Volume 1, Edition 2
December 2015
From the CEO/Administrator
I
am wishing you all holiday greetings to
patients, residents, staff and friends; have a
happy healthy New Year. At Appleton Area
Health Services we are excited for what 2016 has
in store. We are currently working with Pope
Architects on a Master Facility Plan and intend to
be in the review process by the end of quarter
one in 2016. As we look at the future I would like
the opportunity to expand services at AAHS by
eventually building a larger OR suite, having
Assisted Living on campus, and increasing our
Patient/Resident Satisfaction Scores.
While the facility plan is progressing we will start
some projects right away. To better accommo
date patients in wheel chairs, we will be remod
eling our front entrance with a lower desk for
easier access along with new flooring in the
registration area. Internally, we will be introduc
ing a Patient/Resident Satisfaction Campaign
designed by Custom Learning Systems. Custom
Learning Systems is recognized as a leading
expert in helping organizations transform their
service delivery by creating a culture of engage
ment and accountability.
We have an excellent team at AAHS and they
deserve special recognition. Toward the end of
2015 we started an employee spotlight program
in The Appleton Press. You will see our employ
ees’ pictures with a short biography. You will also
find them on our Facebook page. I am also
excited to announce the newest addition to the
AAHS team, Ketura Isidor, PAC, featured on page
2. It will be wonderful to have a female provider
back in the facility to provide women’s health
services. We look forward to a better year serving
the Appleton community and the surrounding
area. Like our motto states, “we’re here for you!”
Best wishes to you and
your families in 2016.

EMPL0YEE SPOTLIGHT
Catching up with Dr. Bajwa
D
r. Bajwa’s experience, education and love
for rural areas have led his career to
Appleton Area Health Services. Dr. Bajwa
obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor
of Surgery in 2006 at Government Medical
College, Amritsar, India. He continued his educa
tion at the University of Central Oklahoma to
earn his Master of Science in Forensic Science in
2009. He started his internship and residency at
the University at Buffalo, NY and continued as
Chief Resident at Olean General Hospital from
20132015. His internship and residency program
had both urban as well as rural track. He is now
settled in to his position at AAHS and the city of
Appleton. His family loves Appleton, being from
a rural background, him and his wife feel closer
to their roots here.
When asked about AAHS, Dr. Bajwa responded,
“I have received so much love and acceptance
not only at AAHS but the community in general.
My perception of work/life balance has changed
quite a bit. Although I am working long hours
some days I still enjoy more free time at home
with family because of fewer stressors, such as
traffic and shorter commute to work. I have be
come an integral part of the community, and in
these five months my patients have not only
known me but established a level of trust with
me which gives me immense work satisfaction.”
When his patients come to see him, it is often
more than just an illness or a medical condition.
They bring their hopes and expectations with
them. Dr. Bajwa invests time in his patients to
listen to their concerns, assess their needs and
gets to know them on a more personal level. He
spoke of the team at AAHS highly, noting a good
sense of team spirit and humor, but not dimin
ishing the fact that the team is highly committed
and professional.
Dr. Bajwa’s Philosophy of Care, “It is all about
investing time and effort in building a relationship
Appleton Area Health Services is committed
to providing high quality health care services
in a personalized, compassionate manner, in
an environment which enhances human worth.

with patients. My favorite
part of my practice is the
long term relationships
you build with your
patients. The whole idea
behind settling down in
Appleton is that I want to
work, live and enjoy in the
same community. This
community has accepted
me with so much love and
this is my commitment to
provide the highest quality
of care to my patients. I
treat my patients as a
whole rather than an
isolated disease entity.”

New Faces
Big Stone Therapies
Big Stone Therapies (BST), connected to Appleton Area
Health Services (AAHS), has had a change in faces this year.
We would like to help welcome and recognize the new staff
members you will see around the facility. It is a great benefit
to patients and residents to have therapy services readily
available!
• Robin Redepenning is the new secretary. She handles day
to day office duties such as greeting customers, schedul
ing, billing, and therapist support.
• Adrian Olson is the new Physical Therapist Assistant. She
is directly involved in patient care treating patients in all
settings including inpatients, swing bed patients, nursing
home patients, home health patients, and outpatients.
• Carlene Porter is the new COTA. She is also involved in di
rect patient care in all of these areas.
BST has a great relationship with the providers at AAHS and
are able to work as a health care team which really helps to
ensure proper transition from different levels of care such as
acute care to swing bed to home health, and finally as an out
patient as needed.

Did you know BST also offer LSVT BIG and LOUD which is a
specialized program specifically tailored to patients with
Parkinson’s disease? They have seen dramatic results in this
area! In addition to this they treat vestibular and balance dis
orders and fall prevention. The speech therapist also has spe
cialized training in diagnosing and treating swallowing
disorders.

The New Year has a lot in store for Big Stone Therapies. They
are working on developing and increasing programs to in
clude more pediatric services and continuing their presence
at the local school.

WINTER GALA

5:30 – 10:00 p.m.
Shooter’s Bar & Grill, Appleton, MN
Eric Hunter has been performing comedy since the age
of 6, at a family picnic, when he got his very first laugh.
His grandmother scolded him for not eating all of his
dinner. "You know there are starving children in third
world countries who would love to eat that," she said.
"Well, here, send it to them," came his reply and upon
hearing his cousins' laughter he knew comedy was the
life for him! Eric now performs nonstop around the
country leaving his mark as a funny, bright, clean,
friendly and original performer.
Eric has performed with a wide range of comedians,
including Louie Anderson and Frank Caliendo. You can
currently see Eric perform on the Comedy Central. He
has also appeared 4 times on the nationally syndicated
"Bob and Tom Radio Show", and you can hear him on
XM satellite radio comedy channel 150.
