The capstone event is the Ag Leadership Forum, a town hall-style meeting featuring professional, educational and student leaders in the agriculture community. Open to the general public, the forum is an interactive and enlightening look into what agriculture means to each of us. The day’s activities include a career and education fair, seminars and electronic scavenger hunts. New this year, 4-H, FFA and Jr. Rodeo Committee members are participating in a Video Challenge, creating short videos that answer the question, “Ambassadors for Agriculture: What Does Agriculture Mean to My Community?”. The winning videos will be on display in Reliant Center and showcased at the Forum. Come see the creative messages delivered by the youth of Texas! ARMED FORCES APPRECIATION DAY — March 2 Armed Forces Appreciation Day honors brave men and women for their service in the U. S. Armed Forces. Military personnel, veterans, families, friends, and the public are encouraged to come out, dress in red, white, and blue, and show their appreciation for the troops, past and present, and their selfless dedication and service to the United States. There is free Reliant Park admission for service men and women in uniform or with a military ID on Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Capital One Bank AGventure — March 1 – 20 sponsored by Visit Capital One Bank AGventure, located in Hall A of Reliant Center, to learn about agriculture and how it affects you every day. It’s a great place for children and adults alike. Nearly every species of livestock — beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, sheep, poultry, swine, and rabbits — can be found inside this fun and educational area, with several live animal exhibits. (Exhibits are free with a Reliant Park admission ticket, unless otherwise noted.) Birthing Center Experience the miracle of life right before your eyes in the Birthing Center, featuring newborns from various species of livestock. Stop by to visit the newborns, watch as they take their first steps, see how their mothers nurture them, and witness how they react to the world. Breed Row Barn Breed Row Barn showcases different breeds of swine, cattle, sheep, and goats, with the opportunity to get a close-up view of all the animals! 48 EVENTS AND ATTRACTIONS Cotton Gin Did you know Texas leads the nation in cotton production? Cotton is an essential product used in most of the clothes we wear. Learn this and more near the spinning and weaving demonstrations. Honey Bees Honey bees produce an essential ingredient in much of the food we eat. Watch these busy bees work to make honey in their hives, which are encased in protective plastic. Horticulture Exhibit New this year, take an underground journey in the Horticulture Exhibit! Learn about the importance of soil composition, insects and worms, water, and vegetation in urban and rural agriculture. Get hands-on with live earthworms and learn how to construct your own composting bin. Plant a seed, take it home and watch it grow! Milking Parlor sponsored by At the Milking Parlor, visitors have the chance to see how a cow is milked and how milk gets from the cow to your local grocery store. Petting Zoo The petting zoos include nearly every animal you can think of — from the most exotic to the typical farm animal. Grab a handful of tasty treats and see which animals are hungry. Hand-sanitizing stations are located just outside the petting zoo. Another petting zoo is located outside in Kids Country. Pony Rides Pony rides are perfect for each little cowboy and cowgirl. Beautiful Welsh ponies walk carousel-style for their young riders. Each ride is $6 per child, and photos also are available for purchase. Poultry The poultry exhibit includes everything from adult turkeys and chickens to chicks and live incubating eggs. Come see baby chicks hatch! Rabbits Feel the soft fur of one of the many breeds of rabbits showcased in the rabbit display area. Along with the many rabbit breeds, see the cavies, which are similar to hamsters. Spinning and Weaving Stop by for a lesson in spinning cotton and other products into clothes, blankets and much more. 49 EVENTS AND ATTRACTIONS BLACK HERITAGE DAY — March 4 sponsored by Check out the cultural festivities, vendors, exhibits and more on this special day.
