Leahy Council 1307 Knights of Columbus ** NO BINGO NEXT WEEK…EASTER! ** ~ We will see you April 3rd ~ Lenten Crosses The Knights of Columbus still have some remaining wooden crosses available during Lent. These crosses were made by Christian artisans in Bethlehem, birthplace of Christ. Monies raised through the sales of theses crosses go to assist and support Christian refugees in Syria and Iraq. With your generosity, they are helped with food, clothing, shelter, and medical needs. These crosses would make an ideal Easter present to your child or grandchild. What a perfect way to get across the message of a risen Christ by showing your loved one the empty cross. Ask a Knight after Mass. A suggested donation of $10.00, or whatever you can afford. Palm Sunday March 20, 2016 Holy Week Information Fr. Ben’s Message: I apologize to those that I missed on Wednesday night when I went home early because of my cold and not wanting to share it with you. Identify yourself after Mass so I can make amends. Welcome to Spring. Welcome to Spring break. Welcome to Holy Week. Welcome to the final days of the “Best Lent Ever”. If this week was a TV series, we have the cliff hanger ending and the launch of a new series all in one. It is the week to come to Church, make the effort and you will be glad you did. Today’s gospel is Luke’s account of the passion. As a child, I had just learned about expressive reading and exclamation points. In those days, we didn’t get to say much in church so when my part came, I loudly (full outside recess voice) proclaimed “CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM!). Jesus forgave me but I was never sure about my mother. In her last days she recalled it as one of her most embarrassing moments in Church with her boys. She had a few moments to recall. I am so glad that he rose on Easter and saved us! Fr. Ben CRS Rice Bowls Reminder: We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey as he enters Jerusalem, a community he knew well. As Lent comes to an end, don’t forget to return your bowls by Friday, April 8th to the church or parish office. Thank you! Collections for Holy Week are designated collections: Holy Thursday St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, Good Friday Holy Land annual collection, and Holy Saturday/Easter Parish. Holy Thursday: Bring bells for Gloria. You are invited to participate in the foot washing; we will have 6 stations. A great practice of servanthood, symbolic so only washing one foot. Good Friday: There are 2 options for services. Noon Stations of the Cross in Hammond or the evening service of the Passion reading, Veneration of the Cross, and Communion service. Easter Vigil & Easter: Bring bells for Gloria. For the Easter Vigil, you are encouraged to bring candles in glass containers. Vigil candles work. *Fr. Ben will take a few days off after Easter. The Friars are coming from Milwaukie to spend Easter night at the rectory and to enjoy the coast. Daily mass will resume on Thursday, March 31st at 2:45 pm. Visiting Choir to perform The award winning Jefferson Chamber Choir, from New York, is touring the Northwest. They will be here at St. Mary’s to perform Christian songs on Sunday, April 3rd at 10:00 am, right before the 10:30 am Mass. All are welcome!
