WBKA Hans De Jong Seminar 29th March 2015
WBKA, President Carl Withey & Kyoshi Pete
Pace brought out Soke Hans De Jong all the
way from WA for a seminar in Adelaide on 29th
March, 2015 hosted at Hikari Aikido in
Ottoway, Adelaide run by Sensei Tony Rickets.
The seminar ran for 4 hours during which
Soke Hans de Jong taught seminar participants
an array of jujutsu techniques including knife
defences, trapping, locks, takedowns and
chokes. It was well attended by juniors and
seniors from WBKA clubs around Adelaide.
Soke Hans de Jong is the son of famous Shihan
Jan de Jong who graded him in jujutsu. Soke
Hans de Jong has also obtained Dan grades in
Aikido & Shotokan Karate, in addition to
studying Pencak Silat, Eskrima and Taekwondo.
“Another full seminar with Master Hans De Jong
sharing his outstanding knowledge with
everyone. Special thanks to Craig sensei who
also travelled with Sensei De Jong and was his uke for the weekend.
Thank you to Tony Ricketts Sensei and his students for hosting the seminar.
Book your place for the next meeting of styles in May, 2015!
Be part of the most active martial art association in Australia, with branches in Europe,
Africa and USA.
Carl Withey, President WBKA”
"Since my first introduction to the art of Ju Jutsu, close to 70 years ago,
it has always fascinated me. Although it is a fighting art, the greater the knowledge
one gains, the more relevance one can see it has to another art
- the art of living." Shihan Jan de Jong.
I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank Soke Hans de Jong and Craig Sensei
for making the long journey from WA and great effort to come out to Adelaide and teach
us. I also want to thank WBKA for making this and many opportunities over the past 3
years available to us all. John Alford

WBKA Meeting of Styles Seminar 3rd May 2015 - Camden Park Ju-Jitsu
The World Budo Kan
Association ‘Meeting of
Styles’ Seminar on 3rd May,
2015 was Hosted by Sensei
Darren Miles at his Camden
Park Ju-Jitsu Club.
Carl Withey Sensei
The day began with Kyoshi
Carl Withey (WBKA)
teaching some exciting defences
from one arm and two arm grabs
from the rear with locks & throws.
Carl Sensei used Jamie (WBKA),
Jason (Tugra Shan Martial Arts)
and others as his Uki.
His teaching is always exciting and as well as catering for more advanced students, the
techniques are also reasonably easy to follow
participants less experienced in martial arts.
Dominic Sensei from Goshin Ryu Bujutsu
taught effective defences from a haymaker with
follow up attacks. Dominic Sensei displayed a bit of
humour keeping all especially the juniors focused
and interested.
John Alford Sensei from Tugra Shan
Martial Arts taught defences off a Reverse
Punch and followed up with a set of lock flows.
Dominic Sensei
Richard Harding Sensei from Tugra Shan
Martial Arts added further to these defences by
showing some variations. Jason Nagy Sensei, Tugra Shan Martial Arts, conducted
a short demonstration of trapping & one handed locking chokes.
All participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves having the opportunity to learn a
variety of techniques from different instructors. They also got the opportunity to mix with
other clubs, meet new people and make new friends. Congratulations to Kyoshi Carl
Withey, Kyoshi Pete Pace and Sensei Darren Miles for organising this seminar and
providing this fantastic opportunity.
