PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Spring has sprung, finally. After a solid week of rain and gloomy weather the sun
has returned and the temperatures have risen. Time to get serious and take
those Vettes out on the road. I hear more and more members saying that
Corvettes are meant to be driven. There was a time when that was definitely
true. My first Corvette, a 1968 Roadster, purchased in March of 1970 while I was
still in the service, was my daily driver. That vehicle made numerous trips back
and forth from East Haven to Jacksonville, NC, home of Camp Lejeune.
A great story - The Commanding Officer of my unit used to leave base every
Friday about 3:00 p.m. for the week-end. I would get in the Vette and park in his
space. One Friday after moving my car I went back to my work station and
finished the day with a run, as was customary. On this particular Friday, as I
neared the barracks I saw that the Colonel had returned and his station wagon
was parked directly behind the Vette, bumpers nearly touching. Needless to say,
I was summoned to “The Man’s” office. It went pretty much like this:
“Corporal Stacey reporting as ordered sir.”
“Who the hell do you think you are Corporal, parking in my space?”
Without skipping a beat I replied, “Sir, the Corporal just thought that the Colonel
might like to have the Corvette for the weekend and take his lady for a drive.”
To the dismay of a certain Captain, who had really didn’t have a good relationship
with me and who was waiting for me to be dressed down, the Colonel smiled and
said, “You’re quick. Thank-you. I’ll take you up on that offer.”
Needless to say, I stayed on base that weekend, not wanting to take a chance
and damage the Colonel’s “lovely” station wagon. The Colonel returned on
Monday and handed me my keys with a huge grin on his face. After that I
waited until after 5:00 to move my car but I know I made one tough Marine’s
week-end something he’d remember. So get out and drive those fabulous
machines. Semper-Fi!
Tomorrow I’m taking 40 students to the Museum at Bethel Woods, NY. The
Museum sits on the grounds of the 1969 musical festival known forever as
Woodstock. The Club visited there a couple of years ago. The museum not only
commemorates the musical event but the entire decade of the 60’s. I’m hoping
to have another groovy time, far out man!
Peace,
Jack Stacey

MEETING MINUTES – May 3, 2016
The meeting of Club Corvette of CT (CCC) was called to order by President Jack Stacey
at 7:02 PM at Barratta's Restaurant. An estimated 80 members attended. The Pledge of
Allegiance was said by all.
Four new members were introduced. Welcome to Ron, Gary, Lola and Carmine. Stan
has the machine available to make name badges. Please see him after the meeting.
Jack asked for a motion to accept the Minutes of the April meeting. A motion was made,
seconded, and voted in favor.
Rick Wasserback presented the Treasurer’s report. The Club is in good financial shape.
As of April 30 there were 198 paid memberships and a total of 344 members. The Club
has recorded 247 Corvettes. Expenses slightly exceed income primarily due to
payment for tax preparation and items for the upcoming Club picnic.
Jack then summarized recent correspondence. There were “thank you” notes from Pat
McPherson and Lucy Kreho.
Under “old business,” Sandy Hague spoke of the April 10 dinner at the Viron Rondo
Osteria in Cheshire. She stated that all appeared to have an “awesome time.” She will
work on another dinner hoping to get close to 100 folks to attend.
Jeff Petriccione said that attendance at the Wednesday Heavenly Donut cruises has
ranged from 22 to 14 cars. The weather has not been overly cooperative.
George Sipprell discussed the 2017 Corvette new colors and retired colors. He also
advised the group to check with the National Corvette Museum (NCM) for Corvette
insurance. He said it is quite often more reasonable than other classic car insurers. The
NCM will also be having a “Museum in Motion” exhibit at the Milford, MI, proving
grounds.
Ed Karedes said that everything for the car show has been ordered. Since the weather
was bad tonight, the first judging classes will be at the car cleaning clinic on May 7 and
then at the June meeting. He urged all to consider becoming judges. He said we also
need to increase the effort for ads for the ad book and we need raffle table gifts for the
show.
Mary Grizkewicz said all is good for the Club picnic on June 12. There will be door prizes
as well as a drawing for the picture signed by living members of the Corvette Museum
Hall of Fame (supplied by George Sipprell). Mary reminded the Club that the picnic is
free to each member and 1 guest.
Roy Master thanked folks for the pictures and articles he received from the various
activities. Please continue sending news items and articles. He also has Club Corvette
patches for sale. The cost is $3.00 each.
Mike Dansereau asked the new members to see him to get access to the Club's
Facebook and Yahoo sites.
Rich Forristall said that he has sweatshirts available. We may need them, considering
the weather.
Jack said that Pat and Ernie Macolino are new grandparents. They were given a round of
applause.
Dennis spoke of the upcoming Corvettes at Carlisle. He said, “It is the Lake Sturgis for
Corvettes.” He will lead a group caravan to Carlisle on Thursday and Bob Wadyka will
lead a group on Friday. Anyone who doesn't have a room is encouraged to obtain one
ASAP. They may be hard to come by in Carlisle but there are some in towns in the
surrounding area. He spoke of the parade at Carlisle and the Women’s Oasis provided
on the activity grounds right near our tent.
Jack told the group that CCC will be the sponsor of the Corvette Corral at Lime Rock for
July 22 and 23 races. The Corvette racing team will be competing. The Club donated
$1,000 to be the sponsor but all other Corral expenses are being borne by the Chevy
Enthusiast Group. Admission for the VIP is $60 on Friday and $65 on Saturday. That
includes guest speakers, raffle prizes, food and soft drinks. Veterans with DD 214 are
currently free for entry to the track, but not for the VIP Corral.
Kurt spoke of the group’s invitation to join the CT Corvette Military Club on a cruise to
the Manheim auction in Newberg, NY, on May 18. If interested, contact him. There are
a couple of slots open.
Joyce Baiardi asked the members to provide items and gift baskets for the show raffle
table. A list of suggestions is on the table up front. See her with any questions.
Jack mentioned that the East Haven Shop-Rite is having a food drive in June. More
information will follow.
In upcoming events, Les talked about the Car Cleaning Clinic on May 7. It is a rain or
shine event at the home of George Macary. Refreshments will be served.
Kurt then spoke about an upcoming cruise on May 15 called “Last Green Valley Cruise.”
A flyer is on the table. It will be about 3 1/2 hours ending in Willimantic CT. The
Newport, RI, Museum in Motion is coming up the following week, starting May 18, for
four days.
Dennis invited all to participate in the“CT Vettes to Vets” cruise to the Rocky Hill
Veterans Home on June 4. Meet at the Middletown rest stop just north of exit 19 on I-91
at 8 AM. Please bring a goodie bag of non-perishable items for veterans, such as
toiletries, blankets, board games etc. A flyer and list is on the front table.
Per Mike Dansereau, there is a wine tasting cruise coming up on June 11. A flyer is on
the table.
Anthony Delano has an upcoming show at his place of business, 312 East Johnson
Avenue, in Cheshire, on May 15. For admission, please bring non-perishable goods for
the Cheshire Food Bank. Additionally, all proceeds from the food sales at the show will
go to the Cheshire Food Bank.
Jack is working on having a Thimble Islands cruise and boat ride in July. More will follow
later.
George Sipprell donated 2 NCM raffle tickets for a new Corvette. The tickets will be
raffled off tonight with the 50/50.
The 50/50 raffle and NCM ticket raffle was held. The meeting adjourned at 8:14 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Truitt

VIRON RONDO OSTERIA - By Sandy Hague
The Viron Rondo Osteria served a home-style Italian buffet to 36 Club Corvette
members, featuring appetizers, salads, pastas, chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan,
and tiramisu. Everyone enjoyed the food and camaraderie – AND left stuffed.
Trays of leftovers were delivered to the Saint Vincent DePaul shelter in Waterbury.
SPRING CARLISLE - By Rick Wasserback
April showers not only bring May flowers, they bring out thousands of car enthusiasts to
Carlisle, Pa. An estimated 100,000 attendees and 2,400 vendors were anticipated to
visit the Carlisle Fairgrounds for the 40th Spring Carlisle.
Unlike Corvettes at Carlisle, the only cars allowed inside the gates of the fairgrounds are
those for sale. All parking is off-site, most likely on someone’s front lawn, for $10 a day.
This year the 1959 Ford dominated, but there were many other models, all in various
stages of destruction or reconstruction. Two of my favorites in the show were a 1964
red Falcon Sprint convertible with a 260 V8 engine and factory 4 speed and a 1967
Comet Cyclone with a 390 engine and 4 speed. (The reason for my bias is that we had
one of each in our family.) There was even an early 1900’s Hupmobile on the Midway.
The original cost for this 171 horsepower automobile was $750. Hupmobiles were built
in Detroit, Michigan from 1909 through 1940.
This is the fourth year that Steve, Ed, and I vistied the first annual car show at Carlisle.
Just like excited little kids, when we get home we can’t wait to get the Corvettes out of
winter storage, dust them off, and start a new season of doing what we enjoy most.
Here are some samples of
the cars for sale.
CAR CLEANING CLINIC AND JUDGING CLASS - By Roy Master
It was raining on Saturday, May 7, as I was driving north
on Rt. 95 headed for George Macary’s garage. I couldn’t
believe my eyes when I saw this license plate on a
Corvette in front of me. Could it be that Susan Wadyka
actually took her Corvette out in the rain?
Surprisingly, there were about 8 other Corvettes parked
in front of George’s house, along with daily drivers. A
total of 26 members showed up for this event, despite
the weather.
Russ Grim demonstrated the use of a
buffer to get a high gloss, smooth finish.
Steve Ludwig gave us tips on cleaning
under the hood and under the chassis. His
engine compartment is spotless, as is the
rest of his Vette. And this car gets
trophies at shows but is also used for drag
racing!
Dennis Krajewsky gave a step-by-step talk about what to expect as a judge at our
July CCC show. The concepts he described also prepared the group for detailing their
Vettes for display in other shows.
Susan Wadyka discussed her tools and formulas that she uses for preparing her car for
a show. She had a full table of polishes, brushes, cleaners, etc., and she explained the
specifics about using each of them. She has been detailing her cars and winning
trophies for years.
Thank you to Susan, Steve, Russ, and Dennis for your helpful demonstrations.
And thank you George for letting us use your garage and your home.

ELECTION OF CLUB OFFICERS FOR 2017
Before you know it, October will be here and we will be compiling a slate of officers
to serve our Club for 2017. We will have at least 3 openings on our Board of Directors
at the end of this year as the current officers will have reached their maximum of
serving 3 terms. We need talented and dedicated Corvette enthusiasts to become part
of our Executive Board. Let us use your talents and ideas to help us to continue to help
others who are less fortunate than ourselves and have fun doing it.
Detailed below are the offices and a brief description of the duties of each office that we
will need to fill in 2017. For a full description of each office, please refer to our bylaws.
Our Executive Board meets on the last Tuesday of every month.
Vice President – Club Operations is responsible for coordinating activities and
assisting the chairpersons with the car show, NCM activities, Club clothing, and other
duties as designated by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications – You must be a member in good standing and have been a member of
Club Corvette for at least 3 consecutive years. Prior Board of Director’s experience is
NOT necessary.
Directors at Large – 2 openings - Act as a liaison between the membership and the
Board of Directors on any concerns the members may have as well as interests or
suggestions that are made. These officers are the voice of the members. Other
responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary by the President.
Qualifications - You must be a member in good standing and have been a member of
Club Corvette for at least 2 consecutive years. Prior Board of Director’s experience is
NOT necessary.
Serving on the Board of Directors for Club Corvette is very fulfilling. Together we strive
to meet the expectations of our members so that being a member of Club Corvette is
both fun and rewarding, yet we must always remain financially sound so that we can
continue the good work that we do for others.
“Alone
we can do so little; together we can do so much.” -Helen Keller

Chevrolet Debuts New Corvettes Colors
What better way to kick off Corvette event season at the National
Corvette Museum than by debuting the four new 2017 Corvette colors? The last weekend of April
each year marks our annual Michelin NCM Bash, and this year participants were the FIRST to see all
four new Corvette colors: Admiral Blue, Black Rose Metallic, Sterling Blue and Watkins Glen Gray
Metallic. Samples of each color car were on display and attendees got to "try them on for size."
If you missed out, we have a few photos on our website, as well as the 2017 Corvette ordering guide.
2017 Grand Sport Pricing Announced
Chevrolet announced today the track-bred 2017 Corvette Grand
Sport will be priced at $66,445 for coupe models and $70,445 for convertibles, when they go on sale
this summer. The prices include the destination charge, but not tax, title and other dealer fees.
With heritage-inspired design cues combined with track-focused chassis and suspension elements,
the new Grand Sport builds on a legacy established in 1963, when five Grand Sport race cars were
built under the direction of the Corvette’s first chief engineer, Zora Arkus-Duntov.

10 Best Automotive Museums
Auto Trader Canada has posted their picks for the 10 Best Automotive
Museums in the world.
Making the cut is the National Corvette Museum:
"The Corvette Museum made headlines for the massive sinkhole that emerged right in the museum
floor, threatening to swallow up some valuable cars. It could have been a disaster for the museum,
but the resulting publicity was actually good news.
Of the wrecked Vettes recovered from the rubble, some have been restored, some preserved, and
some lost. It makes for a great story, and there’s plenty to tell about America’s supercar."
