roaming on our network Getting the most from your mobile in the Isle of Man. If you’re visiting our beautiful Island, this information guide tells you everything you need to know about using your mobile phone. Our network Manx Telecom is the Island’s main telecommunications operator for landlines, mobiles and Internet services. Our mobile network supports GSM, GPRS, 3G and HSDPA (‘3.5G’) services, which operates over GSM 900 Mhz frequency, so your mobile will need to work on this frequency or be a dual band GSM phone. Coverage Manx Telecom has the best coverage in the Isle of Man. Coverage is generally very good with over 98% 3G coverage availability.*, except in some mountainous or remote areas. Using your mobile As long as your mobile operator has a roaming agreement with Manx Telecom, you’ll be able to use your mobile while you’re in the Isle of Man. We have agreements with 300+ international operators. If you experience any problems, please contact your operator, or pop into our store to see if your SIM card will work on the Isle of Man. Making and receiving calls When you switch on your mobile when arriving in the Isle of Man, you should select Manx Telecom manually via your handset network settings - the display will usually read ‘Manx Telecom Mobile’, ‘Pronto GSM’ or ‘Manx’, although some handsets may display ‘234-58’ or ‘UK-58’ or ‘M’. When calling a landline or mobile outside the Island, you’ll need to use the full international code. The same applies if you want to call the mobile of someone from outside the UK who has travelled with you – your call will be charged at the international rate. This service is chargeable for all roaming customers using Manx Telecom’s network, but bear in mind that access to it may depend on your home operator. For emergency services please dial 999. Using data You can check with your operator to see if GPRS or 3G is available whilst roaming. Remember that data usage whilst roaming can be expensive. Please check with your operator for these charges before using a data connection. Manx Telecom’s PAYG SIM cards offer data at 3G speeds for 50p per MB (a £5 SIM pack includes 100MB of free data!) Using a Manx Telecom SIM If you’re spending more than a few days on the Isle of Man, you may wish to purchase a SIM card from our store which allows you to call/text and browse the web, which could provide savings on your roaming charges. Troubleshooting Please call in to our store in Strand Street, Douglas where we can advise on any roaming issues you may have during your stay should you have any of the following issues: • • • If you place one of our SIM cards into your handset and receive an error message or unlock code request. If you’re unable to pick up a signal, it may be because there is no roaming agreement in place between Manx Telecom and your home network. If you have a Pay As You Go SIM card, and receive signal but cannot make a call, it may be because you have insufficient credit to make a call?
