Notes
Learning (REAL) book give
away on June 27. Anybody can
drop any used books (please no
encyclopedias) at Tompkins Bank
of Castile lobby.
Ben Deragon and Jerry McCullough were both called for
missed meetings and Jerry was
also recognized for 15 years as a
Rotarian. The fining session was
full of valuable information such
as that June Dusen’s wedding
anniversary number, secret code
between Marlee Diehl and Tracy
Ford, the amazing numeric similiarities between President Randy
and Scott McCumiskey (Ben
Deragon and Christine Gephardt
had help from the peanut gallery).
Kim Cox got zero help with
Mid 70’s and a chance of
rain as President Randy rang
the meeting to order on the last
Wednesday in May!
Guests today were Candy
representing Sunshine Nursery
School, Amy James and Nancy
Ryan from Donate Life New
York State. Area 14 Assistant
Governor Marlee Diehl and her
husband Bill (he’s President of
the Albion Club) dropped in
because they can’t get enough of
the fun we have at our meetings.
And rounding out our guest
list was none other than Gary
Churchill of the Batavia Club!
Martha Bailey announced that
book donations are desperately
needed for Rotary Excited About
number of Rotary Clubs in the
world and had to pay. And Bob
“Sully” Sullivan played a quick
game of “buy it or sell it” to get
even on the Totem.
Our program today was Donate
Life NYS which encourages people to consider enrolling in the
Donor Registry for organs, eyes
and tissue. We were surprised to
learn that many of our United
States have as many as 80% of
their population enrolled. New
York has considerably less...
around 25%.
You must be 18 years of age
to register. Currently, you can
register by mail or at any DMV.

State Senate Passes Bill
Permitting Rifles for Deer Hunting
Legislation for Genesee County heads to State Assembly
A bill, S.1292, to allow the use
of rifles for big game hunting in
Genesee County has passed the
State Senate by a vote of 52 to 4.
State Senator Mike Ranzenhofer
is the bill’s author and sponsor in
the State Senate.
“In several areas of New York
State, sportsmen are allowed to
hunt deer with rifles, and this
change in law would allow the
use of rifles in Genesee County,”
said Ranzenhofer. “I am pleased
to report that the bill has passed
the State Senate, and I am hopeful that the State Assembly will
pass it before session ends next
month.”
Last fall, the Genesee County
Legislature and the Genesee
County Federation of Sportsman
Club requested the special legislation to be introduced at the
beginning of the 2015 Legislative
Session.
Existing environmental conservation law only authorizes the use
of pistols, shotguns, crossbows,
muzzle loading firearms or long
bows when hunting deer from
the first Saturday after November
15 through the first Sunday after
December 7.
The bill has been sent to the
State Assembly. Assemblyman
Stephen Hawley is sponsoring
the bill in the State Assembly. If
enacted into law, the bill would
take effect immediately.

LeRoy Nursery School had a visit from Emily Mikel the Genesee
County Dairy Princess. She lives in Stafford and raises dairy
cows. Every year she shows her cows at the County Fair. She
talked to the children about the importance of drinking milk
and the different foods made with milk. Pictured here they are
making butter and listening to a story about cows. A great way
to celebrate June being Dairy Month!

The Pre-K class at Love Bugs Preschool celebrated Dairy Days
at Mowacres Farm II this week. The children had a wonderful
time learning all about the animals on the farm and where milk
comes from. They saw cows being fed and milked. They also had
a chance to feed the cows and make their own butter. The children
went on a hay ride around the farm and had an ice cream snack.

Ford Bell -- It Was Worth Waiting Eight Years –
Welcome To The Jell-O Museum
by Lynne Belluscio
Today I was sitting in the library talking with George Henry
and his wife, and Terry came in
and gave me a business card and
said “This man is here to see
you.” I think I said something like
– “You’ve got to be kidding. Ford
Bell is here?” and I ran out into
the hall. Sure enough it was Ford
Bell! I don’t suspect anyone in
LeRoy knows him or knows who
he is, but in the museum world,
Ford Bell is “the man.” He is
the President of the Alliance of
American Museums - - AAM in
Washington, D.C.
Eight years ago, I was at the
AAM annual meeting in Chicago, representing the Association
of Living History, Farms and
Agricultural Museums. I had to
attend the Council of Affiliates
meeting, which includes the
presidents of a variety of museum
organizations - - art museums,
zoos, science museums, history
museums, botanical gardens,
railroad museums, and museum
volunteer organizations.
In the evening, hundreds of
AAM members boarded buses
for tours of museums in Chicago.
I boarded a bus, and as I climbed
aboard, this man stuck out his
hand and said, “Hi, I’m Ford
Bell. I’m the new president of
AAM.” “Glad to meet you. I’m
Lynne Belluscio – the Director
of the Jell-O Museum in LeRoy,
New York. And, if you’re ever in
Western New York, I hope you’ll
stop to see the Jell-O Museum.”
“I sure will. My wife’s family is
from that part of the state.”
I have to be honest, AAM, in
my mind, had always been an
association for the “big guys” - - the Smithsonian, the Getty, the
Met. They were the museums that
carried the clout in Washington.
Even by AAM’s definition the
Jell-O Gallery barely fits into the
category of a “small museum.”
But Ford Bell came to AAM with
a vision and an appreciation for
all museums, big and small. He
understood the importance and
contributions that museums were
making. I watched as AAM, under his guidance, grew to embrace
all of us.
Two years ago he did an interview with CNN and commented
on the status of museums in the
United States. The statistics are
overwhelming: “Museums invest
more than $2 billion in education
programs each year. Museums in
this country welcome some 90
million school children each year
. . . these field trips are extensions
of the classroom. Museums are
also economic engines for communities large and small. One
statistic I never tire of citing has
been cited by the U.S. Conference
of Mayors. They say that, for
every $1 a municipality invests in
cultural organizations, including
museums, $7 are returned to the
public coffers. That’s a return
that would make Warren Buffett
swoon.” But the importance of
museums went far beyond the
financial impact and Ford Bell
understood that too.
I was elated to see that he had
agreed to be the keynote speaker
at the Museum Association of
New York’s meeting in Corning
last month. I knew that his presentation would be insightful and
profound. I planned on meeting
him and inviting him to LeRoy
again but could only get away for
one day and reluctantly decided
not to attend the day he was there.
So it was astounding today that
he said to me, “Hey, I thought
I might see you in Corning,”
And I had to apologize. “I really
wanted to be there, but I was in
the middle of school programs.”
It has been announced that
Ford Bell has retired from AAM.
Yesterday was his last day on the
job, and today - - his first day of
retirement, he came to the Jell-O
Museum - - just for the fun of it.
I am going to miss knowing
that “my friend Ford Bell” isn’t
in Washington advocating for all
of us - - big and small. I know he
is heading home to Minnesota,
where his grandfather founded
General Mills. Where Ford followed in the family tradition of
public service. He was a teacher
and holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He served on the
advisory board of the Museum of
Natural History at the University
of Minnesota. He serves as chairman of the James Ford Bell Foundation and has been a trustee of the
Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He
has also served as President and
CEO of the Minneapolis Heart
Institute Foundation. He was a
candidate for the Senate in 2006.
As a board member of the
Greater Minneapolis Council
of Churches, he helped build a
center for families from West
Africa in need of job training and
housing. “Mr. Bell’s many public
service endeavors underscore
his commitment to developing
organizations and strengthening
communities.”
Sometimes when you least
expect it, something or someone comes into your life that
gives you a kick start. No doubt
about it, today was one of those
days.

A’s 5 Indians 4
The A’s faced the Indians for the second time this
season. The see-saw battle turned into a pitchers dual
as the two teams pitchers did a great job of quieting
the bats. The Indians struck first at the top of 1 when
Maveric McKenzie scored after drawing a walk and
scoring on a wild pitch. For the first time all season
the A’s went down in order in the top of the first as it

Fix and Robinson combined for a two hitter, striking
out 9 while walking 5 Indian batters. For the Indians,
Moribito and Vanderhoof combined to allow 6 hits,
striking out 10 A’s and walking 6 in the loss.
Twins 4 Yankees 3
This matchup was a Friday night battle between
The Twins and Yankees. It would take nine innings of
baseball to decide it. This game had it all, good pitching,
good hitting and great plays in the field. Mix in some
bunts for base hits and aggressive base running and
you have a very entertaining contest. The pitching was
solid for both clubs. The Twins started Colin McCulley
and he gave a strong performance with eight k’s and
pitching into the fifth inning. Joey Brennan came in
and was outstanding in relief. The Yankees staff was
equally effective. They started Cody Lytle and he was
in command until he was replaced by Ryan Shirley.
Shirley would go two innings doing well on the hill.
He was then relived by Zach Baker who took it the
rest of the way.
The Yankees had the bats going quickly. Cody Lytle
started off the game with a double and would be knocked
in by a single from Ryan Higgins. They would tack on
a run in the third from a Lytle triple and a Ryan Shirley
single. Then another in the fifth courtesy of a Lytle
single and some aggressive base running.
The Twins would fight their way back into the game
before winning in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the
ninth. Xavian Walker had his first Little League hits this
game and the timing couldn’t of been better. He was able
to get on base with a bunt, then Colin McCulley would
single. Ethan Beswick would lace a double scoring both
Walker and McCulley. In the fifth the Twins would tie
it up with a single from Cole Rauscher, a stolen base
and a single from Joey Brennan.
The next run wouldn’t cross the dish until the bottom
of the ninth. However from the fifth to the ninth there
would be some fantastic plays in the field. Zach Baker
made a couple of huge plays from the mound and Zach
Tooley made a fine run saving catch in left field. In the
sixth inning the Yankees had bases loaded with one
out. The Twins drew their infield in and Colin McCulley
caught a line drive rocket off the bat of Cody Lytle.
However most dramatic situation came in the bottom
of the ninth when Xavian Walker, the speedy lefty, laid
down the perfect bunt and reached first base. Colin
McCulley then singled to center. The next batter was
Ethan Beswick. He would rope a double scoring Walker
from second and giving the Twins the win.
Hitting for the Yankees were Cody Lytle with a single,
double and triple. Merritt Holley and Brett Babcock
both had two singles. Zach Baker had a double, and
Ryan Higgins, Ryan Shirley, Ian Frawley and Kenny
Brownell all had hits.
The Twins were led at the plate by Ethan Beswick, he
had two doubles. Colin McCulley and Xavian Walker
each had two singles. Cole Rauscher had a double and
single. Lily Uberty blasted a shot to the left center gap
for a stand up double. Jackson Locke rounded out the
hitting for the Twins with a single.
Red Sox 9 Yankees 8, F/10
The Red Sox and Yankees got together on Saturday
and the results were a game for the ages, a LeRoy Little
League instant-classic. The game went 10 innings
of heart-pounding baseball that Red Sox ultimately
won 9-8.
The game started out with the Red Sox striking first,
scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st. The Yankees answered with 2 runs of their own in their half of the 1st.

lead 7-5. It stated that way until the top of the 6th when
the Red Sox rallied for 2 runs to make the score 7-7.
The scoring stayed that way until the 10 inning when
Ben Pocock stepped up to the plate. His 2 run single
gave the Red Sox a 9-7 lead. The Yankees rallied for
a run in the bottom of the 10th but fell short by 1 run.
The game was highlighted by numerous outstanding
defensive plays by both teams. The best being in the 10th
inning. John Panepento made a fully extended play on a
ball up the middle from his shortstop position and threw
out the runner at first base for the first out of the inning
and Andrew Pocock ended the game on a courageous,
sliding catch from his center field position with the
tying run on 3rd base. The catch ended an action packed
game that had everybody saying “Wow , what a game!”

for the Red Sox. They both recorded 4 hits. Panepento
added 3 runs scored. Grant Gilligan (3 hits including a
double and 2 runs scored), Andrew Loftus ( I hit, 3 runs
scored), Michael Covert( 2 hits, 1 run scored) and Tony
Piazza ( 1 hit) all made contributions.

hits, 3 of them doubles and 1 run scored. Ryan Shirley
and Merritt Holley added 2 hits apiece. Rounding out the
offensive stars for the Yanks were Cody Lytle( double
and 2 runs scored), Ryan Higgins, Brett Babcock, Ian
Frawley added a hit apiece while Aaron Leone and Zach
Tooley each scored a run.
On the Jimmy Burns started for the Red Sox. He
went the first 3 innings striking out 6. Panepento then
pitched the next 2 innings. He struck out 2. But the
hero was Gilligan. Grant pitched the final 5 innings of
relief. He pitched out of several jams to earn the win.
He struck out 10.
Starting for the Yankees was Lytle. Cody pitched the
first 4 innings striking out 8. Aaron Leone was outstanding in relief he pitched the last 6 innings striking out 6.
A’s 13 Tigers 3
A’s pitcher Aiden Robinson was the story of this
game between the A’s and Tigers. Robinson pitched a
complete game allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking
out 4. Robinson was the beneficiary of strong defense
by the A’s throughout the game. Robinson also helped
himself at the plate going 5 for 5 with a triple, 5 RBI’s
and one run. Chase Bordonaro continued his hot hitting
going 4 for 4 with 5 runs and 2 RBI’s. Jackson Fix had
two hits, with one RBI and two runs while playing great
defense at second base. Older brother Brady also had
two hits, two runs and an RBI. Jake Marcello, Ayden
Riggi and Brian Roblee also scored runs for the A’s.
For the Tigers, Cam Green and Gianni Ferrera combined to strike out 6 A’s on the mound. Ferrera also
had two hits and scored a run at the plate. Giavanni
Caccamise had two hits and two runs scored while

time this year. The Twins started out hot at the plate.

consecutive doubles by Ethan Beswick, Cole Rauscher
and Joey Brennan. Lily Uberty would also single in the
first. The Twins would score three runs in the inning(
McCulley, Beswick, Rauscher). The Indians would respond in their half of the inning. Tommy Condidorio had
