Reception of First Sacraments
Our Brooklyn Diocese requires that children and teens preparing for the reception of Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation attend Religious Education classes for at least two years.
They also participate in an immediate prep program which will
begin shortly.
Children attending Catholic Schools: must participate in our
parish immediate prep programs to receive sacraments here in
the Spring. Please call Sr. Ellen at ext. 14 as soon as possible.
Music at St. Augustine…
TODAY, FEBRUARY 9th - 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Special Presentation on Hildegard of Bingen. This will include her music
and her writings.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23 - St Augustine Church is pleased
to announce that Voxplux, an internationally known music
group, will be giving a concert at the church, Sunday, February
23 at 3 o'clock. Vox n Plux combines guitarists William
Anderson and Oren Fader with noted soprano Elizabeth Farnum. Though newly established, Anderson and Fader have
been performing and recording with Ms. Farnum for 2 decades, as members of the two-guitar based Cygnus Ensemble.
They will perform a concert of Monteverdi, Brahms and Mozart, plus modern works by Frank Brickle, Robert Pollock and
Andrew Violette, along with VoxNPlux arrangements of folk
songs and jazz standards. Something for everyone.
Ms. Farnum is also a prolific studio artist, and has been
featured on over 30 recordings, four of which were nominated
for Grammy awards. She is one of today’s most highly soughtafter vocalists in the field of modern music. Widely known for
her high level of musicianship, versatility and range, she has
presented modern works in venues such as Lincoln Center,
Alice Tully Hall and the American Academy at Rome.
Mr. Anderson and Mr. Fader have performed with James
Levine and the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Players at Zankel
Hall and were in residence at the Library of Congress in the
winter of 2012. Ongoing residencies at the CUNY Graduate
Center and Sarah Lawrence College give the Duo an opportunity to work with young composers.
Bereavement Group for Adults
The death of a loved one is a very difficult period in one’s life.
The grief process is a painful journey that changes our lives
forever. Grief is a natural response to loss and in order for
grief resolution to be attained we must work through our loss.

Hi all,
As you may know, I’m the Communications Coordinator
for St. Augustine and St. Francis Xavier parishes. Over the
past few months, I’ve been working with Father Tom and
Sister Helene to help spread the word about our parishes
through our websites, social media and traditional media
(local blogs, papers, etc).
I would really like to ramp up publicizing the missions and
events of our groups and ministries. Could you please put
together a calendar of upcoming events for the year? It
doesn't have to be complete yet, but I’d love to see what’s
coming in the spring and summer at least. And, as events
pop up, please send us the information as soon as possible.
Groups associated with St. Augustine can send the info to
Nilsa Pena and groups associated with St. Francis Xavier
can send the info to Sr. Helene. Please do not contact Ms
Hill-Ries directly. A 2-3 week lead time would be ideal for
getting the word out.

offer a five day Pre-Kindergarten program (3 years old by December 31st, 2014), as well as classes for Pre-K4 through Grade 8. Parents have the option of enrolling a child

vida. El proceso de duelo es un camino doloroso que cambia

la pérdida y en orden de obtener la resolución de pena debemos

LUZ DEL MUNDO
Si no podemos dar testimonio concreto del amor de Cristo
en nuestras vidas, entonces, sin duda, somos sal que se ha
vuelto desabrida. Nuestro sabor y nuestra influencia se han
perdido. Qué difícil es recuperarlos de nuevo.
A fines de la década de 1940 el movimiento cristóforo empezó en Estados Unidos. El lema de los cristóforos: “Es mejor encender una vela que maldecir la oscuridad”, atrajo a
muchos a través del uso eficaz de los medios de comunicación, los anuncios y la inspiración de sus miembros para proclamar a Cristo en el lugar de trabajo.
Jesús nos llama a ser esa vela y a ponerla en el lugar más
visible. Jesús, que trajo la vida eterna al mundo, nos dice
que nosotros también somos la luz del mundo. Mediante
nuestro mundo y nuestras acciones tenemos que dejar que
nuestra luz brille ante todos para que al ver nuestras buenas
obras, todos puedan glorificar a Dios.
