VINCENT FERRER AUGUST 14, 2016 FROM THE DEACON’S BENCH As Christians we look to grow in relationship with our God. Like any relationship, the key is to learn about the other. This is a never-ending process. As we attempt to grow in relationship with God, we need to learn more about our faith, our God. The Stewardship Committee felt that we might provide a relatively painless way to make progress toward that goal. In the bulletin every other week, there will be a short item either providing the definition of a word or phrase, or thoughts about our faith. ----We ask that you read the items and offer comments and suggestions for other topics to be addressed. VINCENT FERRER AUGUST 14, 2016 TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME MASS INTENTIONS Monday, August 15, 2016 The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 8:30 a.m. Thomas Glevicky REFLECTION Jesus’ words are challenging: “I have come to set the earth on fire,” “how great is my anguish,” “I have come to establish division.” Isn’t he the Prince of Peace and resurrected God of Mercy? We often need to hit bottom before we are willing to surrender and let God raise us up. Jesus’ ways challenge us and the world’s wisdom. Our closest family and friends can find them too difficult. Do not lose hope. Remember Paul’s words to the Hebrews: “Consider how [Jesus] endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.” Tuesday, August 16, 2016 St. Stephen of Hungary 8:30 a.m. Special Intention Wednesday, August 17, 2016 8:30 a.m. Johanna & Albert Riehle Thursday, August 18, 2016 8:30 a.m. Special Intention Friday, August 19, 2016 St. John Eudes 8:30 a.m. John & Nora Ewald Sunday Prayer 2010-2011 ©2010 Archdiocese of Chicago: Liturgy Training Publications. 1-800-933-1800. www.LTP.org All rights reserved. Volunteers to work the August schedule are still needed. The hours are 12:00 noon – 4:30 pm. Sunday afternoons. Check your calendar, encourage your friends to volunteer with you and help keep Bingo strong over the summer months. Please call Kevin Kellar (513) 886-1210 to volunteer. Thank you! BINGO AT ST.
