Church Page 3 Mid-Morning Prayer ("Terce")… Sunday mornings at 10:15 AM in the Tower Library Room; doors open at 10:00 AM. Entire service lasts about 15 minutes and is chanted in Latin (booklets with translations are provided). ALL ARE WELCOME to join in this uplifting act of prayerful worship. Singing the Readings at Mass -- Chant Toolbox Workshop Series II… Learn the time-honored practice of chanting/intoning the Readings for Mass – a technique that's equally as beautiful in the vernacular as it is in Latin. Three sessions on Tuesday evenings, February 3rd, 10th, and 17th, from 7:15 PM to 8:45 p.m. in the Rectory. Lectors and Schola members are especially invited; but ALL ARE WELCOME. (Speak to Gail the cantor after Mass; or email her at [email protected]). The Key Message… in Sunday’s readings is “Repent.” This is a message for all times and all peoples. One of the greatest evils repeated throughout human history and demanding repentance is genocide, and one of the worst examples of genocide was the Jewish holocaust during WWII. Amazingly, however, the holocaust also gave us some of the greatest lessons of human endurance, faith, hope, and love. On Sunday, February 8th, Pax Christi Metro New York is hosting Etty, a one-woman play about Etty Hillesum, one of the holocaust’s greatest messengers of those lessons. Etty was a young Dutch Jewish woman living in Amsterdam during World War II who wrote prolifically about her loves, her work, her deep faith, and her moment in history. In the process, she challenges us to rethink questions of resistance and humanity and to consider our won responsibility in today’s world of fear and struggle. Susan Stein will perform and lead a discussion in St. Joseph’s church, Sixth Avenue between Washington Place and Waverly Place in Greenwich Village, starting a 2:30 p.m. Reserve your space now by contacting the PCMNY office at [email protected] or 212-420-0250 or by going to www.nycharities.org.
