REKINDLING THE FLAME
“Stir up the inner-fire, the gift God gave you….”
2Timothy 1:6
Life on the other side of Easter can be a very strange thing. For Lent,
some of us give up some unhealthy attitudes and habits just to return
to them on the other side of Easter.
After Easter, we are once again tempted to succumb to the things we
gave up for a season. We go back to where we were and what we were
before Easter came along and interrupted us with all of its power and
transformation. In John 21, some of the disciples seem to be following
this path. A few days after the Resurrection, Peter says, “I’m going
fishing,” and six of the other disciples decided to go with him. Back to
the real world, right?
The Resurrection is God's way of getting our attention. It’s God's way of
getting us to stop and tune in so we will follow the way of Jesus. There
was nothing quiet about Easter. The Bible says, "Suddenly there was a
violent earthquake." An angel of the Lord rolled away the stone blocking
the entrance to the tomb. His face shone like lightning. At the sight of
him, the Roman guards shook with fear and became like dead men.
And God was saying “Do you hear me now?” Christian faith began with
a bang! Jesus got up on the third day.
God really does know how to get our attention. For many of us, it takes
an “earthquake” just to do that. How does God get our attention today?
There are many ways, or course, but I know for sure that sometimes we
experience a profound moment of insight in a moment of crisis. We
have our “Aha” moment. We say: “Now I understand. I see what it all
means."
Once God gets our attention though, the question is – can he keep
our attention? It’s interesting that when Jesus appeared to the seven
disciples, who had returned to fishing, they didn’t recognize him at first.
But their faith was still there – shaky as it was. “It’s the Lord!” yelled
John, and they joined him for breakfast, and he ministered to them.
This story is a good word for us to keep the faith. Jesus will nurture our
Easter transformations, even though we might not recognize him at
first. Pay attention. You’ll know it when it’s him.
Until later……grace and peace to you! Rik

Prime Timers May Meeting
Don’t Miss This Opportunity!
At our May meeting, (May 8) we will have
our regular pot-luck lunch and follow it with
discussion about the future of Prime Timers.
Do we want to change the format of the meetings? Meet monthly, quarterly? Change the
name? Have speakers or play games? What
would you like to see happen from June forward?
Please be a part of the decision! Come and
bring all of your ideas!

Children’s Camps
The theme for Oklahoma United Methodist Camps
this summer is #Inspired. There are several
opportunities for children to learn more about
God, help others and come home as witnesses to
the mission of Jesus Christ. Children at Village
UMC attend camp at Canyon Camp near Hinton.
Those entering grades 1 and 2 can be SonShine
campers June 21-22 or July 12-13. Growin’ In
Grace campers are entering grades 3-5. Their
choices are June 9-11, June 11-13, July 14-16 or
July 16-18. Joy Camp is also for children entering
grades 3-5 and is June 20-22. Our church pays
for half of the camp cost. If you are interested or
want more details, contact Martha Pendleton.
Quarters for Blessing
As our Quarters for Blessing program continues,
many thanks go out to each person who has given
quarters this year. As of March 31, $431.50 has
been donated, deposited into a fund for the Staff
and Parish Relations Committee to support the
church staff.
Special thanks to every lady who contributed her
time in planning, designing, and shopping for the
remodel of the ladies’ restroom just outside of
Fellowship Hall. And thanks to everyone who
made a donation for the project.
Beautiful job, ladies. Thanks for all the hard work!
The idea behind this program is to place a quarter
in the offering plate (just quarters—no bills!) for
each blessing that you receive during the week.
On your birthday or anniversary, drop in a quarter
for each year you are celebrating. The birth of a
child or grandchild, an engagement or wedding, or
perhaps special time spent with a friend—all are
blessings for which we are grateful. How about
the blessing of spending time in God’s Word, and
knowing that a specific verse is speaking just to
you? As we develop the ability to spot these blessings scattered throughout our normal days, our
spiritual eyesight is sharpened, and we begin to
get a glimpse of just how much God loves
us. Thanks for blessing us as you are blessed.
