gbr TheSeaCell® activefiber Cellulose~Seaweed~Silver ~ The SeaCell®active fiber ~ Advantages and benefits SeaCell®active is a cellulose fiber containing seaweed (e.g. ascophyllum nodosum) and enriched with silver. The idea behind SeaCell®active is actually quite simple: The natural raw materials cellulose and seaweed represent the basis for the manufacture of the SeaCell®active fiber employing the "Lyocell process". Thanks to the seaweed present in SeaCell®active, a durable and wash-resistant incorporation of silver ions in the fiber can be achieved in an additional production step. The unique combination of cellulose, seaweed and silver makes for the long-lasting antimicrobial effect of SeaCell® active. ~ Seaweed as an active substance Seaweed is added as the active substance for a good reason. The fact that this marine plant is rich in various minerals, trace elements, carbohydrates, fats and vitamins, has been well-known since the times of Chinese medicine. Moreover, seaweed has been proved to protect the skin and exhibit anti-inflammatory properties, which also unfold in the SeaCell®activefiber. – Increased hygiene due to antibacterial and fungicide effects – Breathable – Soft – Anti-odour – Activates cell metabolism – Supports skin blood flow – Stimulates skin cell regeneration – Pleasant touch, comfortable feel Carbohydrates Amino acids Vitamins Minerals Alginic acid Arginine Ascorbic acid Aluminium Laminarin Aspargine Carotinoids Calcium Mannitol Valine Tocopherols Magnesium Sodium Potassium ~ How is the antimicrobial effect achieved? The SeaCell®active fiber is enriched with durably incorporated silver, which provides an antimicrobial effect – and hence a wonderfully clean feeling. The (positively charged) silver ions integrated in the fiber reduce the SeaCell® active fabric – Microbe Skin SeaCell® active fabric + + + + Destruction of microbe Ag+ Ion + Skin Ag+ Ion + microbe growth in the fabric and hence inhibit microbe growth on the skin beyond the natural level. The antimicrobial effect of SeaCell active remains unchanged even after numerous washing cycles. The SeaCell®active fiber is non-cytotoxic (cytotoxic refers to the property of substances or certain cells to destroy other cells) and, therefore, well tolerated by the skin. A patch test (skin test to examine allergic reactions to substances) demonstrated that the SeaCellactive fiber does not cause any allergic reactions and irritations on sensitive skin. Silver, which is not known to have any negative side effects, has fungicide and antimicrobial properties in the fiber and hence in the fabric (antimycotic and antibacterial). This was confirmed by the examinations conducted at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and in standardized test series at the Hohenstein Research Institute. Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena
