Rossell recapped a positive 2013 fiscal year,
citing a 52 percent jump in Japan’s Nikkei and
a 3 percent growth in the U.S. economy while
the deficit fell to 4.1 % of the gross domestic
product. She also highlighted how three major
economic threats from 2013 – the fiscal cliff, a
European breakup and a hard landing in China
– no longer threaten the 2014 U.S. economy.
As she drilled down economic expectations for
Atlanta in particular, Rossell used Delta Airlines
as a metaphor for what to expect in 2014. Last
year, Atlanta’s largest employer streamlined
operations, underwent a merger and beefed up
international routes, resulting in stock prices
that more than doubled. If the city of Atlanta
follows those same guidelines, Rossell predicts
the city will experience similar growth and see
its unemployment rate fall to 6.5 percent in
2014.
Her investment tip for 2014 - look to emerging
markets for investments while waiting for two to
three years for bonds.
