Air Conditioning Innovations for
theTelecommunications Industry
In our communications-based society, technologies
are being developed and used on a daily basis that
impact all of our lives. A key element of the entire
new global network of communications systems circling our cities and running parallel to our roadways
are the shelters containing the electronic equipment.
These shelters require air conditioning during most, if
not all, of the year, to offset the high heat loads of
the electronic equipment inside and ensure smooth
operations. Reliable Marvair™ Air Conditioners
keep the network operating whatever the outdoor
conditions.
In the early l980’s, Marvair™ developed innovative
air conditioning units specifically for the emerging
communications market. Marvair continues to be the
preferred choice for communications applications on a
worldwide basis because they are durable, easy to
install and perform reliably year after year.
Efficient Air Conditioning Systems
for All Telecommunications
Applications
With the telecommunications industry changing
so quickly – cellular, cable, wireless, satellite, 2.5 & 3G
– companies have made a sizable investment to
ensure that the electronic equipment vital to the communications operations work reliably inside the shelter.

Marvair’s full line of air conditioning products from onehalf ton to six tons are designed and manufactured to
cool communications shelters, huts and cabinets. Units
are available for many voltages and most international
power supplies.
Marvair™ combines expertise in design, manufacturing and industry knowledge to be uniquely qualified to
provide the air conditioning units you need today.
Marvair™ Products are Flexible,
Cost-Efficient Solutions for Today
& Tomorrow
The optimum in cooling, Marvair’s ComPac® Series is
designed and built with all of the controls needed for
cooling your communications shelter for any season.
The ComPac II models have a built-in economizer, to
take advantage of using outside air during lower
temperatures to cool the building. The economizer
cycle can reduce the run time on the compressor by up
to 75%, extending compressor life and the longevity of
the air conditioner. The ComPac I air conditioners are
ideal for tropical or subtropical environments or where
corrosive outside air may damage sensitive telecommunications equipment.
Marvair™ units are used to cool
utility structures, mobile electronic
equipment vehicles, mobile
medical equipment vehicles and
commercial buildings.

For Durability and
Versatility, the ComPac™
Air Conditioning Units
Have No Match.
Tens of thousands of these ComPac®
air conditioners are now in service
around the world. Built for ease of
installation and reliable operation, these
units can be found on shelters wherever
you look.
ComPac® models provide the air
conditioning solution for a wide range
of conditions and applications: cellular,
wireless shelters, microwave stations,
PCS, utility shelters and mobile electronic
equipment vehicles. With the built-in
economizer, they offer more reliable
operation and energy efficiency.
The ComPac® II A/C’s economizer
system makes this unit an outstanding
choice for efficient, long-term communications shelter cooling. The ComPac II
A/C is controlled by a signal from the
wall mounted indoor thermostat when
cooling is required, whether mechanical
cooling with the compressor or free
cooling with the economizer. A factory
installed enthalpy controller determines
whether the outside air is to be used,
and if suitable, the compressor is locked
out and the economizer damper opens to
bring in outside air. The temperature at
which the economizer opens is
adjustable from 53°F (12°C) at 50%
relative humidity to 78°F (46°C) at 50%
relative humidity.
Following the enthalpy control activation, the mixed air sensor measures the
temperature of the air entering the
indoor blower from the outside and
modulates the economizer damper to
supply the precise ratio of indoor and
outdoor air for a discharge temperature
of 50° to 56°F (10° to 13°C) to prevent
thermal shock of the electronic components. The compressor will not operate
when the economizer is functioning. If
the outside air becomes too hot or
humid, the economizer damper closes
and mechanical cooling is activated.

SlimPac™ ECU
The SlimPac™ ECU is built in cooling capacities of
12,000 and 18,000 BTUH. With its unique profile,
the SlimPac ECU mounts quickly on the exterior of a
cabinet on either side of the splice chamber.
MiniPac™ ECU
The MiniPac™ ECU has nominal cooling capacities
from 4,400 to 8,000 BTUH. The use of a condenser
blower and an over/under condenser air intake and
discharge design allows the unit to be installed with
a minimum of clearance around the sides.
DoorPac™ ECU
The DoorPac™ ECU has a nominal cooling capacity
of 12,000 BTUH and is installed through the door or
a telecommunication cabinet. This unique design
minimizes the exterior space required.
ECU60
As more telecommunication equipment is added to
existing shelters, heat loads increase and more cooling is required. The Marvair™ ECU60 provides an
ideal solution to this problem. The ECU60 is designed
as a field replacement for
Marvair’s 3 Ton ComPac® I air
conditioner. The unique
design eliminates the need to
cut new openings in the shelter. It has the same size supply and return openings as
the AVP36 but with 50%
more cooling capacity.
When you need to increase
the cooling capacity and your
current unit is the ComPac® II
air conditioner with the built-in
economizer, we can provide a
wall curb that mounts on the
side of the shelter. This curb
provides a transition from the
existing openings to a 5 Ton
ComPac II air conditioner.

Marvair™ DualPac™ Air Conditioners
The DualPac™ air
conditioners are unique
in that they incorporate
two independent air
conditioning systems
within a single cabinet.
This provides redundancy without the need
for two separate units.
The units have two
compressors, two
condenser coils, a separately
circuited evaporator coil, separate controls, one
evaporator blower motor and one condenser fan motor.
The DualPac™ air conditioners are especially
effective in sites where the heat load is expected to
increase as new communications equipment is added
due to growth of system demand. Matching cooling
capacity with cooling needs, results in improved
reliability because of fewer start/stop cycles and more
precise temperature control within the enclosure.
Marvair™ Custom Units
Marvair™ combines expertise in design, manufacturing and industry knowledge to provide air conditioning
systems and solutions for what you need today.
Shelters, cabinets, huts, unique shelter designs, tight
dimensions or unusual capacity requirements are not a
problem; we can build a custom solution. Marvair
continues to monitor the telecommunications industry
and develop new products to solve unique cooling
situations and respond to market changes.
• High Filtration Package - ComPac® I and II A/C Units are built with up to 95% efficient filters.
