Vice President Nelson Collins Commercial Chair Doug Owen MSI President Paul Odgen Immediate Past President Kathy McGann KAR Regional Director Santosh Bhatt Charles Ballard Steve Elmore Linda Gibson Cecil Donna Gordon Evelyn Pusateri Jan Scholtz Robert Strain November is Realtor® Designation Awareness Month The National Association of Realtors® has named November as Realtor® Designation Awareness Month. NAR established November as an important month in which to encourage its members to Keep It In The Family by starting, completing or continuing an official NAR-endorsed designation program through NAR or one of its affiliates. An industry that moves as fast as real estate demands continuing education throughout one’s career. Successful agents must keep current on issues, evolving technology, changing legalities, and many other central components of the business. NAR and its nine Institutes, Societies and Councils offer twenty advanced education designation and certification programs to help members remain up-to-date in such a dynamic environment. Although other designations exist, only these twenty carry an official NAR endorsement. Today’s market expects the highest level of expertise from each Realtor®. In both their heightened proficiency and increased marketability, Realtors® who pursue professional designations have a distinct competitive edge. An NAR 2005 Member Survey shows that Realtors® without an NAR designation earned a median of $40,900, while those that indicated a designation earned a median of $82,900. For a complete list of the official NAR family of designations and certifications, visit http://www.realtor.org/runivers.nsf/pages/DesignationAwarenessMonth. Letter From Your MSI President - Paul Ogden Computers, smart cell phones, e-mail, digital cameras, are all the new “tools of our trade.” Many of us recall when these new fangled gadgets called fax machines were the cutting edge of technology. What was that NAR statistic from a few years ago... that the average Realtor® is 54 years old and the average buyer is 28. Sound like a generation gap ? Those 28 year olds expect us to be able to provide services at their level… they want us to be able to send e-mails from our cars, send them forms on-line, be able to access the MLS from places other than our desks. 2005 - 06 MSI Board of Directors President Paul Ogden President-Elect Allison Bartholomew Secretary/Treasurer Wallace Fluhr Commercial Representative Paul Ogden GLAR President Andrew Pruitt Ginny Carnes Brad DeVries Glenn Edelen Merle Edmiston John Fischbach Kim Hayes Ricca Ken Jones Paul Kirkpatrick Charlie Lotze Pat Parks Harrell Tague Should I upgrade my digital camera to an 8 pixel one? Does my next cell phone need GPS ? What about one of those tablet PC’s? With all those options, what tools will help me best? Please don’t get caught up in technology or MLS tunnel vision, as some of us may be guilty of. The absolute best tool you have is YOU, yourself. All of the gadgets and toys are not to be overlooked, but they play only a supporting role. You, your knowledge, your experiences, your access to resources, and your professionalism are the best tools in this industry. Your association is here to serve you. Let GLAR play that supporting role of providing a viable MLS, providing classes, technology consulting, etc. Could it be that the “cutting edge of technology” is YOU, the professional Realtor®. NAR Announces New CEO Dale Stinton, NAR’s CFO/CIO, has been named successor to Terry McDermott as the association’s EVP/CEO effective Nov. 1. “I believe Stinton’s selection is an outstanding endorsement from the membership of our culture and performance and as such is a complement to us all,” said McDermott. NAR’s search committee screened scores of applications and conducted numerous individual interviews before agreeing on Stinton unanimously. Stinton’s appointment caps a 24year career that began in 1981 when he joined NAR’s Finance Department. He became Chief Financial Officer in 1991 and added the title of Chief Information Officer in 1998. He is a graduate of Western Illinois University and has an MBA from DePaul. He is a CPA, a Certified Management Accountant, and a Certified Association Executive. Report shows Louisville Housing Market in Excellent Shape With home prices rising strongly in most parts of the country, there has been widespread media coverage on the possibility of a housing market bust. A thorough analysis of the Louisville metro market by the Research Division of the National Association of Realtors® reveals that there is very little danger of this. In fact, the local housing market is in excellent shape with a potential for significant housing equity gains, particularly for homebuyers who plan to remain in their house for the long run. The local market has very favorable home price-to-income ratio and even better mortgage servicing cost-to-income ratio. The latter ratio is currently below the local historical average. It implies no widespread financial overstretching to purchase a home in the region. Any respectable gains in the local job market will translate into substantial home price gains.. A copy of the full report with statistical date is available online on the front page of the MLS.
