Thousands enjoy the ever growing Octoberfest in downtown Greer
Greer has many new and exciting recreational venues available. The
City of Greer is currently expanding and renovating many local parks
which create a great lifestyle for Greer residents and visitors. Greer
has it all-downtown festivals and events, great restaurants, theatrical
plays, lakes for fishing, local sports and near-by professional and college
sports, numerous award-winning golf courses, major concerts nearby
at the Bi-Lo Center, great hotels, spas and much more.
With the great climate, tremendous growth in the housing market,
new and expanded commercial growth and new job opportunities, the
demand for recreation has increased. As a result, the area has made
great strides in making Greer a great place to live, work, and visit.
With Greer being in such a great location, between Greenville and
Spartanburg SC, residents can experience many opportunities that are
typically offered only in much larger metropolitan areas. Residents of
Greer are only an hour and a half drive away from the ski resorts in the
nearby Blue Ridge Mountains and are a four hour drive from the great
beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Greer is also the home of the Greenville Spartanburg International Airport which makes traveling to the
rest of the world very convenient.
The recreational landscape in Greer is changing as the City of Greer
is undergoing extensive renovations for some of their parks and recreational facilities. The City Park and City Gym, which are located at
Moore and Line Streets just south of the new Greer Commons site, includes a gym that is used for adult basketball leagues and other indoor
recreational leagues, as well as outdoor basketball courts for all-season
play.
The existing baseball/softball field, currently know as City Ball Field,
will be completely renovated. It will host softball and youth baseball
programs, softball clinics and camps, and draw many additional softball tournaments to the city. In addition to new bleachers and lights,
plans for the renovations include a concessions area with restrooms,
open green space for families, and a trail and fitness walking track along
with ample paved parking.
Residents are fortunate to live in a personal and caring community
that offers so many leisure activities. The Greer Cultural Arts Council is a division of the City of Greer Parks and Recreation Department.
Their mission is to serve the Greater Greer Community by establishing and making available performing arts opportunities. They strive
to assemble existing talent and discover, attract, and develop new performers. “Their endeavor will be open to all persons regardless of their
age, creed, ethnicity, gender, or socio-economic background”.
The City of Greer Parks and Recreation has seven distinct parks
and six neighborhood parks, which offer something for all ages. The
recently remodeled Greer City Stadium is home to youth football,
cheerleading and soccer programs. The venue has been the site for a
professional soccer team, political debates and concerts, and seats over
3,000 spectators. Century Park is home to a baseball and softball complex and has three baseball diamonds with all of the amenities. This
facility is adjoined with the very popular Kids Planet Playground.
Kids Planet is a wonderful gathering area for everyone. It has two play
structures and is surrounded by wooden picnic areas, pavilions and a
paved walking track. A special play area for special needs children was
recently developed. Thousands of children from all across the upstate
visit the Park annually.
In Greer, the past, present and future of BMW come together in a
one of-of-a-kind building. See the cars, the speed, the innovation – all
for free in the only BMW museum in North America. The Zentrum
is part meeting and events center, part café, part gallery, and part time
machine. Located next to the only BMW manufacturing plant in the
