Fall Festival a Big Success
We want to thank everyone who came out Oct. 23 for a night of food, fun, and games at our Greer Fall Festival and

raised $851.99 to support field trips.
We also want to give special thanks to all the businesses that donated food, gift cards or gift certificates to
help make the night a huge success! Please be sure to
visit these businesses and thank them in person.

We would also like to thank all the teachers, students, and parents who jumped in to help run the event. The 5th
Grade Crew came out in big numbers and did a fabulous job running games, helping to set up and clean up, run the
bingo game, and do face painting. The Crew also made all of the signs around the school advertising the event.
Many younger students helped as well. We had teachers who jumped in to help and worked the whole night. We
had about 400 people at the event and could not have done it without all the help we had. Thanks to Mr. Timmy
and the custodians for their help as well and, of course, Mrs. Bolling and Dr. Korab.
Thank you to Tammie, Katie, Sarah, Charlie, Laurey, Ruben and Maren for organizing the event.
Special thanks to Paige, Kaitlin, Khouri, Morgan, Jackie and Raigan from AHS girls soccer and softball.

Great job clipping box tops for education!
The Greer PTO recently sent in 4,578 box tops to General Mills. Special thanks to Claudine Currie, who sorted more
than 1,500 box tops.
We will receive a check for $457.80, which will provide appreciation gifts for teachers and staff as well as food for
monthly staff meetings at Greer. With proceeds from previous box top submissions, the Greer PTO has given welcome back gifts of thanks to our 10 bus drivers and birthday flowers to Alison Perkins, who has given many years of
service to the PTO as the teacher representative at our evening meetings.
Box Tops are sent to General Mills two times each year (at the beginning of November and the beginning of
March), but we’re happy to accept your donations throughout the year. Please drop off your box tops at the Greer
Elementary School office.

Greer students to be part of Virginia Film Festival on Saturday, Nov. 8
The Virginia Film Festival will again this year include the Young Filmmakers Academy as part of its Family Day. Greer
fifth-graders submitted films for consideration to be screened at the Festival, and had great fun in the process learning about writing, acting and editing!
Come see all of the Greer films from 10:15-10:45a.m. in UVA's Campbell Hall Rm. 153 (part of UVA Arts Grounds with
free parking in the Culbreth Garage.) At 1 p.m., also in Rm. 153, the Best of Young Filmmakers Academy from all
schools will be shown with two Greer films included.
Congratulations to students Jonas Comeau-Collins, Soniya Dighe, Tess Eluvathingal–Muttikkal and Zachary Hymes for
selection of their film “The Fall of Capone,” and Avery Huang, Cole Smith, Kevin Wang and Caitlyn Weaver for selection of their film “William: A Life at School.” There will also be a 75th anniversary screening of The Wizard of Oz in
Culbreth Theatre at 10 a.m.
Check out the Virginia Film Festival website — virginiafilmfestival.org — for more info on all the Family Day activities.
Many thanks to Ms. Kavanaugh and all the other teachers who support this opportunity for our fifth-graders.
Nov. 8-9: Artisans Studio Tour
The Artisans Studio Tour was founded in 1994 by a group of Charlottesville-area artisans to enhance the community's awareness of professional artisans living and working in the region. This year, 40 artists will display their work at
22 studios throughout the region, with McGuffey Art Center serving as the main gallery.
All 40 artisans have gone through a rigorous approval process to ensure their crafts are of the highest quality.
The Tour is self-guided, free and open to the public. Each studio on the Tour also provides food and beverages from
some of the area's best establishments as well as artisan-prepared treats. Tours run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
For more information, visit facebook.com/artisans.studio.tour or www.artisanstudiotour.com.
