Liturgies and Paraliturgies
Including Mass Intentions
Pastor’s Corner
My Dear Friends,
Many thanks for everyone who
made our annual Vacation Bible
School such a great success! We
had so many kids sign up, that we
were not able to accommodate
everyone
who
wanted
to
participate.
This Thursday, we will celebrate Independence Day in the United
States. On that day, we celebrate the birth of our nation and thank
God for all of the many blessings he has showered on us as a
people.
Our nation has been blessed beyond measure with every good thing
under the sun. That is indeed good news. However, we must never
forget what Jesus reminded us: The more that has been given to
you, the more will be expected of you. Therefore, no people on
Earth should be more generous than Americans.
Please pray for Christian Cook, the seminarian from our parish.
The bishop told me today that Christian has decided to study for
the priesthood in a different diocese. Pray that God will bless
Christian and light his path brightly.
On July 11th, we will have our Summer Anointing Mass at 7 p.m.
At that Mass, we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Sick. If you
believe are ill in mind, body, or spirit, you might like to take
advantage of this opportunity.
The new Catholic Center at 7200 Stonehenge Dr. in Raleigh is
quite beautiful. Having meetings there is a real treat. This is a
photo of the place.

Pope Francis Bus Scholarship
IN HONOR OF OUR NEW POPE
St. Mary Faith Formation ministry is starting a bus pass campaign in honor of our
new Pope and we’re asking for your help! As the Archbishop of Buenos Aires,
Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio gave up his limousine and chauffeur, preferring
to ride the bus. In our area there are teens and adults in need of bus passes in
order to go to work and to school. Please prayerfully consider purchasing a bus
pass or donating money. Drop it off with your child’s Faith Formation catechist.
The funds and passes will be given directly to Sr. Isaac to be distributed to those
in need. Please contact John Walsh, St. Mary DRE, with any questions,
[email protected] or 910.762.5491 x114.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Diocese of Raleigh
Week 1
Introduction to Church Teaching on Immigration
Over the next several weeks, we will begin a series in our parish bulletin
on the topic of the teaching of the Church on Comprehensive Immigration Reform, provided by the Diocese of Raleigh, Office of Pro-Life.
The issue of immigration reform is important to Catholics because it
touches on the fundamental human dignity of our brothers and sisters.
An immigration reform bill has been introduced in the U.S. Senate and is
currently under debate. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops supports immigration reform that is comprehensive in nature and
that facilitates the following goals:
•
•
•
•
•
Provides a path to citizenship for undocumented persons in our
country;
Preserves family unity as a corner-stone of our national immigration
system;
Provides legal paths for low-skilled immigrant workers to come and
work in the United States;
Restores due process protections to our immigration enforcement
policies; assurance that our laws are enforced in ways that recognize the importance the sanctity of the human person, the incomparable value of the family and maintains the integrity of our national
borders;
Addresses the root causes of migration, such as persecution and
economic disparity.
•
To learn more about the teaching of the Church on immigration or to be
involved in advocacy, go to: www.usccb.org/about/migration-andrefugee-services/index.cfm#immigration

Office of Social Ministry
Sister Isaac
There are two points that we might want to
reflect upon in today’s Scripture that nourishes our
involvement in social outreach.
The first one is the image mentioned in all
three readings, FIRE. One property of fire is that of
light; another is heat. At the time of Pentecost we recall that it was said
that it looked as if “tongues of fire” rested upon the heads of those
disciples gathered in the Upper Room. The Holy Spirit has come to us,
through our Baptism, to ignite our spirits and move us to action to bring
the Good News of Jesus to all we meet. We are to be a light to others.
The second point is found in Paul’s message to the Galatians.
He says “…the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall
love your neighbor as yourself”.
Last week an elderly gentleman asked for some help with
gasoline for his car, so he might get back and forth to the doctor. He
receives Social Security, but as he said, he robs Peter to pay Paul, as he
struggles to cover his monthly bills. And he added…”If this ministry did
not help me over the past years, I would be dead. It helped me with my
health issues before I was able to receive Medicare, and now it helps me
with my other needs, for example, providing me with some gasoline.”
On a busy Monday morning in June, that is one encouraging
message to receive! He is one of the many who inspire us to go the extra
mile. As we say so often here at the Ministry, we receive much more than
we give! He stokes the fire and ignites the light that helps us reach out to
our neighbors in need. Happy July 4th!

Year of the Faith 2012—2013
During the Year of Faith, the Diocese will provide parishes
with weekly Faith Briefs. The Briefs will be taken from the
Catechism and Vatican II documents, the significance of which
Pope Benedict XVI noted in his Year of Faith decree. This
week’s offerings are from the Sacrosanctum Concilium
While the liturgy daily builds up those who are within into a holy temple of the
Lord, into a dwelling place for God in the Spirit [3], to the mature measure of the
fullness of Christ [4], at the same time it marvelously strengthens their power to
preach Christ, and thus shows forth the Church to those who are outside as a
sign lifted up among the nations [5] under which the scattered children of God
may be gathered together [6], until there is one sheepfold and one shepherd [7].
3. Wherefore the sacred Council judges that the following principles concerning
the promotion and reform of the liturgy should be called to mind, and that practical norms should be established.
Among these principles and norms there are some which can and should be
applied both to the Roman rite and also to all the other rites. The practical norms
which follow, however, should be taken as applying only to the Roman rite, except for those which, in the very nature of things, affect other rites as well.

We all have our bumps in the road, but once in
awhile, a St. Mary School family experiences a
Random Act of Misfortune that suddenly wipes
out a child’s chance to con1nue Catholic educa1on.
In one recent spectacular Random
Act of Kindness, an anonymous donor stepped
forward to fund a Child’s en1re tui1on for a year
when the student’s family suddenly couldn’t pay.
St. Mary Shool offers tui1on assistance, but we
have no endowment upon which to draw and no
reserve fund for helping family emergencies.
Would you consider making a giB – a
Random Act of Kindness – to lend a hand when a
student’s family simply can’t make it financially
and must drop out of St. Mary School?
