SRP PROJECT of the MONTH
HENRICUS HISTORICAL PARK – 1611 CHURCH
Simmons, Rockecharlie, & Prince recently completed the design for the “New” 1611 Church at
Henricus Historical Park located on a bluff overlooking the James River just outside Richmond,
Virginia. Henricus is the second successful settlement English settlement in the New World. The
1611 Church is a re-creation of the original Church built at the Fort. The building is heated and
cooled using Three Geothermal Heat Pump Systems. The Air Handling Units are located below
the wood floor along with the ductwork. Eighteen, 150 foot deep Geothermal wells are located
adjacent to the building. The building is heated and cooled so that it can be rented to outside
groups for Weddings and other Events for up to 200 people to raise funds to maintain the Park.
Lighting is concealed in the ceiling and conduit is installed inside the walls to maintain the
authentic look of the Church. The electric service is 400 amps, 120/240 volt, 3 phase.
