; squeeze the handle to discharge the
extinguisher; and sweep the nozzle back and forth at the base
of fire.
According to participants Chona Pesigan and Melvin
Olave, the training was so effective that they are now confident
and ready in case of emergencies.
1st CIP Expert Workshop
in NPI Held at Cabuyao
The first Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) Expert Workshop
in Nestlé Philippines was conducted at Cabuyao Factory
on November 19-23. Some 28 participants from different
work sites attended the workshop. The objective was to
develop the skills and competency of employees in the fields
of engineering, production, and QA in the correct application
and implementation of hygienic standards in CIP technology.
Experts from CO-Engineering Asier Segurajauregi and PTC Konolfingen AnneClaire Carerre facilitated the workshop. Factory Manager Craig Thomas welcomed
the team with strong message regarding safety at all times. Chief Engineer Ricardo
Cassina gave his full support in making this workshop possible for NPI.
The workshop focused on hands-on exercise and practical application of
hygienic engineering concepts and chemical cleaning technology without any
human intervention in achieving acceptable cleanliness of process equipment.
ESD PM Pillar Lead Arnel Nuñez and Market CIP Champion Romy Agpoon
coordinated the entire workshop with the assistance of Cabuyao HR Technical
Training Manager Mars Monsanto.
According to Anne-Claire, this workshop will be rolled out to the three zones
in 2013.
IPA and LTA Training for Pulilan
Lean Team
The Lean Value Stream Pillar Team members of Pulilan Factory, together
with some Focused Improvement (FI) Pillar Team members, recently attended
a learning session on FI tools IPA (Identify, Prioritize, Analyze) and LTA (Loss
Tree Analysis). The training gave the team members a better understanding
of the said tools, to enable them to use these effectively in identifying and
eliminating losses in the pilot family.

For being champions of the things they do, MAO employees
were rewarded with a Christmas celebration befitting their status
as Champions. Held at Sofitel Philippine Plaza on December 7, the
party dubbed as Christmas of Champions gave employees a chance
to spend and celebrate with their respective teams while reminding
them that they were all individual parts of a bigger team— the
Nestlé Philippines family.
The Olympic-inspired event was executed with much care and
flair right at the outset. Days before the party, employees received
their invites from gymnasts who traipsed from floor to floor bearing
gold Olympic cups that contained the invites. Olympic music played
in the background as athletes paraded from one cubicle to another,
prompting employees to get their invites.
Such invitation yielded superb attendance, with around 650 champions trooping to Sofitel on the
night
of the “games”. At the registration table, they received two wreaths— one that served as a raffle entry
which they had to hang on the Christmas tree beside the stage and the other to be used to claim drinks. From the
registration, they were led to the Olympic photowall to
have their souvenir pictures taken and printed.
While waiting for the program to start, the
champions had a chance to flex their muscles in some
fun Olympic challenges. Groups of three competed
in basketball, where they had to
6

shoot a blown-up ball in a giant hoop as many times as possible within one
minute. Tandems played the archery, using a giant bow and arrow to shoot
down the target within one minute. Bowlers had one minute to knock down
all pins to score 10 points; 5 points if some pins remained standing.
The program opened with a breathtaking performance of the Laoag City
Gymnastics Group (a gymnastic champion team), leading to a video presentation on the many
wins of Nestlé Philippines in 2012. This set the stage for the grand entrance of Chairman and
CEO John Miller carrying an Olympic torch to signal the official start of the “games”. He then
delivered a rousing speech that left the audience pumped up not only for the night’s festivities
but all the more for meeting the challenges of the year to come.
Next came the opening performance of celebrity host Tuesday Vargas, who was soon
joined by co-emcee Sam YG in roving around the tables for some fun chit-chats with the
champs.
The program then shifted to the awarding of the Service Awardees and the paying of
tribute to the retirees. Called Hall of Famers, the retirees in particular were given a farewell
befitting champions as they set to go out in a blaze of glory. Capping the tribute to these
all-time Nestlé champions was a cheerdance performance by the FEU gymnasts, the UAAP
cheerdance competition champions.
And then, the real “action” began, with four teams set to perform sporty action
and compete on stage. On hand to rate them and give immediate feedback were judges
Grace de Castro, Dianne Medina, and Guru Shivaker. The four teams, in order
of appearance, were: Yellow (representing SCM, Legal, Confectionery, Nestlé
Nutrition, and Nestlé Health Sciences); Green (Technical, Food, Petcare, and
CPW); Black (HR, C&MS, ICD, 3CBU, and Fresh Dairy); Red (Grocery Sales,
Liquid Beverages & Creams, and Corporate Affairs); and Blue (Finance & Control,
DHNS, Beverages, and NP). In the end, the Red Team was hailed the champion of
all the champions, winning the top prize. The Green Team placed 2nd, followed
by the Blue, Yellow, and Black Teams.
More entertainment numbers filled the evening before the program broke
into a dance party. The Execom surprised everyone with a special number, the
first time ever that the Execom performed for the employees. The Akafellas
group serenaded the audience, and host Tuesday did her share of song
numbers in between.
Of course, several items were raffled off, with Karen Mercado winning a SPA
gift certificate, Micheline Laluces bagging a hotel accommodation at Sofitel, and 80
lucky champions winning a thermos (courtesy of Nestlé Professional) each. The grand
draw of the Panalo Ka, Panalo Tayo promo was another highlight, with celebrities
Jake Cuenca and Jessie Mendiola helping out in drawing the winners.
The rest of the evening was spent partying with the 3rd Avenue Band providing
live music.

Whom better to give a red carpet treatment than
your own people?
This was the essence of Cabuyao Factory Manager
Craig Thomas’ message during the site’s yearend
affair held on December 23 at the Enchanting
Events Place in Enchanted Kingdom. How true
those words were as Cabuyao employees did
get a much-deserved red carpet special treat in
recognition of their valuable contributions to the
site’s journey toward becoming a lighthouse factory.
Such inspiring message was echoed by DHNS BEM
Jojo dela Cruz, who graced the event on behalf of
Chairman and CEO John Miller.
The employees were thus in high spirits as they walked
on the red carpet garbed in party attire and ready to enjoy
a yearend celebration prepared specially for them. It was a
musical festival through and through, with three major musical competitions
that had everyone cheering loudly for their favorite teams. Three pairs
sizzled on the dance floor in the ballroom dance competition, with the pair
of Raymar Biohon and Jogie Ann Cabrillos winning the first prize.
Three groups competed in the group dance contest, with the
DHNS team getting the highest score to win the top prize. Seven
bands outplayed one another in the battle of the bands, with the
Romantiko Band emerging as the best of the lot. All these top
winners received PhP 15,000 cash prize each.
Additional awardees were Arthur
Agustin and Diana Visaya, who were
chosen as the Female and Male Stars of
the Night as they showed up looking a lot
like Hollywood Wall of Famers.
Another highlight of the event was
the recognition given to the Service
Awardees who have served the
Company for at least 15 years.
Leading the awardees was Fabian
Templonuevo, probably the longestserving Nestlé employee with 40
years of service! Other remarkable
service awardees were Delfin Catalla with 35 years of service, and Mario Atiena and
Nida Bargola with 30 years of service each. Craig and the other ManCom members
congratulated and thanked the
awardees, as they presented
them with plaques on stage.
Nearly everyone went home a winner, as no less than 262 prizes were
raffled off. Among the prizes were: Sodexo gift check, Staff Shop gift check,
NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto, washing machine, refrigerator, TV, home theater,
camera, Samsung notebook, iPad, and Canon DLSR.

CDO Factory celebrated Christmas with a shining and shimmering party on December 18 at the Limketkai Atrium.
As the theme suggested, sparkling lights of blue and silver filled the venue. Program opened with ABS-CBN local
talents Maxene Monasterio and Bernie Bitok-Bitok as hosts. Retirees and Agri-Services staff were likewise invited
to join the occasion.
With spotlights all around him, Factory Manager Ernie Zamora welcomed
everyone to the event with a speech that highlighted the Factory’s wins and
challenges in 2012. He also read the message of Chairman and CEO John
Martin Miller, and congratulated both the Union and Management staff on the
successful signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for a new CBA.
The night’s opening salvo pumped up the crowd when members of the
management committee danced to the tune of Gangnam. The dance number stirred
everybody’s excitement, especially since CDO employees missed having their party in 2011 in
deference to the victims of Typhoon Sendong.
This year, four competing units prepared hard to deliver their respective presentations with
poise and perfection. Audio-video presentations flashed on screen to introduce each
production number.
Coffee Academy was the first to perform, doing a well choreographed act from
beginning to end, which got them the 2nd prize.
The combined Engineering and Factory Management group, the defending
champion from 2010, presented an interpretative ensemble from the get-go and
continued with mixed dances all the way to the conclusion of their act, claiming the 3rd
prize.
Quality Assurance and Factory Supply Chain did a cute and sexy number on stage
with their all-female dancers, swaying to finish at the 4th spot.
The last performance was by the Milks Department, which clearly illustrated a
well-thought concept as it showed a complete storyline of what Christmas is— from
Santa to candy canes, toys, fairies, and family. This bagged the 1st prize for the group.
Even while celebrating a fun party, CDO Factory remained sensitive to a worthy
cause, this time helping raise proceeds for the benefit of the provincial jail inmates.
This was through the “Reach for Your Star” activity where employees picked and
hung lanterns across the atrium. Every Nestlé employee who took part in this activity,
regardless of rank, shone bright as a star.
Major and minor prizes were raffled off to lucky employees. Special awards
were also handed to outstanding personalities that sparkled during the affair.
Randy Ursal of OPD won as the male star of the night while Malou Caneja,
spouse of Coffee employee Third Caneja, won as the female star of the night. Mr.
& Mrs. Joseph del Puerto of Milks were named the splendid couple, Baby Guia
Allado (daughter of Milks employee Jen Allado) was chosen the shining baby
of the night, and Lizette Acera and company bagged the title of shimmering
barkada of the night.
The event was indeed a success, going down in history as one
of the Factory’s milestones in recent times.

Dressed in red-carpet-worthy attire, both the Project Frontier
and Operations teams lived it up in their first full-blown party, with
Factory Manager Marlou Constantino proudly welcoming everyone.
Special guest Technical Director David Findlay shone brightly
as one of the night’s stars, delivering his Christmas message and
commending everyone for their efforts in bringing Tanauan Factory

Bernardo, Allado, Africa Get
Best JDI Awards in Lipa
Manny Africa, Medel Allado, and Tony Bernardo bagged the Best JDI
(Just-Do-It) awards in Lipa Factory for the months of August, September,
October, and November. They were awarded during the site’s recent MultiLevel Meeting, receiving Sodexho
GC and gift packs from Site JDI
Coordinator Florante Potato and
the Department Heads.
Manny’s winning JDI for the
month of August addressed the
frequent turning-off of the water
BERNARDO
ALLADO
valve in the extruder water tank.
He suggested pulling out the manual valve, and this
led to line improvement and minimized downtime.
Medel of Team Minimax of Breakfast Cereals got
the Best JDI Award for the months of September and
October. His first JDI tackled the problem of bent
round bar belt guide, which caused the over-stretching
of the sides of belt. He proposed the use of straight
AFRICA
round bar instead of a bent one in order to prevent
the over-stretching. This simple JDI reduced frequency of belt replacement
from four times a year to only two times. His other winning JDI addressed
the clogging of the inner carton (IC) resulting in 45-minute line stoppage.
After conducting GSTD, Medel concluded that the clogging was due to
misalignment of the IC when passing through the X-ray machine. He
suggested installing a plastic guide inside the machine to keep the IC in
place. This eliminated downtime, preventing opportunity and efficiency loss.
Tony of Team Bodegueros of Supply Chain won the award for
November for the simplicity and safety impact of his idea. After noting the
frequent repair of twin plastic pallets, he simply suggested reducing the
pallet stacking from five-pallet high to only four and revising the palletizing
sequence. These simple measures improved safety and prevented frequent
repair of damaged pallets.

JDIs for the month of November. Its JDIs have resulted in significant
improvements in safety and work processes in the Factory. The team

Bardos, Argosino, Lambio Win
Best OPL Awards in Lipa
Ric Bardos and Manny Argosino of Team Bodegueros as well as Malou
Lambio of Team QA Champions recently bagged the Best OPL Awards in Lipa.
They received Sodexho GC and gift packs from Site JDI Coordinator Florante
Potato and the Department Heads.
Ric’s OPL was about the proper management of
rhodamine-applied foils in stillage. He noticed that the
stillage for the said foils did not have any catcher. The area
always became messy because of rhodamine spillages. He
corrected it with an OPL to put a catcher plate whenever
stillage is used to prevent rhodamine drops on the flooring
and minimize the cost of frequent re-painting of the
BARDOS
flooring.
Manny’s OPL attempted to reply to the frequent
questioning at the SCM office regarding the volume of
detention bills being submitted to MAO without being
first evaluated by the SCM supervisor for the actual cost.
His OPL was to have Lipa Admin and SCM locally process
the actual cost of detention bills and to prevent brokers
ARGOSINO
from directly claiming from MAO. This ensured the
validity of detention bills payment.
Malou’s OPL was about the re-passing period of
X-ray rejected pouches. The said pouches were not being
re-passed promptly, resulting in late detection of metal
contaminants. She corrected this with an OPL ordering that
X-ray rejected pouches must be re-passed within two hours.
This OPL assured food safety.
