For any fan and collector this Maybach SW38 Cabriolet of 1938 must be an absolute highlight. In 1938 at the motor show of Berlin this cabriolet, a 4 & 5 seat car with a short
wheelbase and its body-work made by Spohn Ravensburg was an exhibition object. There the Maybach representative of Berlin directly sold it to its first holder. After the end
of the war the car was registered at the central office for possessions of the German Armed Forces and also at the former Chinese Military Mission in Berlin. Then it had been
driven for some years by a Berlin architect. The last owner had it totally restored in best quality with a lot of ambition for all details. He gave him back its former colors which it
had right at the beginning of 1938. These colors are: A dark and a light red. Its leather cushions are beige-colored and the convertible hood is sand-colored. Even at that time
the Maybach had a gigantic appearance and could only be afforded by a few people. Until nowadays this appearance stayed in this condition and every viewer will be
continuously fascinated by this Maybach SW38 Cabriolet. Such a classic car with this originality and such a comprehensible history is only very seldom offered on the market.
We can advice that this is an excellent investment that will outshine every stock. Maybach was the first Mercedes. Like an employee of Gottlieb Daimler's DMG (Daimler
Motoren Gesellschaft) Wilhelm Maybach constructed the first car which was named Mercedes. However the creator of the Maybach cars wasn't Wilhelm Maybach now but his
son Dr. Karl Maybach. In 1910 he founded the Maybach Motorenbau Company in Friedrichshafen at the Lake of Constance. First they produced the driving-motors for dirigibles
of the Earl of Zeppelin and then also the flying motors. At the end of the First World War the production of flying-motors had to be changed. Later Maybach decided to produce
complete chassis. He did not produce proper chassis but mostly ordered them by Spohn in Ravensburg. After some different models Maybach finally created the twelvecylindrical Maybach Zeppelin. This was a gigantic car that in its premium item possessed an enormous speed of 200 HP that was given from its engine size containing 8 liters
and had a 7-runnings-gearbox. As the Zeppelin became such big and heavy, its driver had definitively to possess a driving-license for trucks. However due to the fact that all
Maybach Zeppelins had to be driven by chauffeurs, this was not actually disturbing but the hard suspension was due to the weight. In 1936 Maybach presented this Model
SW38. This SW38 disposed of an excellent comfort in suspension, fast travelling speeds and after all, it was also adapted to driving-owners without having a driving-license for
trucks. In these times driving capacities were only attended by a few of sports- or compression automobiles. Compared with the British Rolls Royce, Maybach's cars marked the
absolute top in quality and price in Germany. They promoted this brand to a legend. It is very seldom that one of the few existing Maybach cars is offered for sale.
