Objectives:
• Identify the elements of smart building design
that should be visible in any sustainable facility
• Evaluate sustainable practices that meeting
professionals can reasonably expect from a
green meeting venue
• Select the best practices that planners and
suppliers can use to integrate green building
practices with any meeting

So…what is a green building?

Impact of U.S Buildings on Resources
13.6 Potable Water Consumption**
39% CO2 Emission*
40% Primary Energy Use*
72% Electricity Consumption*

CO2 Emissions 33%*** - 39%**
Water Use 40%**
Solid Waste 70%**

Green Building Occupants ARE Healthier and
More Productive
In the U.S. people spend, on average, 90% or
more of their time indoors*
Green buildings typically have better indoor air
quality and lighting

Buildings get certified…
Professionals get accredited…
Build, Renovate, Operate
For professionals who want to demonstrate green
building expertise in non-technical fields of
practice, GBCI has created the LEED Green
Associate credential, which denotes basic
knowledge of green design, construction, and
operations.
Build, Renovate, Operate
LEED AP
The LEED AP
credential will continue to signify an advanced
depth of knowledge in green building practices; it
also will reflect the ability to specialize in a
particular LEED Rating System. The LEED AP
exam is divided into two parts. The first part is the
LEED Green Associate exam, which demonstrates
general knowledge of green building practices.
The second part is a specialty exam based on one
of the LEED Rating Systems.
