Main research projects in Geothermal Energy field coordinated by the Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources (National Research Council of Italy) Since Geothermal Energy was born in Larderello during 1904, Tuscany plays a major role in geothermal research and projects in Italy and worldwide IGG is actively involved in training and dissemination in Italy, Europe and Central-South America activities Institute of Geosciences and Earth Resources National Research Council of Italy (CNR) Via Moruzzi 1, 56124 Pisa, Tuscany [email protected] IGG - Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse - Pisa Italia Proyecto “Creacion de una actividad de formacion en Geotermia en el Sistema Academico Salvadoregno Ministero degli Affari Esteri Universidad de El Salvador El Salvador Larderello, 1904 VIGOR is a geothermal exploration project addressed to the identification of geothermal resources as well as to give preliminary indication of their best use. It promotes the use of geothermal energy in the Convergence Regions (Puglia, Calabria, Campania and Sicilia) The Geothermal Atlas is focused to investigate hydrothermal systems, the studies are planned for evaluation of environmental aspects related to the use of geothermal resources and to the promotion of cleaner lowcarbon economy. The National Geothermal Database was built in 1993 by IGG as completion of the inventory of geothermal resources by CNR, ENEA, ENEL and ENI. Data have been continuously updated untill now. The BDNG (Italian National Geothermal Database) is a part of a wide project, called Geothopica, where the database is the indispensable core. IGG maintains a variety of high quality, state of art research facilities Project ZET – Zero Emission Tuscany The CCS technology (CO2 capture and storage), in addition to the exploitation of geothermal resources, would enable the Tuscany region to become a zero emissions of CO2
