Purpose of this folder
This folder is intended to help exchange students consult the proper Study advisor
(Swedish: studievägledare) while they study or wish to study courses at departments belonging to the Faculties of Humanities and Theology at Lund University.
There is a Study Advisor for each discipline or department. Their roll towards
exchange students is to advise on the course or subject that you are studying or
wishing to study or questions related to it. You must refer to your own coordinator for other non-academic questions.
Every exchange student has a personal coordinator (Swedish: koordinator) based
in a department, faculty, or international office. Usually this person is the same
person that signed your Letter of Acceptance in order for you to be admitted to
Lund University. Sometimes the coordinators have one or more assistants with
whom you are more frequently in touch.
You may request courses only through your coordinator who will contact the
Study advisors (by e-mail or phone) for a course placement, and if necessary, set
up an appointment for you or instruct you to make the appointment yourself.
Departments are not allowed to admit exchange students without the coordinators’ consent
Admissions to the SAS-courses do not require any pre-requisite other than
one year of academic studies and it is a simple procedure for your coordinator to
forward your request to the course administrator. There might be however other
courses at our faculties that you wish to study. For some of them you need to meet
special pre-requisites. Only the Study advisor for that particular discipline may be
able to assess if you meet the necessary requirements. Often this means that you
must produce certificates proving that you have studied courses with relevant contents [knowledge] that will provide you with a foundation for the desired course.
In certain cases you will be referred to the teacher for an evaluation.
Please visit a Study advisor only after your coordinator has previously contacted
him or her explaining the need for it. Naturally you may seek up the Study advisor
on your own accord if you are already admitted or are studying a course to discuss
questions related to it (except for schedules and descriptions which should be obtained from the Internet). Please remember that the teacher of the course can also
give you advice on his/her own course.
