July 31 (Read-Only) - St. Benedict Cathedral
July 31, 2016
Beginning August 7,
SUNDAY MASSES
Saturday 4:30PM
(Rosary at 4:00)
Sunday 6:00AM,
(Rosary at 7:30)
and 10:30AM
From Father Godfrey
- As you read this, I’m in Italy. Somewhere in
Italy. The group I’m with will have sung at the
Basilica of St. Paul outside the Walls (the Benedictine Church in Rome) and the Basilica of
St. Francis in Assisi. In many different places,
I will have prayed for you and your intentions.
At the place where St. Peter died filled with
faith. At the tombs of Ss. Francis and Clare.
At the tomb of St. Paul. And in many other places, your hopes and
dreams, your needs and concerns, your preoccupations and worries
— they’ll have been my intentions at these wonderful places filled
with faith. Being in these magnificent places, I’m reminded that we
stand in a long, long line of wonderful, colorful, diverse people who
have done their best to be saints. St. Paul’s outrageous preaching.
St. Peter’s tough memories of the first Holy Week. St. Francis and
St. Clare doing their own seemingly small part that has become so
important in the life of the church. Popes elected to do the impossible-made-possible through faith in Jesus Christ. And that long,
long line of striving sinners has been the lifeline for us and for our
future and for our faith. So much of who we are today rests firmly
on the foundation that they provide for us. May God’s grace move
us to action to change our world. And that first action, that first
step, if it is to be effective at all, must be prayer. Hopeful prayer.
Convincing prayer. Sustaining prayer. There’s no doubt in my mind
that St. Francis would never have been able to envision just how
many gardens he’d watch over, how many religious he’d inspire,
how many sinners he’d encourage, through the simple, humble, but
effective work of changing his little part of the world. May God
give us just the same courage to inspire one another and help make
our world different, better, holier!
- Welcome to Fr. Steven Bauer, who comes to us to make an appeal for the Mary Mother of God Mission Society. We have the
opportunity to do something to help spread the faith, to help reenliven the Church, to help make a difference. Please be kind to
him as you so regularly are!
- Reminder that there will be a SECOND COLLECTION
NEXT WEEKEND, too, to benefit our own St. Vincent de Paul
Society and their work to help the poor. Once again, thanks for
your generosity.
- God willing, I’ll see you next weekend.
- Don’t forget the meeting described below:

like to order, please take part in our Schwan’s Cares program, which benefits our school financially. Also, save

St. Vincent de Paul
Last week, 8 St. Ben’s Vincentians
made 15 home visits where 29 people
in need reside (no one was at home at 5
households at the time of our visit).
With just under $900 of the alms you
entrusted to our care, we helped them
to pay on their delinquent bills for Rent (3), and Vectren
(2), and we gave Thrift Store vouchers for household
goods and bedding (3) and for clothing (2) at 5 of the
households. Thank you. God bless you.
Hospitalizations
Because of increased security of healthcare information, we are no longer informed when a parishioner is admitted to the hospital, especially if it's
through the Emergency department. Please call the
parish center when a family member is in the hospital and we will be happy to visit them. The same
goes for Nursing Homes, as well. Also, it's good to
be anointed before surgery. If you're preparing for
surgery, please ask a priest to anoint you beforehand.
