A vacation is a time for relaxing, de-stressing, and spending quality time with your loved ones. But if you
aren't careful, one small mistake can spoil your fun. These vacation spoilers have ruined their share of
trips, but you can take travel health steps to make sure they don't happen to you.
 Sunburn savvy. Reduce your risk of sunburn by regularly slathering on sunscreen with an SPF of
at least 30, and keep track of the time so you know when to reapply. Don’t fall asleep lounging by
a pool or on the beach. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, long-sleeved shirt, and pants, and stay in the
shade from 10 am to 4 pm, when the sun's rays are the strongest.
 Travelers' diarrhea dos and don’ts. Many vacationers traveling abroad develop travelers'
diarrhea, especially when visiting Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Help prevent
it by avoiding food and beverages from unhygienic establishments like street vendors, eat only
fully cooked meat and seafood, consume only bottled water and beverages, and eat only fruits and
vegetables that you peel yourself or that are served fully cooked.
 Constipation caution. Constipation is often related to changes in your schedule, activities, and
eating patterns. To help you stay regular while traveling, eat a well-balanced diet that’s rich in
whole grains and safe produce, drink plenty of water, exercise, and go to the bathroom when you
feel the urge.
 Hangover helper. You can reduce your risk of a hangover by limiting your alcohol intake,
staying hydrated with non-alcoholic beverages, drinking no more than one drink an hour, and
sipping clear alcoholic choices such as gin or vodka over darker liquor such as red wine, whiskey,
or tequila.
 Overeating overruled. You can enjoy local foods on vacation and still keep calories in check by
indulging in only small samples of high-calorie dishes, sharing entrees with your travel
companions, and eating at regular mealtimes. If you do overindulge once or twice while on
vacation, remember that a few dieting "mistakes" won't sidetrack your good health, as long as you
return to your healthy habits when you get home.
 Overspending alert. Plan ahead and map out a vacation budget before you leave home. Write
down all of your expected expenses, set a spending limit for each of them, and put aside a little
money to cover unforeseen fun expenses, like that souvenir you simply must have.
It is no fun to think about everything that could go wrong when you are on vacation, but by anticipating
potential vacation spoilers and figuring out ways to avoid them, you can make your vacation the fun and
relaxing trip you deserve.

and Trinity College. Heading west, stop in Kildare at the Irish National Stud, in St. Patrick’s Cashel, and in Tipperary, made famous in the wartime marching song. On to Limerick for an orientation drive, then stop in Ennis for two nights. From here, an included excursion shows off stunning views from the Cliffs of Moher. Also enjoy Irish hospitality at Rathbaun Farm, where you’ll
see a farmer shear a sheep and use a sheep dog to move his flock. Next, ferry across the Shannon estuary and travel around the
famed Ring of Kerry. Spend the night in Killarney and stop in Blarney to kiss the magical “blarney stone.” In Waterford, visit the
world-famous crystal factory; see Ireland’s oldest hand weaving mill at Avoca; cross through the Wicklow Mountains; and take a
guided tour of St. Kevin’s 6th-century center of Irish Christianity in Glendalough. Return to Dublin for the conclusion of your Irish
journey.
GERMANY Start in Berlin, with guided sightseeing that includes a visit to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. South
to marvel at the baroque splendor of Dresden, then enjoy sightseeing in magnificent Prague that features the 1,000-year-old
Hradcany Castle grounds. Stop in Bratislava, the economic and political center of the Slovak Republic, on your way to Budapest
for guided sightseeing that includes Fishermen’s Bastion and the 13th-century Matthias Coronation Church. Arrive in Vienna,
with guided sightseeing of the major sights and a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The vacation ends in Vienna, where optional
excursions are available to Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna Woods, or a concert at a Vienna concert hall.
BRITAIN Guided sightseeing shows you all the famous landmarks in London: Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey,
Buckingham Palace, and visits to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Changing of the Guard, if held. Head southwest to admire the
breathtaking gardens at Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace, then venture on to prehistoric Stonehenge, the Roman excavations
of Bath, the Cotswolds village of Stow, Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon, and picturesque Llangollen in North
Wales. Travel north through the Lake District, pausing in Wordsworth’s Grasmere and Gretna Green before arriving in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. Admire the Crown Jewels at Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, and Sir Walter Scott’s Abbotsford
House. In medieval York, enjoy a walking tour that features York Minster and the narrow Shambles. Return to London by way
of the market town of Stamford and the university city of Cambridge.
SPAIN This adventure includes 2-night stays in Madrid, Costa del Sol, and Seville, giving you plenty of time to immerse
yourself in the local culture. Guided sightseeing shows off the important highlights, like Madrid’s Prado Museum, Toledo’s
Church of Santo Tomé with one of El Greco’s most famous paintings, Granada’s Alhambra and Water Gardens of the Generalife, and Seville’s cathedral with Columbus’ tomb. With your free day in Torremolinos, enjoy the beaches or browse through
the trendy boutiques. Other features are visits to historic Ronda and a sherry bodega in Jerez. On the way back to Madrid, stop in
Cordoba to visit the Mosque of the Caliphs, famous for its 850 pillars of porphyry, marble, and jasper.
