BIOGRAPHY:
Formed in 1992 under the name Disgorged, HEAVENWOOD quickly established themselves as one of the most important
Portuguese metal bands, alongside of Moonspell.
HEAVENWOOD signed to Massacre Records and released two albums in the late half of the 1990’s: „Diva“ and „Swallow“ were
very well accepted worldwide, and put HEAVENWOOD in successful European tours with bands such as Atrocity, In Flames,
Theatre Of Tragedy and Lake Of Tears.
In 1998, high on the track of their „Swallow“ album (which featured guest appearances by Gamma Ray mastermind Kai Hansen
and - at the time - Theatre Of Tragedy front lady Liv Kristine), HEAVENWOOD was the first Portuguese band EVER to play at
Wacken Open Air!

After that, more tours with bands such as Atrocity, Solitude Aeturnus and Saviour Machine followed, but the band quickly folded
in a sea of internal problems and line-up changes... until 2008.
Then HEAVENWOOD returned ready to break hearts again with their third full-length album „Redemption“ released on Recital
Records!
„Redemption“ was recorded at the USStudios in Braga, Portugal and mixed & mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Soilwork,
Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. It features all melodic and catchy HEAVENWOOD trades plus a new
energy and experience. Special guest appearances (Ozzy Osbourne/ Firewind’s Gus G, Oceans Of Sadness’ Tijs Vanneste and
Annihilator’s Jeff Waters) not only underline but also finalize HEAVENWOOD’s trademark of gothic and dark metal. The release
of this album was followed by some shows all around Portugal including some sold out gigs.
„Abyss Masterpiece“, their fourth album, was released in 2011 via Listenable Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by
producer Kristian „Kohle“ Kohlmannslehner (Crematory, Agathodaimon, Benighted) at Kohlekeller Studios in Germany. It was
once again recorded at USStudios. The album artwork was created by Matthew Vickerstaff of Darkwave Art, who has previously
worked with Cradle Of Filth or My Dying Bride, among others. The album features guest appearances by Ram-Zet‘s Miriam
Renvag (also known as SfinX), alongside Russian symphonic classical composer Dominic G. Joutsen. It is an intense album, both
musical and lyrically with great orchestral arrangements that - when added to the guitar riffs - made everything become unique,
heavier and dark…
The band played several gigs around Portugal, including appearances at the famous Live Summerfest (Azores), SWR Barroselas
Metalfest, SMSF Santa Maria Summer Fest and Dubai Rockfest 2014.
The re-release of the band’s third album „Redemption“ via Massacre Records in late June 2016 whetted the fans‘ appetite for the
upcoming release of HEAVENWOOD‘s new album.
„The Tarot Of The Bohemians - Part 1“, the new and fifth HEAVENWOOD album, is the band‘s most ambitious work until today
and was recorded between April and November 2015 at Raising Legends Studio (Porto, Portugal) with producer André Matos. It
is inspired and dedicated to the French occultist Papus (Gérard Analect Vincent Encausse) and his studies regarding the Tarot.
Drum sessions for „The Tarot Of The Bohemians - Part 1“ were done by Daniel Cardoso (Anathema), who previously recorded
„Redemption“ and „Abyss Masterpiece“ as well. The drum recording session took place at UltrasoundStudios in Braga, Portugal.
French drummer Franky Costanza, from DAGOBA, also a special guest on the new album, recorded the drums for the songs „The
Wheel of Fortune“ and „The Lovers“.
Sandra Oliveira, a Portuguese female singer from the band BLAME ZEUS, is also a special guest on the album and contributed
backing vocals to „The High Priestess“ and „The Lovers“ as well as the lead vocals on „The Hanged Man“.
Fadi Al Shami, from the band ARAMAIC (hailing from Dubai) is a special guest on the song „The Hermit“.
The 13th track on the album is a re-recording of the song „Frithiof‘s Saga“, originally taken from the debut album „Diva“, which
was released 20 years ago, thus celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2016.
HEAVENWOOD‘s guitarist and vocalist Ricardo Dias composed and recorded the music and the orchestral parts of the album at
the Raising Legends Studio, where producer André Matos (who recorded the bass session for this new album), also recorded the
vocals of Ernesto Guerra as well as the lead guitars of Vítor Carvalho.
„The Tarot Of The Bohemians - Part 1“ marks the recording debut of the Portuguese guitar virtuoso Vítor Carvalho of Demon
Dagger with HEAVENWOOD, who replaced Bruno Silva (original band member) after his departure in 2013.
April 2016 also marks the return of HEAVENWOOD to Massacre Records, where the band‘s first two highly acclaimed albums
were originally released.
