The Easter Vigil is quite literally an awesome celebration for both the
local and universal Church. This year, we at IHM welcomed 23 people
into communion with the Catholic Church (not counting the 20 who
were baptized and/or confirmed on Easter Sunday and the 60
candidates this weekend!).


MEN’S CLUB MEETING
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Thursday, April 16
IHM Men's Club will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday,
April 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Dinner is included
for $10 (newcomers are free).
July 13-17
Vacation Bible School at Immaculate Heart of Mary is
sponsored by the Parish Women's Club.
Our speaker will be parishioner Raul Alfonso, who will be
talking about the upcoming alternate IHM Mustard Seed trip to
the Dominican Republic in July.
INSTALLATION MASS FOR MONSIGNOR JOWDY
Saturday, June 13
There will be an Installation Mass for our new pastor,
Monsignor Albert Jowdy, at the 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on
Saturday, June 13, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary. A reception will follow in the Historic Church.
The theme for 2015 will be
"Cathletics! Training to be
Champions for Christ" and will
be held July 13-17, from 9:00
a.m. - Noon, with a closing Mass
on Sunday, July 19 at 9:00.

MARRIAGE PREP AT HOLY SPIRIT
Saturday, April 18
Building Your Marriage Before It Starts is a one-day
parish-based marriage preparation workshop developed by
Grace and Growth Counseling Center and Holy Spirit Catholic
Church. It will be Saturday, April 18, at Holy Spirit Catholic
Church, 4465 Northside Drive NW. Mary Ellen Hughes and
Linda Sweeney team with Father Paul Burke and Stephen and
Ellen Cocks, a married couple of the parish, to present the
workshop.
The cost of the workshop and the workbook is $150 per
couple. Registration is required by April 14, 2015. This
workshop fulfills the marriage prep requirements of the
Archdiocese of Atlanta. For more information or to register,

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER
FORTUNATE FAMILIES
Sunday, April 26
Fortunate Families Atlanta, the archdiocesan approved ministry
for families with LGBT members, will host a very special
meeting on Sunday, April 26 following the 11:00 a.m. Mass at
the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 48 MLK Jr. Drive,
Atlanta 30303. An ecumenical panel including representatives
from the Evangelical, Protestant, Jewish, and Catholic communities will discuss efforts to welcome and value their LGBT
members. Panel members include Msgr. Henry Gracz, author
Chris Glaser, Amelia Markham from the Reformation Project,
and speakers from the Jewish Sojourners Ministry. How
wonderful to join together to share and dialogue about our
efforts to truly live out God’s call to embrace each person
within our faith communities. All interested persons are
welcome to attend this enlightening discussion of love and

Supporting Scholarships at IHM School
IHM School has a number of opportunities that allow donors to make lasting gifts to IHM. The
school has four named endowment funds in addition to the IHM School Endowment Fund. We
welcome gifts to each of the funds listed below. A gift of $25,000 or more establishes a named
endowment fund.
Goizueta Foundation Scholarship
Endowed in 2002 with a gift from the Goizueta Foundation, three scholarships are awarded annually
to Hispanic students at IHM School.
Memorial Scholarship Fund
This Fund was established in 2012 to allow families a special way to memorialize loved ones. It is a
pool of funds from various donors given in memory of a deceased individual. Collective or individual
gifts of $1,000 or more given in memory of someone are recognized with the deceased's name on a
plaque in the school, offering a permanent reminder of their lives. This fund is not yet endowed and
we encourage donors to consider gifts to this fund when honoring loved ones who have passed.
Edward Barnsley ‘86 Memorial Scholarship
Endowed in 2013, the Edward Barnsley ’86 Memorial Scholarship was created to
honor the life of Diane Barnsley’s son, Edward (pictured at left), who graduated
from IHM School in 1986 and passed away in 1991 following a tragic accident.
Thanks to Ms. Barnsley’s generosity, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually
to a rising eighth grader who exhibits an aptitude for and an interest in creative
writing.
Vivian Adan Eager Reader Scholarship Fund
Vivian Adan was IHM School’s beloved Librarian from 1980-1997. Mrs. Adan
passed away suddenly during pre-planning week in 1997 and her loss was
deeply felt by the community. In 2014 Vivian’s daughters, Vivian Adan Lowe
‘90 and Alicia Adan Harwell ‘92, established the Vivian Adan Eager Reader
Scholarship in memory of their mother. Once giving to the fund reaches
$25,000, a scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates a love
for reading.

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further
reflect on the Sunday readings:
 In today's Gospel, Jesus breathes new life into the
disciples. Find the Risen Christ in the world around you.
Go for a short walk every day this week. Have family
members take note of everything that breathes.
 Jesus asks us to forgive others. How do you practice
forgiveness in your family? Is there anyone you need to
forgive?
 Read a story about someone who was a witness to Jesus.
You may want to find a book of stories about the saints.
Check your parish library or a religious bookstore.
 Jesus gave his followers the gift of his peace and the Holy
Spirit. Together with your family, draw pictures that
illustrate how people can share Jesus’ gift of peace.

esta semana. Pida a los miembros de la familia que
tomen nota de todo lo que respira.
 Jesús nos pide que perdonemos a los demás. ¿De qué

Reflexión sobre el Evangelio: 2° Domingo de Pascua
Niños menores de 7 años,
Evangelio Juan 20, 19-31: A l anochecer del día de la resurrección, estando cerradas las
puertas de la casa donde se hallaban los discípulos, por miedo a los judíos, se presentó
Jesús en medio de ellos y les dijo: “La paz esté con ustedes”. Dicho esto, les mostró las
manos y el costado. Cuando los discípulos vieron al Señor, se llenaron de alegría. De nuevo
les dijo Jesús: “La paz esté con ustedes. Como el Padre me ha enviado, así también los
envío yo”. Después de decir esto, sopló sobre ellos y les dijo: “Reciban el Espíritu Santo. A
los que les perdonen los pecados, les quedarán perdonados; y a los que no se los perdonen,
les quedarán sin perdonar”. Tomás, uno de los Doce, a quien llamaban el Gemelo, no
estaba con ellos cuando vino Jesús, y los otros discípulos le decían: “Hemos visto al
Señor”. Pero él les contestó: “Si no veo en sus manos la señal de los clavos y si no meto mi
dedo en los agujeros de los clavos y no meto mi mano en su costado, no creeré”. Ocho días
después, estaban reunidos los discípulos a puerta cerrada y Tomás estaba con ellos. Jesús
se presentó de nuevo en medio de ellos y les dijo: “La paz esté con ustedes”. Luego le dijo a
Tomás: “Aquí están mis manos; acerca tu dedo. Trae acá tu mano, métela en mi costado y
no sigas dudando, sino cree”. Tomás le respondió: “¡Señor mío y Dios mío!” Jesús añadió:
“Tú crees porque me has visto; dichosos los que creen sin haber visto”. Otros muchos
signos hizo Jesús en presencia de sus discípulos, pero no están escritos en este libro. Se
escribieron éstas para que ustedes crean que Jesús es el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios, y para
que, creyendo, tengan vida en su nombre.

SEGUNDO DOMINGO DE PASCUA
Oración introductoria: Señor mío y Dios mío. Ten compasión de mí por que, como
Tomás, hay ocasiones en que dudo de mi fe. En este domingo que me invitas a contemplar
tu inmensa misericordia, que me muestras tu costado y tus llagas, y me invitas a
experimentar tu cercanía por medio de la oración. Jesús, sana mi incredulidad y dame la fe
para saber apreciar siempre tu Divina Misericordia.
Reflexión: Siempr e debemos mir ar hacia aquella pr imer a comunidad cr istiana.
Seguramente, al igual que la nuestra, no era perfecta, pero supieron aceptar y compartir su fe
con personas de distintas culturas, enriqueciéndose mutuamente. Jesús murió y ellos cayeron
en la apatía, el abatimiento, también a nosotros nos sigue pasando hoy porque seguimos sin
creer que Cristo Vive. El evangelio de hoy tiene una fuerza impactante. El evangelista no
explica como entra Jesús en la habitación, pero es el protagonista de la acción, lo pone en el
centro y Él saluda a todos con el saludo: «Paz a vosotros». En este momento la iglesia
resurge con fuerza, la fuerza que da descubrir que Cristo no está muerto. La resurrección es
energía, revitalización, para dejar atrás el miedo y la sinrazón, es el pilar donde todo
cristiano debe poner su fe porque a partir de este momento todos vivimos con Él. Otra idea
que nos deja el evangelista es que la fe hay que vivirla en comunidad, fijémonos en Tomás.
Tiene fe, pero prescinde del grupo, quizás por ello le cueste creer que Cristo ha resucitado.
La comunidad es pilar fundamental para compartir y vivir la fe. Cuando Jesús vuelve a
aparecer Tomás está con la comunidad. Jesús le invita a tocarle, no lo echa ni le regaña por
no creer, Tomás lo toca y a partir de ese momento cree. Ya no vive en la oscuridad, ha
descubierto que la resurrección es verdad y a partir de ese momento se compromete a
celebrar la fe y practicar la Palabra de Dios. Todos tenemos dudas e interrogantes y eso es
bueno, es un indicador de que no tenemos una fe rutinaria, sino que tenemos el deseo de
crecer en la fe, de crecer en el amor y la confianza en el Maestro. Tener dudas nos motiva
para buscar la verdad. Nuestra fe crece cuando nos sentimos amados, cuando conocemos en
profundidad que Cristo es el Hijo de Dios que habita entre nosotros.
Diálogo con Cristo: J esús, también en la victor ia tenemos que ser humildes, sencillos y
discretos como Tú. Ése será un gran testimonio de nuestra fe ante todo el mundo, como lo
fue en los primeros siglos de la Iglesia. Celebrare hoy con alegría la Divina Misericordia,
aprendiendo de Ti a ser misericordioso con los demás.

CONGRESO EUCARISTICO 2015
APUNTEN LA FECHA—5 y 6 de junio
El Congreso Eucarístico es la gran celebración anual donde se reúne toda la
comunidad de católicos de la Arquidiócesis de Atlanta de toda raza, cultura e
idioma en compañía de nuestros pastores: el Arzobispo Wilton Gregory, el
Obispo Auxiliar Luis Zarama, el Obispo Auxiliar David Talley, nuestros
sacerdotes, diáconos, religiosos y religiosas, seminaristas, movimientos y
grupos, para adorar y dar gracias al Señor Jesucristo, presente en la
Eucaristía. En la sesión en español, con capacidad para unas seis mil
personas, tendremos presentaciones con invitados especiales que nos
ayudarán a profundizar nuestro conocimiento de la presencia divina de Cristo.
Alabaremos al Señor a través de la música, tendremos tiempo para la oración
y finalizaremos la tarde con la Santa Misa.
Habrá una sesión aparte sólo para niños de 5 a 11 años de edad el sábado, 6
