AUTUMN 2013
News from Sibbertoft
Welcome to the Autumn
edit ion of Sibbertoft
Manor’s quarterly newsletter.
SIBBERTOFT MANOR
NEWSLETTER
Firstly, we are very pleased
to tell you that Joan Martes,
a member of our night-staff,
gave birth to a healthy baby
boy, on the 2nd October—
many congratulations to
Joan and Bobby Martes.
At the time of our last
newsletter we were just
getting ready for Sibbertoft
Village’s Open Gardens—
we are very pleased to be
able to tell you that the village raised £3,314 for the
Reading Room, the Village
Church and equipment for
the village play area. Thank
you if you came! We were
also able to help with the
Village Fete in September—a request was made to
loan our two gazebos,
which we were very happy
to do, and we are able to tell
you that a record £1,900
was raised at this event!
We have had several different entertainments over the

past few months, including
a visit from Yelvertoft Ladies Choir in early July,
which is pictured above. It
was a lovely evening for
our residents, and the ladies
have very kindly offered to
come and visit us again on
the 10th December at 7pm
to sing some carols. All
friends and relatives are
welcome to join us as always—they are highly recommended by our Matron!
We have sadly said goodbye to Simon, our Saxophonist, who has returned
to his career as a tax advisor. David Plummer has
since been booked for our
saxophone events and was
able to perform to a large
audience on the patio for
his first visit! A new painting class has also recently begun, led by a
friend of Sibbertoft
Manor, Liz Greenhalgh. Liz has very
generously offered her
time to run classes on
the first Tuesday morning of each month. The
first two painting ses-
We also are very proud
to announce some of our
recent achievements, including the renewal of our
status as Investors in People; the highest food hygiene award of 5 from
Daventry District Council,
and the award of a Level 1
certificate in British Sign
Language to our Housekeeper Jodie Joyce!
Lastly, we are happy to
update you on several
building improvements
which we have been able to
undertake during the summer. Joiners have recently
been at work restoring the
wooden framed windows
around the home and the
paintwork on these has
now also been completed.
There has also been new
wallpaper put up in the
quiet lounge as a result of
the work on the front bay
window; a new path connecting the gardens of the
main home and garden
wing; a new pump for the
waste system in the garden
wing; and a much larger
fuel tank installed for the

More of our Macmillan Coffee Morning inside...
Charity—
We felt that all of our bakers had
made a fantastic effort and would like
to thank them for helping us to raise a
significant amount for Macmillan
Cancer support, to recognise their
wonderful efforts, each baker will
receive a voucher for cake and tea at
Kilworth House Hotel.
Last season our charity of choice was
Macmillan Cancer support. On Friday
27th September we joined in with their
‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’.
Some of our residents—Mollie, Valentine and Margaret B—very kindly
helped Sue to make some bunting for
the gates and our busy ladies had a bit
of a sing song whilst doing so! We had
invited our staff to participate in the
coffee morning by entering our CakeOff, with a prize of Full Afternoon Tea
for 4 at Kilworth House for the best
cake of the coffee morning.
On Friday morning we arrived to an
array of gorgeous cakes which were
sold in slices with coffee to raise
money for Macmillan. Our visitors
were asked to score the cakes they
tasted, rating them out of 5 on their
appearance, texture and taste. Sue
Beesley’s Lime and Courgette Cake
was the most popular cake of the morning by far and was evidently delicious,
with a score of 4.75 for appearance, 4.3
for texture and 4.8 for taste. Congratulations Sue!
We would also like to thank everyone
who attended; Mr Burton and Mr
Willis from Sibbertoft Village who
both very kindly gave generous donations, noting the worthiness of the
cause; those who helped to raise
funds by renting a stall for the
morning; and to Janet Matthews
for kindly volunteering to man
the plant stall for us! Present
were wonderful stalls from local
businesses: Farndon Fields;
Wendy Burton; Honey and Gunpowder; Lavender & Rose
Beauty and Massage, Fleurelle
and Paws for Walking. We were
overwhelmed with the support
from resident’s relatives and
friends of Sibbertoft Manor and
thank you for all your feedback on the
event. We are very proud to report
that in total the morning raised £466
for Macmillan Cancer Support!
This quarter we would like to support
the work of Harborough Against Bullying (HAB-Antibullying). This group
offers help, advice, and a listening ear
to anyone experiencing bullying. This
is a local charity, which has been
brought to our attention by a member
of our staff, AnneMarie Marlow, who
is a committee member for HAB and
is fundraising for the charity through
her performances as a vocalist. The
group is currently raising funds to pay
for some of their members to be
trained as counsellors via a Samaritans course—a course which in the
past cost £40 is now in the region of
£200. This will however mean that
fully qualified counsellors will be
available over the phone or online to
local children and adults who may be
experiencing bullying at school, in the
workplace, online or anywhere else.
We really look forward to fundraising
for this cause—please look out for our
Christmas Raffle, as all proceeds will
go to HAB!
MOVIE WEDNESDAYS
Photobooks
We have had a good response from our
request for photographs from resident’s
relatives, and 7 have been completed,
with another 2 on their way. The
photobooks enable small photographs
to be scanned into the computer and
vastly scaled up, which has been very
helpful for residents. Residents, relatives and staff have given lots of positive feedback so far!

It’s Showtime!
As you may have heard, we have recently been joined by SG Productions
for some very special entertainment.
In early July, we had our first visit
from a wonderful two-some for a
performance of ‘Summer Magic’. The
This was a one-woman performance
celebrating fabulous female singers

you may be able to join us when they

show took us on a trip around the
globe riding on some wonderful
tunes. After the show was hailed as
such a such as success with the residents, we booked a further show,
‘Thank You Ladies’ for early August.
