February 2011 - Lake County Pistoleros
SWAMPWATER GAZETTE Lake County Pistoleros Deadwood Woody Match Director February 2011 brought us great weather for our second shoot of the year and we can only hope that it is a prelude for the Ides of March. We had 69 shooters make their way to Swampwater and we welcomed two new shooters, Sunhawk and Poinciana Pete one of our clean shooters. I failed to recognize these two “pards” at the shooter’s meeting but I’m confident that their posse made them feel at home and hope they find their way back. From the reports I received, most had a good time. Eleven had a better time than I did and shot clean. It looks like I needed to put an abacus on stage 2 or get Trigger to scratch his hoof in the sand. Arcadia had told me it would be better to give you cowboys the option to shoot the targets in any order, that way you didn’t have to count to eight. Guess some of you agree with Arcadia. A quick count looks like half of the procedurals were on that stage. Maybe next time we’ll only count to six. Well the stages are written and most of the props are ready for next month and it looks like it will be a “Hoot of a Shoot”. Prepare to help Roy and Chon save the Princess Pei Pei. I’ll leave it at that for now. Until next time, be careful out there. Last year we had 19 cowboys show up all decked out in our cowboy duds, sporting our cowboy shotguns. It was funny when they asked a 97 shooter if he wanted the bird on report or as a double as was intended. They only asked once. We put on quite a showing and the shotgunners were impressed. Never shot sporting clays, well neither had most of us out there, But you have shot a shotgun and if you can do that, you can shoot sporting clays. COWBOY SOCIAL Stay tuned for more information – But set aside April 17th, 2011. We will locate a restaurant that can accommodate us. If you have any suggestions, please contact me at [email protected]. Ides of March MARCH 18 - 20, 2011 Join us as Chon Wang, a clumsy Imperial Guard to the Emperor of China attempts to rescue Princess Pei Pei after she is kidnapped from the Forbidden City. Wang feels personally responsible and insists on joining the guards sent to rescue the Princess, who has been whisked away to the United States. In Nevada and hot on the trail of the kidnappers, Wang is separated from the group and soon finds himself an unlikely partner with Roy O'Bannon, a small time robber with delusions of grandeur. Together, the two forge onto one misadventure after another. We have received over 185 applications to date. Make sure you get your application in so that you don’t miss out on the fun. We still have openings for a few of you late comers. Please call or email us to let us know to expect your application. Once you shoot a Wild Bunch Match, you might have answered your own question. For most of us it is a new challenge… new gun, new rules, more dynamic are just a few of the differences. Rules: There are some rules in WB that are not used in SASS – one of those is being able to stoke your 97 shotgun with the shotgun round count up to 6 on stage. Another major difference is shotgun knockdowns are NOT re-engaged till down. So every shot must count. Want to try – come on out to our Sunday Intro classes and try shooting a 1911. For the ladies and kids, we have a 9mm 1911 for you to get your feet wet if you don’t want to try the .45acp. We are very proud of him and appreciate all of the support from all of our family and friends and especially our cowboy shooting friends. Steven’s Eagle Scout project was an outdoor patio that he raised funds for and then built with the help of other scouts and volunteers at his high school. This project earned him student volunteer of the year and is a very nice improvement at his high school Sarasota Military Academy. He is currently enrolled at State College of Florida and hopes to attend Veterinary school later for advanced studies. The link is on the home page to Lake County Pistoleros The Cowford Regulators Stampede is back!! Where did it go you ask, well -----Up to 2009 The Cowford Regulators Stampede was always in November and the SASS Cowboys were use to findin’ it there. Then in 2010 The Southeast Regional moved to November which created a somethin’ of a Mexican Standoff. Just as with other clubs many of our members wished to shoot the regional so we moved our Stampede to the 3rd weekend in April. (April 15-17, 2011). When a store moves locations it takes a while for their customers to find them again and so it is with our annual. Some cowboys even thought we gave up havin’ a yearly match at all…Not So. This year we are visiting the 1966 film “The Professionals”. Come ride along with Burt Lancaster and Lee Marvin as they rescue Claudia Cardinale from the evil Jack Palance. 2 days, 10 stages and the world famous “Ore Cart” will be shot twice. Just follow the link to the application and other important stuff. There’s still plenty of time to get it in, iffin you don’t doddle. http://cowfordregulators.com/Cowford%20Stampede.htm Lookin’ to see all of ya this year. Thank ya kindly, The Cowford Posse.
